It is completely out of the ordinary how Dimash Qudaibergen manages to convey extremely different emotions by singing almost exactly the same lyrics but using a different dynamic, a different key, a different timbre and different sound production techniques! He begins with the shyness and doubt of a stranger who enters a territory totally foreign to him (when he plays in the piano mode and with sounds surrounded by breath), moves on to the desire to try his strength to achieve a new beginning in life (then when he achieves that magnificent passage through the whole spectrum of his vocal rank using very different techniques of singing on each register) and reaches the end to have the power of the winning hero who not only tried, not only fought but finally defeated (when he shows us the power of his belting and that high and super long note of 20 seconds)! I only scored 3 moments, but they were more because between the choruses there were 2 slightly different moments of storytelling, but both in his register below the bass-baritone and there was another chorus (in total there were 4 choruses and two slightly more parts of the story, all in different dynamics, different keys and very different vocal techniques performed impeccably from a technical point of view, but also with strong emotional effects in the sense of impressive and maximum effect on the audience that practically listened to the whole song almost hypnotized)! For me it was the perfect song of the moment and it was a sublime demonstration of how much Dimash Qudaibergen can still progress even though he is already far beyond his contemporaries ! In this song he covered from C2 to F6 ! This traditional instrument is called Kobyz, it is made of a single piece of wood lined with goatskin, has two strings of horsehair and is an instrument used in ancient times by shamans in their rituals! The composer is Igor Krutoy, but the introduction of this instrument was Dimash's idea and it was seen how important it is in the economy of this song!

At 22 he was invited as a wild card to participate in a Chinese singing show for professional singers. The show catapulted him to relative stardom worldwide and he became a pop superstar in China.

@@officialmortius I second the suggestion. Sinful Passion is another of his better songs. Also, there’s a bit of a story to it. At the end of it you’ll see a man in a white shirt who starts the standing ovation. That’s Igor Krutoy, who was in semi-retirement at the time. He came out of retirement to work with Dimash. And if you haven’t heard Ogni Pietra, that one was the first one Krutoy wrote for him, and it lets him do a bit more traditional/classical/operatic type singing while still showing off his range. I’m not generally a big fan of the styles of music Dimash favors (I actually like acapella more, and I’m a music theater geek), but it’s hard not to enjoy hearing him sing, no matter what he does.

Each performance is a master class on vocal dynamics as Dimash utilizes his voice as an artist wields a brush to create the light and dark, texture, and colour that bring the canvas to life. You commented about the endurance and control required for his final sustained note, the F#5. He does that note so well. Doesn't he? From the age of seven through adulthood, Dimash swam three hours per day, every day, as part of his vocal training to build stamina, lung capacity, and breath control. He still swims one hour per day, no matter where he is. In the segment following the folkloric component of the performance, Dimash finished on an F6, which is also the top note in the Queen of the Night's "Der Hölle Rache" aria from Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte." It would be wonderful to have you react to Dimash's performance of a new vocalise version of "Ave Maria." Like "Stranger," "Ave Maria" was composed by Ukrainian-Russian composer and impresario Igor Krutoy, who came out of retirement to work with Dimash after watching his 2018 performance of "Sinful Passion" (also worth a reaction video).

It’s actually more like 20 seconds, because the note starts with the “a” of “again,” but you didn’t start timing it until the second syllable. Loved your reaction even so! Thanks from a Florida Dear (Dimash calls his fans his Dears, just fyi). Also, regarding Pentatonix, my faves are Hallelujah; Mary, Did You Know?, Imagine, and Sound of Silence. I strongly recommend all of those.

Surprise, surprise! Dimash is actually a baritone. He has stretched his voice beyond belief. And this last notes are not full chest either, it's a mixed voice belt, as common in heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden. I feel like Mortius and Peter are two sides of the same incredible coin. Mortius helps me understand and appreciate the structure, Peter helps me understand and appreciate the substance. Stranger is an epic song with touches of medieval, Gregorian and even a march together. I love Dimash’s different voice textures specially the Middle East vibes in those riffs and runs 🎤❤️🔝🎼👏👏 Igor Krutoy said “It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. I’m so glad you reacted to this. I loved SOS most for a long time because it really allowed him to show off not only his range but his mastery of different styles. Now this song actually gives him even more of a showcase-no big surprise since Igor Krutoy wrote it for him. I’m still waiting for someone to explain the mechanics of that ethnic segment in the middle of the song. It’s a traditional style of singing in some regions, including maybe Kazakhstan, but I’m trying to figure out how you get those trills-is it a form of vibrato or yodel or what?? Anyway, great review! I figured he’d jolt you out of your chair at least once! LOL.
