LIKE if this episode made you smile and SHARE if you think all EVs should be this fun! Robert has been banging on about wanting to see more smaller EVs and it looks like he might have got his wish! The Citroen Ami is cute, crazy and fun to drive. It might be very small but it has everything you legally need for a vehicle and its hard not to like it. It might be the oddest first drive Robert has ever done, but he's so taken with this egg box on wheels that he sings the Ami's praises in French! The range is low, the top speed is low and there is literally only room in the back for a couple of baguettes, but we challenge anyone to drive this car and not feel ridiculously happy. In fact, the limited range is probably necessary to curb Robert's 'arse anxiety' from the slightly uncomfortable ride! Fully Charged is 100% independent thanks to KZbin Memberships and Patreons. Yep could not agree with you more. Why the hell they made the twizzy without proper doors is beyond me! I hope Citroen give us a twizzy version of this ami, as in one that can do the speed limit. I live in France and would buy one tomorrow if it could do 90kmh which is the national speed limit here, they missed something I guess. Or its politics stopping them because the car industry would shit a brick if they did make one!
@lesand54844 жыл бұрын
@@tonypower9315 There are multiple reasons why it's limited to 45kmh: - Regulations: with the limit, some EU countries allow this car to be driven from the age of 16, making it a perfect "first car" for children from urban families with enough money - Safety: If it was faster, Citroen would have to equip this car with more safety features, which would make it more expensive to produce and therefore push the price up. This would make it less affordable. - Urban lifestyle: This is based on a concept that centers around a progressive urban lifestyle. It's supposed to be good for sharing economy, short range and urban traffick, not highways. - target groups: besides urban families a relevant target group is middle class and rich sub-urban families. They would probably adopt this as a second or even third car, since it's small, affordable and accessible, while also having charm, a modern and sustainable image. They don't need a long-range car, since they probably already have 2 and this would just be an affordable addition.

Yeah. Clearly it is electric 'scooter car' to fall under tractor/ moped category for driving license most directly.... the EU AM category driving license. Hence top speed of 45 km/h, since that is the max speed vehicle is allowed for AM license. Though technically AM applies at max to trikes. However many of EU countries expand it nationally to tractors/moped cars and say "if it is AM category vehicle with one extra wheel, well one can still on national decision drive it with AM license. Even if vehicle now is nationally regulated tractor/quad moped/micro car, instead of EU wide AM category scooter.".

Cute little thing. Had I lived in Paris or London, it'd probably be perfect 9/10 times!
@mralistair7374 жыл бұрын
well sort of... I live in london and the only time we really need a car is to go and get something that is too big or heavy for the bus/train.. so in this the christmas tree would have to go in the passenger seat while my wife got the bus home. You''d normally never drive to just get yourself somewhere else as it'll likely be the slowest way to get there. (or you're having a drink when you arrive). I cant help but think that enough storage space for a weeks shopping would have been achievable... that and the fact that 3-pin charging is probably harder to find than ccs chargers since very few people have off-street parking.
@john6816114 жыл бұрын
Driving in London really should be only if you need to move bulky stuff or you are going to awkward outer bits. Public transport is fine 99% of the time. What we need is access to something on the edge of London so people can get out and aren't limited by trains.
@morosis824 жыл бұрын
While I did love the public transport in London, I can totally see reasons you might want a car, especially something like this that can park on a penny. I can see this sort of car has urban environments in mind. In most rush hours 30mph would be fast.

In North America many households have two cars, usually used for different purposes. This would be a great "in-town" car and a bigger, more capable vehicle would be kept for longer trips or trips requiring 2+ passengers or significant luggage. Many daily drives are less than 70 km and never exceed 50 km/h. So overall, I'd say it's a perfect second car -- it just comes down to price.

@@TaiViinikka In the Uk most households have 2 cars. Using my parents as an example my dad had a larger company car and my mum a small Polo. Mum would take us to school and at the weekend we'd use dad's car. Mum only did 20 miles a day and dad 20,000 miles per year. For local trips or short commutes this would do the job.

we need electric 45kmh vehicles like yesterday... because ice 45 cars have really shit engines that end up being a real nuisance
@Neojhun4 жыл бұрын
Yep small ICE engines are just horrible and ureliable. Modern Lithium Ion drive trains are less frustrating.

Here I rural Portugal there are loads of older drivers, driving around in 2 stroke 2 seater Aixam mini cars. They are SO noisy, it sounds like a tractor coming. They potter along at 40km, polluting like crazy and cost €15k new. These electric Amis wipe the floor with them. Might even buy one myself as a second, local use car.

That car is crazier than you can see. There is same piece of the door on the left and right sides. There is same piece of the mask at the front and at the back. Ideal car into city. I love it.

So funny how the doors open from opposite directions on either side, pretty quirky way to lower costs by using the same door. *Just realised something, apart from the roof and the rear window, the car is the same front and back!

The doors open on the same side, the left (if you're getting in). It's effectively an electric quad bike with 5 plastic panels bolted to it. I just wish that there were places to charge it if you don't have a garage or driveway (neither of which are common in most UK inner cities)

OMG that's so cute! Maybe not the most practical car for all driving situations, but if you're only going to pop down the shops every once in a while to pick up a bag of chips, or possibly a single head of lettuce, it's perfect! For pretty much anything else you might want something a little closer to a normal car.

Gallic Genius. They are going to sell millions of these things. Both to youngsters as an alternative to an electric moped (it's not coincidence that the up-front cost of the Ami is about the same as a new E-moped, 2600€) but also to people who want a "second car" that does not require yearly inspections, expensive car tax and expensive maintenance. I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat if they were for sale here, it would replace our regular car for 80% of the trips we make. The Ami is often misunderstood. Everyone who demands "more range, more speed, more everything" is completely missing the point namely that it is *not legally an automobile*. Also, thanks to low range, speed and weight it recharges in 3 hours from a regular socket. The haters are plain wrong, this is brilliant.

you aren't far off.. i fance there is a class of vehicles that you can still drive when you've lost your licence, r are too young for a full licence... so they they are little 2-stroke pretend cars and are driven by people who've been caught drunk driving, or people who are so old they can't pass the sight test.... but live a couple of miles out of town.
