I was actually lucky enough to see Knievel live on one of his jumps in Arizona in 1975. I'll never forget the speech he gave from the top of the ramp: "I've stared death in the face tonight ladies and gentlemen, but if you click the link in the description you can stare at one of hundreds of legendary warriors all with unique skins in the fastest growing app on the playstor...

Yup, that's a good son right there! I remember when he did it and was fantastic.A shame that Robbie did get a bit dwarfed by some of the other up and comers around that period,Seth being one.Would have been very cool if he was no1 for at least a bit, he was very competent and i always enjoyed watching his stunts more than the others as he was a better showman, just like his dad was.

"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can." - Hunter S. Thompson

My dad took me to see him for my 7th birthday ....we were at the landing side and could see him as he launched, landed and then bounced like a beachball but still somehow managed to hang on until he crashed and went skidding off towards us with the bike almost chasing him. Even so as he was stretchered off past us all he gave a thumbs up.....legend. A real childhood hero of mine....though I still dunno why? Think it was just his fuck it attitude. Incidentally, saw Eddie Kidd successfully land the same jump in my hometown in 81, but somehow he could never quite capture that same 'cowboy' razzamatazz of the Knievel roadshow imo. there you go, you've taken an old fart through his happy memories....well done, sir. 50 bonus XP and 500 man points. Well done.👍👍✌

“I’ve always felt pity for him. Because of this foolish act, he ruined his career.” ~Saltman, age 76 during a interview. Well Saltman what did you expect? You published a book calling him a drunk, addicted to pills, who abused his family, hated Jews, and was in general an immoral degenerate... amazed you only got away with a busted up arm to be honest. And starting in 2007 he has been attempting to sue Knievel’s family and estate for over 100 million dollars because he was never payed the 12.75 million awarded to him by the trial because Knievel went bankrupt after this whole ordeal... and after years of Knievel himself trying to offer to pay Saltman a smaller settlement and apologize for the incident. None of which Saltman ever accepted. Rot in hell Saltman, 2019 may have been a year full of cringe, but at least it was also the year you finally died.

i was a boy when evel was in his hey day. he was my hero, and the hero to every other american boy alive at that time. he is the reason we all learned to wheelie our bicycles and dirt bikes. he is the reason we all broke bones trying to jump the drainage creek in the local park. he is the reason there is a motorcycle in my garage right now, at 55. if he had ever run for president he would have been elected by a landslide, and would have made history in some epic fashion, be it fail or win. we would have loved him either way, because he embodied the true american spirit at that time. we are a shadow of what we were then. you did a fine job capturing the spirit of a great man, in your brief re telling of his life. thank you for a few minutes i could remember a better time.

I'm old enough to remember growing up seeing Evel on TV. I even had an Evel Keneval matchbox "funny car" as a kid. I saw Bobby's jump on TV too. It was the year I graduated High School. 1989 was one of the most fucking awesome years ever. Soviet Union collapsed, Berlin Wall came down, Bobby Kenevel jumped the fountain, Rain Man won the Golden Globes, Tim Berners-Lee proposed creating The Internet at CERN (Thanks Tim!) Tiananmen Square happened in China (who was asshoe, even then) former President Ronald Reagan was knighted (really!) Ghostbusters II came out that summer, I had awesome "metal head" hair... Damn what an amazing year.
