One funny story they didn't mention was the fact that Wojtek really liked showers. To the point that they had to lock up the shawers because he would break in and waste the water supply. A fortune thing was that one night Wojtek awoke to see the doors to the showers left open, and strolled in, to meet a thief that broke into the camp. The thief was needless to say, in a sudden need to use the showers and a change of pants, and his panicked screeming awoken the soldiers who captured him. Wojtek recieved a reward in form of additional bear rations of course

Honestly it still amazes me that not only was Wojtek intelligent enough to figure out how to pick up and carry the crates of ammo (not to mention figure out where to take it) but he was able to do so without becoming unbalanced and injuring himself.

One thing they forgot is that wojtek did capture a spy once. He loved hot showers and during a fire drill he snuck off into the shower tent where a German man was writing down details of the daily unit activity. The bear then scared the spy out of the tent into anofficer's direct line of sight.

There has to be a ship or something named after that bear. This animal story is better than anything Disney or any other company can dish out, and the fact that this happened, this ACTUALLY HAPPENED, just makes it better.

Yeh, the story goes that he watched as the men were unloading ammo from a truck, one man passing down a crate to a pair of men below to carry to the guns. When all of a sudden he stood up, walked over to the truck, and stuck out his paws to the man unloading the truck.

Interestingly, this is not the only bear that served in the Polish army. During World War II, the Polish army also had a bear named Michał (Michael). Unfortunately, he had to be abandoned because he was too aggressive. During the Polish-Soviet War, a polar bear named Baśka Murmańska also served in the Polish army. If you are interested, there are also videos about her on KZbin. Sorry for any grammatical errors. English is not my native language.

Look him up, there are pictures of Baby Wojtek, sitting like a baby drinking milk and him sitting on an army truck, he also snoozed on the front of a tank. The Stand Up Salute would bring a tear to a glass eye. Let's not forget Wojtek knew how to work the shower and when he wandered in one night he encountered a Nazi Spy. Needless to say there was only one Winner. Wojtek was awarded another shower. So many more stories about The Polish Hero.

You were seen as prey once too?
@BenLWolf Жыл бұрын
I'm incapable of the sensation. I've been around tons of large animals and even large predators and I just don't find them frightening. I fully understand they can kill me. I understand some WANT to kill me. But I see an animal as an animal. To be respected and approached on its terms. This will still probably get me killed.
@supersaiyandiclonius3056 Жыл бұрын
@@BenLWolf no, being in a predator's general vincinity and being seen as prey are two VERY different things. Over ten years ago, I was either 15 or 16, a pack of feral pitbulls wondered out of the woods and thought I looked tasty. I grabbed the heaviest stick I could reach and held them back. They advanced on me, I'd swing the stick while backing up and kept shouting as loud as I could, hoping I was still close enough to the house that someone could hear me. Luckily, my mom's doberman slipped her leash. I can still vividly remember her slamming into the feral alpha like a cannonball. The rest of the pack decided they didn't want the smoke and ran off. We called the pound about it, nothing was done. Two weeks later the same dogs attacked my mom. Kaylee slipped her leash again and saved her life as well...but not before they bit her nose off and tore a chunk out of all four limbs. That's how I know what prey feels like.
@BenLWolf Жыл бұрын
@@supersaiyandiclonius3056 Honestly? I'd have just died. My instinct there is "dogs. remain tall, do not run, back away slowly." They're just not frightening. Probably because I got all my dog issues scared out of me when a Chow tried to bite off my entire hand when I was 3.
