I just hung out with some 100-200 odd Pakistanis at a gathering, i was invited coz i am muslim, didnt expect to be the only Indian there. I stood out like a sore thumb. Never felt so awkward or uncomfortable in my life. I'm sure theyre nice people, but if ur Indian ur Indian. Those guys havent been raised on idli-dosa or vada pav. Those guys dont understand what a big deal an intercaste or inter-religion or a north-south marriage is. Those guys dont care who is Ambedkar or what is reservation. They dont know how one should take & eat temple ka prasad. They dont know slokas from the Bhagwad Gita. They have never been to a Sunday mass. They dont know in India, during Ramadan for Iftar or Eid, you invite people of every faith. They dont know what is langar or Jo Bole Sonihal. Yaar if you have lived in India you have bits and pieces of every religion in you, every region, every state, every cuisine. Whether u like it or not. When i was growing up and even as an adult some ignorant people said "go back to Pakistan" because of my muslim name. You know what, standing there feeling like a total stranger and outsider among those 100-200 Pakistanis, i realized how Indian i am. How every inch of me is Indian and i am so, so, so glad for it.

Rich people get cute wives. Simple. So people who inherit generations of wealth look pretty because their rich male ancestors married the prettiest women. In India social mobility isn’t very high, so most people were rich because a bigger chunk of their wealth was inherited and a smaller chunk was self-earned. This is obviously changing and now people go from mildly-poor/lower middle class to wealthy in one generation. But our mindset has remained the same
