This 2007 Dodge Durango has the ABS warning light illuminated, and a code C1073 stored in memory, indicating a problem with the ABS pump motor control circuit.
So is it a fuse? A relay? Wiring? Connector issues?
GREEN CRUSTIES?
Let's find out!
Enjoy!
Ivan

Your videos are great. I have the same problem same model. Abs light comes and goes. You just made it very simple for me to pin point root cause. Thank you.

My neighbors 2005 durango had its abs module start smoking then catch fire. I went to inspect car after it was put out(lucky for them they were warned and were advised to disconnect battery terminals). Only thing that seemed damaged was a melted abs module. I said it had to be a groundi ng problem. He didnt believe me and proceeded to say somethi mg about not bleeding the brakes a few days prior to incident. But after a lot of research your video pointed me in the right direction thanks man

Had one of these nice distributor style suvs that the person took to a shop for a tune up. Shop does the job but when she goes to leave it won't run right. The shop wouldn't fix it. I was over in the neighborhood visiting a mutual friend and she asked me to look at it. Damn shop had the plug wire screwed up and in the wrong locations. I just pulled all the plug wires off and re ran them to the correct points on the distributor. How hard was it to get the wires on right.

Sometimes it's better just to replace the module and move on where time is of the essence. Handy tip on the ohm meter.
@trainer2018
@trainer2018 7 жыл бұрын
Good Job Ivan. Ohm meter does have it's uses sometimes. When I am suspecting Power or Ground issues that are intermittent I hook up to Power and Ground with the Scope and then hook up a current clamp and then shake harness areas, connectors, and then look at the current. If it goes low I know it's a intermittent open circuit, if it goes hi I know I have excessive current drawing the battery voltage down. Don't know if this process would work good on this vehicle but I thought I would just share that.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, nice to hear from you! Yes, the scope is fantastic at catching intermittent problems for sure. In this case I actually had to disconnect the module completely to prove the problem was internal, and not a pin fit issue at the connector. Ohm meter to the rescue!

Another way this was diagnosed on Bosch ABS modules (car in question was E39) was using compressed air cans turned upside down to supercool the module while monitoring readouts. Cracked solder joints would contract and readings would return to normal.

We just saw your eye at the molecular level on that super-zoom-in there! :D Seems to be the day for ABS lights! I just had a '01 Volvo S80 here that ended up having a bad pump motor. Vehicle overall was in rough shape. On the test drive the passenger front window fell out of the regulator, cocked sideways, then bent the regulator into a pretzel when I hit the button! Nightmare vehicle. I repaired about 3 miles of wiring harness to keep it from shutting down randomly, and becoming a no-start. Parked it while I worked on my own vehicle for a bit, and the blower motor kicks on full blast - key OFF! Thing is possessed. A great candidate for the crusher. :)
@danielkarlsson608
@danielkarlsson608 7 жыл бұрын
Smitty Smithsonite i think the blower motor is supposed to run for a couple minutes after shutoff from time to time. It dries off the condensation from the evaporator to stop bacteria build up and keep the system fresh. I have noticed the blower motor running on several Volvos over the years.

This was probably 45 minutes after I had shut the car off, though. Was running for a LONG time too - don't think it would've shut off unless I turned the key. That car had a long list of gremlins. Looks like the windshield was leaking in a few spots ...

solder cracks can happend because mechanical stress or thermal stress. Being this pin a power feed, probably was working hot and the cycling does the rest. The conector was good enough so it cant deteriorate the new module ?.

Chrysler has had a history of bad ABS modules, and seemed to have never corrected the problem. They cost $600.00 - $700.00 when the car is JUST out of warranty. My 1998 Durango SLT had one. My brother inlaw had one in his Caravan. This is not the only item that Mopar has never corrected on their products (e.g. balljoints, failing power windows, a $3.00 failing ballast resister on 1970's cars, rotting at the firewall on 1960's to 1970's cars, ect.) spanning 40+ years.
@andrewwmacfadyen6958
@andrewwmacfadyen6958 7 жыл бұрын
The failng ballast resistors were also on 1970s Chrysler UK and Chrysler France cars they eventually did fix it when they went to Hall Effect When Chrysler bought out Rootes (Sunbeam) in the UK and Simca in France they ran companies into the ground zero investment.

The brand is Foxelli, less than $20 on Amazon or eBay. Make sure to buy 2 or 3 units so you can cycle them on the charger, as battery life is around 3 hours. They also don't last very long under daily use...maybe 6 months. But hey, beats buying AAA batteries by the truckload!
