I'm learning so much here compared to the actual course I signed up at AAPC. I have a learning disability and your videos give me an amazing learning experience. I was afraid I won't pass but your teaching techniques are giving me so much confidence. Will there be a part 4? :) Thank you so much

You are absolutely made for teaching this course. you can tell you really love what you do. You want others to get this and you add extra, helpful, well thought of things that just stick with you and you remember because you explained it well or thought of a nifty way to be always sure of ourselves and especially love the three parts that show you what the main category. I was already in school for Medical Coding and Billing in 2011 and a mother of 3 daughter when my father passed away unexpectedly while i was in college about 3 in the morning with my children right there i woke to trying to save his life and get medical help to us with my kids right there. I was 75 percent done but left trying to save my home after losing my Daddy to Ventricular Standstill. So now, I am going to go on back and just bringing what I can on my credits. You make the course more interesting because you are passionate, thorough and encouraging. You inspire me. i have sat through a few of your vids and subscribed as well as successfully took the quizz es.

I am confused about SEQUELA. Sequela -a condition which is the consequence of a previous disease or injury. Why is the fracture the sequela? You noted previously that the arthritis is the sequela because arthritis is the condition that happens after the fracture.

I was feeling extremely stressed and discouraged about the current course I’m taking Through the AAPC - finding the teaching not especially helpful or geared toward how I best learn and process information. The way you explain things and Methodically go Over example's just makes learning this information so much easier & enjoyable.

"The amount of time you spend on getting rid of the "Apprentice-status" is better spent getting the CCS® Credential. " I couldn't have said it better. Recruiters are rushing me to get the "A" off my CPC and COC- certifications but they don't understand I don't have experience and employers refuse to train like they should so I have made it MY job to master this stuff so I can ask for my time's worth in compensation. I couldn't thank you enough for the time & effort you put into breaking down this heavy content with such astounding clarify. I know it cost you tears we don't see. God Bless you

Thank you for making this easier to understand. In reference to coding the sequela, you stated the the sequela is coded after the original condition, however (1:34:24), I noticed you coded the arthritis due to the fracture first then the fracture. Please clarify. Thank you
@AMCIMedicalCoding
@AMCIMedicalCoding 3 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome....The Tramatic arthropathy is the sequelae...It gets sequenced first followed by the injury (with the 7th character S)
@AMCIMedicalCoding
@AMCIMedicalCoding 3 жыл бұрын
@Yujin Yes, the fractured left ankle caused the sequelae so you would assign the sequelae indicator to that accident code. In essence. You would sequence the late effect illness/condition being treated first, followed by the sequelae of the injury second. When you think about it, it completely describes what happed.

@Yujin The chief reason for the encounter should drive your sequencing and the red instructional notations. Why is the patient at the encounter? When no other guideline drives your code selection, always remember to sequence the chief reason for the encounter first for outpatient visits.

It can be read as traumatic arthritis as a (sequela of)ankle fracture, so that the sequencing makes sense. The term sequela is connected to the cause (although it would make better sense if it was connected to the late effect instead). But the guidelines appended the sequela to the cause so thats how we code it.

@@AMCIMedicalCoding so TA is the reason for the encounter, so it is coded first, even though it is the real "sequel" or sequela to the Fracture...the "S" at the end of the Fracture code signifies that the Fracture is not the sequela, but has a sequela (the TA). But TA (the actual sequela) is coded first bc it caused the encounter. Is this right? Thank you!

Got confused with the Sequela (late effects). It says here - "patient fractured his left ankle 6 months ago, today, he has traumatic arthritis in his left ankle in which the Dr. Says it is related to the fracture" Meaning, traumatic arthritis is the late effect or the sequela of the fracture he had 6 months ago right? With that in mind, the code should be S82.892S, M12.572. Please enlighten me if this is wrong.

Hi this video has been helpful, in the section about sequela you said to code the condition first then the sequela but you did the opposite. Can you expand on that or did I misunderstand?

Hi , for the fractured ankle code, do we automatically assume it's traumatic even though the diagnoses doesn't specify that it is? The is pathological, simple, and traumatic fractures...how do we know which one to pick when the diagnosis doesn't say it's traumatic?
@AMCIMedicalCoding
@AMCIMedicalCoding Жыл бұрын
Great question......You can assume it is traumatic when the patient is being treated in the for the first time (there are guidelines), and or when the documentation specifies or describes a traumatic fracture.

Can someone explain to me the difference between "conditions that are part of an integral disease" and "multiple coding for a single disease"? So it says for B5 to only code cholecystitis and not abdominal pain etc. But when coding for HIV they ask to code manifestations. Are manifestations considered an integral part of the disease?
@AMCIMedicalCoding
@AMCIMedicalCoding 3 жыл бұрын
In general if a sign, symptom is related to a disease, you don't code those Signs & Symptoms AND the diagnosis. Only code the diagnosis. e.g, abdominal pain is an indicator of cholecystitis. So you do not code the abdominal pain. Yes, Manifestations are an integral part of a disease process, however some manifestations are codable. Make sure that you read the read instructional notes in the tabular list. It will often tell you when this manifestations are codable.

Hi i am confused. If the sequela was the arthritis. Wouldnt the fracture be sequenced before the arthritis? Not the other way around like shown in video? Thankyou

I came out with the wrong code for the fractured left ankle - M84.472S. My question is how do you know what type of fracture it was since the Dr. didn't specify?
