I fucking love the dragon clip. How he starts self-consciously telling himself that the guy must have been lying since dragons aren't real, like he's worried that it might actually be true. And then he adds they aren't real *today*, as if they just went extinct. That clip has everything.

Actually from what I can tell most characters do use commas EXCEPT for the main character which leads me to believe it's supposed to be a quirk about him how his mind is "racing" and he speaks quickly.

That Racer X clip might just be the finest 17 seconds of television ever seen. It has absolutely everything. X doing that completely extra and over the top flip, the awkward running animation and the goofy comment, Speed striking a ridiculous pose and doing nothing as his brother steals his car and floors it, the complete lack of audio outside of footsteps. It’s a tour de force of absolute madness and I love it

That first clip nearly killed me. The fast pace and constant cuts between actions, the vehicles not obeying any laws of logic, the explosion that destroys the car, and the woman just lying on the road unscathed but seemingly dead. Finally, Speed, the man responsible for the crash, just nonchalantly walks up to the woman and says, “You’re fine, get up.” And the woman, who really is fine, just turns to look at Speed in confusion. It’s just brilliant

They only had the budget for three actors at $125 per episode but he managed to convince a friend to join for split payment. They had to name all the characters and write the script and only had a day to do each episode, which was about an average eight hour shift.

He didn't even pretend it was because throwing would have been wrong he straight up admitted he just wanted to win.

That first clip was great. Speed causes woman's car to careen into a cliff, do several somersaults, EXPLODE, then he tells the woman she's not hurt and to get up. Savage! This just goes to show you that Speed Racer is the diamond in the B-anime family. It's funny how serious it tries to take itself and yet it feels like no one in the production team cared about it.

Speed (Go Mifune in the original Japanese version) is portrayed in the manga as a heroic racer who lives by sportmanship and would use violence only as a last resort. The anime changed it and turned him into a jerk with a hidden heart of gold, because according to anime trend at the time, audiences prefered cynical antiheroes. Go mifune in the anime is much more prideful and kind of selfish. When American animation studio dubbed the series as Speed Racer, they still thought Anime version of Go Mifune as too nice, so they decided to amped up his jerk behavior and turned into Speed most anime fans know today.
