When the U.S. fired on Guam, the Spanish governor thought the U.S. Navy was saluting the Spanish flag. He did not even know the U.S. was at war with Spain until he was made a prisoner of the U.S.A. @@mrsecuroserv8292 I wouldn't say the war against North Vietnam was unbalanced, they had a professional army and air force that proved to be a match to the US, although most of the battles (if not all) were won by the US. A marine in a Frontline episode called "The Bloods of Nam" from 1986 said that facing the NVA sometimes were like facing another marine platoon, the used the same tactics, hand signs to communicate etc. The thing about Vietnam was just the fact that it was a war that drowned US money and blood for too long, same thing with those wars like the Soviet Afghan war, Chechnya, the Afghan war after 2011 etc

@@isaacdepaula2103matched us Air Force? It’s hard to express how incorrect this is. The US had OVERWHELMING air superiority. But engaging MiGs for the sake of such as the Korean War wasn’t the purpose. The objective was to preserve strike flights, that’s it. Also the idea something was Drained (I think you meant) I’m not even sure what this means but it had little to do with money. All war is money but that’s not why. It was the style of fighting. It wasn’t a “fair” fight in terms of overall strength but odds were evened by the oppositions tactics reducing numerical advantages to Nil. You cite things like the Afghan war again absolutely nothing to do with Money - this was overall objectives issue (nation building) plus opposition strategy again. Sprawling terrain to hide and spread out forces in difficult terrain is tough to habitually fight with prototypical munitions and matériel.

As a Filipino fan of the channel, the Spanish-American War is one of my favorite wars because of the Battle of Manila Bay as mentioned. I'd include the hilariously one-sided British invasion of Ethiopia in 1868. An insane ruler started kidnapping priests and diplomats. Britian sailed in a rescue force of 20,000 British and Indian troops with 40,000 horses and elephants - Marched across a mountainous desert, won over the locals, annialated the Emperor's army, rescued the hostages, and then went home again. It would be amazing logistics now, but in the 1860s it was next level.

That is the brutal natures of all wars throughout the history in all honesty. People gotta do whatever it takes to survive, gain personal glory, supporting their countries and many other reasons for selfish causes. Unfortunately in today's history, many politicians do not learn the lessons of the past and somehow to choose to repeat or makes the same mistakes as other notorious figures like i.e Hitler, Stalin, Mao. A couple of notes about the 2nd Italo-Ethiopian war. 1) Emperor Haile Silase appealed for intervention from the League of Nations, but was turned down due to fears that intervention might precipitate what would later be WW2. 2) While Italians claimed Ethiopia as part of Italian East Africa, resistance lasted longer than months: indeed Ethiopians viewed Italian presence as occupation, and recognition of IEA did not come readily (plus no settlers came). Resistance was bolstered by the British and Yugoslavian advisors, such that by 1941, the Italians had been driven out

Seriously, that little soldier is something I’d absolutely love to have sitting on my desk. Unfortunately I have far more essential things to pay for right now, but if the preorders don’t sell out before I’m able to get paid again, I’ll definitely consider plonking down some cash for my own little happy American G.I. to keep the transformers figurines and stress ball in line while I’m away from my office.

Fun fact: during the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, Roberto Farinacci, a higher-up of the Fascist Party, lost his hand to a grenade. According to the citation of his war wound pension, it was a battle wound. In truth, he screwed up while grenade fishing, and Mussolini forced him to give his pension to charity.

Surprising that there is no mention of the East African Slave Trade which was the reason for the Anglo-Zanzibar War. The British were stamping it out at the time and the new Sultan wanted to continue the trade. We sent a bill for the ammunition used.

Azerbaijan's recent aggression against Artsakh wasn't exactly very fair, either. Especially since The Armenians living there were likely malnourished, due to Azerbaijan starving them with a blockade for ages. Which the international community obviously ignored, as they were already too busy sucking off Zelensky.

Uruguay, brasil and argentina got together in a bloody "war" against paraguay. This is known as the "triple alianza" war (the triple alliance war). Paraguay was very powerful and rich country, which obviously was something that non of the other countrys liked. They invaded paraguay, three countries against one, it quickly became a genocide, there are stories about paraguay being so short in resourses due to this really unfair fight that civilians started fighting with sticks and stones. Truly one of the worst acts from south american countries. We exterminated a whole generation and prevented a country from becoming a powerful country. Shameful they don't teach it that much in school. Cheers from uruguay, i love the channel, i wish you could talk about "el plan condor" and the atrocities comitted during dictatorships in south america.

Italian soldiers didn’t need harboring. It’s a common myth spouted post 1943 as the eastern front collapsed. The reason Italy underperformed was Hitlers pact was forcibly enforced drawing Italy into a 1940 conflict unprepared.
