Of the great things that sets Islam apart is that a person is neither exalted not degraded for who their family is. Sometimes, a faith or its main points pass down through all of a family and sometimes they don't. What was done by Abu Talib before Muhammad Ibn `Abdullah was called to be a prophet doesn't prove he accepted Islam, but it does enforce that his good beliefs and practices after knowing of Islam will be accepted for what they are. The statement of Ali ibn Abi Talib only indicated that his father did more good than bad, but Prophet Muhammad praying for him after his death is according to Suwrah 9. We should support our political standpoints through religious narrations and verses, but not as mere antagonists fulfilling their own desires.

Just to quote Martin Lings in his book Muhammad (SAWAW) writes about Abu Talib, Abdullah and Harith being 3 brothers all from the same mother as opposed to what you have mentioned at 05:00. And Abu Sufyan Ibn Harith being one of those who stood by the Rasool (SAWAW) during Ghazwa Hunain and not Abu Sufyan Ibn Harb(Najdi Propaganda). Abu Sufyan Ibn Harith was also given pardon after a heated discussion!
