NOTIFICATION SQUAD: 2 videos in 1 weeks! What a madman. It's great to finally be back in Hiroshima for the first time in 6 years since the original chaotic Journey Across Japan. This time with an extra day to spare it was awesome to explore the castle, stay on Miyajima island and absolutely fail at cooking an Okonomiyaki pancake along the way. While the weather was certainly against us and I was disappointed at first, it ultimately ended up giving Miyajima a mysterious, ethereal misty mountain vibe that looked pretty cool. Hope to return again and explore more of Japan's inland sea later this year!

Having lived in Hiroshima city for nearly a decade I would like to share a few things: 1) the city has been through a recent modernization of public spaces (parks, stadiums, train station) so please check out the newest parks and maybe pick up a snack to enjoy by one of the many the rivers. 2 )if given the chance go to Saijo outside of Hiroshima city make sure to explore all of the sake breweries in the town and taste some of the best sake in the country. 3) go to kinkoinari shrine Okumiya to get a good climb in and see the city from an amazing high point. Hiroshima is an amazing place, not because it has history or the latest attractions, but it’s a city that prides itself on being open and friendly. While also giving you the opportunity to never be too far from the stunning surrounding nature.

I’m happy to see these views again. I visited Hiroshima and Miyajima last September 2023. It had been my childhood dream to see where the atomic bomb landed, and I shed tears at the Peace Park. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to check the view deck because I was heading to Miyajima. When I arrived there at sundown, it was almost dark, but I managed to take good photos and videos since most of the tourists had already left. I also visited Nagasaki and Fukuoka. I love Japan, and this was my third visit. Thanks for featuring it.

Nice itinerary! And you hit the nail on the head when you said Hiroshima is inspiring. I dare anyone to stand at the foot of the dome, look around at the lovely modern city, and not be moved at how life perseveres. A few other places I'd suggest hitting while there: climb Mt. Misen on Miyajima Island to get one of the "top three" views in Japan; it really is lovely. Mizutaki Temple is a gorgeous hillside temple on the west side of the city. And if you have more room for okonomiyaki, head to Okonomiyaki-mura for a wealth of choices. And lastly, Shukkeien Garden, which is a short walk from the station. Also, for train enthusiasts, the trams are a fun ride.

Hiroshima and Miyajima was the highlight for my trip last year. Even a sweaty, stormy and misty assailment of Mt Misen was magical. A night on the island is highly reccomended. Then while walking across the open area outside, a group of high school students on a school outing wanted to practice their English with me. It was about ten years ago that I went to Hiroshima and Miyajima, too. We stayed in a ryokan on the island but wow we did not get a view like that all to ourselves. This video brought back a lot of memories. Going to the hiroshima dome and the museum are things I strongly believe everyone should do. Its a sobering and haunting lesson about the dangers of nuclear weapons, but at the same time a powerful symbol of hope and prosperity.

as my senior trip in highschool i decided to travel to japan after taking japanese classes for two years, and one of our destinations was miyajima! it's such a wonderful place, the wild deer trying to eat the empty plastic wrapper of my manju and then having to look crazy trying to take it out of it's mouth really made it an unforgettable experience! 😝10/10!

I just did this last month! I really really recommend staying overnight on the island, its such a fun experience once all the tourists leave and the island is super quiet. The mornings are crazy beautiful too!

Hopefully this was a memorable experience for you at the very least 😎 Truth be told, Japan has many islands that are crazy beautiful in the morning, and many of them are not very crowded at all, even during peak visitor counts. They won't have the same stunning temples and shrines though, so you win some & loose some 😀

I visited Hiroshima 10 years ago and it was a fantastic time. I still get choked up from the memories of the museum/memorial. The eel and sightseeing were second to none

I LOVED Miyajima island and I’m glad we got to see the slide in the tower. There’s a lot of standing up and sitting down on the slide though so it’s a bit of a workout lol.

Chris you absolutely shine best when you're doing these documentary-style location spotlight videos. You've really inspired me to visit all kinds of areas of Japan you don't normally hear about. Much appreciated!

That's exactly what we did. My wife was sick, it was raining, and we had to rush to the Shinkansen to meet with friends. We saw the Dome memorial which was so humbling, and itsukushima shrine. Didn't have time to do anything else :/ Good excuse to go back!

Having done a speed run on Hiroshima back in 2015, this video makes me want to go back and spend a few days to really soak up the area. Spending a night on the island would be great fun and something different.

From street food and obscure hostels in the early videos, to luxurious high life with 5 star ryokan's, oysters and fine dining. I'm glad to see this, but also Chris still being his usual humble self. Not sure about the humble part though. Great mini doc as always.

Hiroshima was my last stop on a 10-day Japan trip right as the pandemic started. After having such a great time there, walking through the memorial and sitting beside the dome just left me in a profound state of sadness. The idea that something could wipe out such a wonderful thing so quickly. I felt such a deep appreciation for everything I had seen along the way as I realized how fragile it all really is. The entire 36 hours I spent there were memorable down to the minute.

I think these kinds of videos are my favorite ones you make. They have such care and effort put into them, and they show a beautiful side of the country that is often glossed over in other videos that try to show too many 'exciting' and 'glamorous' things. Thank you, Chris!

I visited Hiroshima and Miyajima last year after cycling the Shimanami Kaido. Lkek you said, the whole feel of the city is somewhat unique as everything feels modern in terms of the layout and infrastructure. I really enjoyed the city a lot and would consider moving there someday. The Peace Memorial Musuem is harrowing but essential. Nearly shed a tear reading some of the stories.and finally, Miyajima is great fun and I highly recommend staying a night, as to avoid the busy crowds during the day. Great video once again!
