Maybe, but people do like flawed underdogs who can develop. In Cyber Formula, you have a clueless 14-years old motorcyclist getting thrown into a racing car and barely making it into the podiums until he gets a mid-season upgrade.

Obviously, what seems to be a Speed Racer knockoff is actually a genuine Toei product after all. Nonetheless, Speed Racer, based on a Shonen Book manga, is a Tatsunoko product as well.

We had a decent dub of the entire Grand Prix no Taka show in the 90s in France. I remember I remember watching an episode on a Sunday morning on TV where a character crashed into a tree and died tragically. A very moving episode. Then in the afternoon I was watching the actual F1 Grand Prix and witnessed Ayrton Senna's crash and death. I don't believe I ever watched that anime again.

My favorite part is that Wikipedia says The Masked Man is supposed to be a disguised Niki Lauda. Hawk of the Grand Prix ran between '77 to '78, and Lauda was badly burned at the '76 German Grand Prix after a wreck. I guess that's why he wears a balaclava all the time.

For those curious, the anime shown here is "Arrow Emblem: Hawk of the Grand Prix," a 44 episode series. Additionally, footage from those 44 episodes was re-edited into a movie that was given the imaginative name "Super Grand Prix."
@ShelltoonTV13 жыл бұрын
So, Super Grand Prix is basically another attempt at taking a long-form anime and trying to cram it into 90 minutes. The end result was a movie in which the lead character constantly fails in spectacular fashion, and keeps moving up in the racing world because of his constant string of failures.
