@georgesomething
@georgesomething 3 жыл бұрын
@@neighborhood_k They make their own drivers. The company is basically father and his two sons, all audio engineers, trying to get the most detailed, natural sounding headphones possible from ground up. They start by making the drivers sound like they want (most companies usually get the drivers and then try to make the body make them sound like they want it), then they make the body trying to make it so that it affects the driver as little as possible. Apparently the detailing on them is so good that audio mistakes you would never hear on any other headphones can be heard on the 1266. R&D and being hand made in low quantities on top of the quality is the reason why they cost so much, not the manufacturing region. Now, it's a different question of whether it's worth getting headphones for 5000$, that would end up ruining many songs, because the songs themselves weren't mastered well enough (first world problems, eh?). There is certainly an argument to be made about diminishing returns at this price point, but at that I would have to remind that the whole audiophile hobby is not exactly for the money conscious and misers.

In 10 years of headphones auditioning the Abyss is definitely the headphone that impressed me the most. Stax (SR-007) and Sennheiser (HE60) electrostats sound super detailed as well but not as natural and organic. That's the big thing with the Abyss. The Quad Era-1 that i got recently reminds me of the Abyss, but i haven't heard it properly amped.
@suhbatshugan3721
@suhbatshugan3721 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, electrostats don't have the weight. I love detail but when there's a lot going on electrostats don't have the weight behind the sound, it sounds thin. These on the other hand, it's absolutely ridiculous. If you can drive them, it is as fast with the weight of a proper driver. It's insane.

To be fair, the ~2000$ MDR-Z1R already beats most speaker systems at around 40'000$ Speaker systems are just not that good. Speaker fans cry like vampires in sunlight if you tell that out loud, but speakers are just not that good. The more air you have to move and(!) controll by the environment, the lower is the sound quality. Sitting several meters away from something that moves a lot of air that bounces all over the place is the worst case scenario. And this is the exact reason why you can get the same amount of details as you have in the 1266 Phi TC from an 1000~2000 In-Ear But In-Ear can't give you that physical sensation you feel in your head and headphones can't give you the physical Sensation you have in your body from speakers. So in terms of Sound Quality, it is, no question, In-Ear > Headphones > Speakers In terms of "Wow" and "Sensation", its Speakers > Headphones > In-Ear. Its the same with Cars and Bikes. You can get an Bike that drives 345km/h and win you races for 20k and less. So if your priority is speed and performance on race tracks, you're getting 10x more with a bike than with a car. A car that can beat an 20k bike costs, at least, 100k, mostly more. So Headphones are, and will always be, a compromise of Sound Quality and Sensation. But imho, they deliver enough sensation to make speakers unattractive. But i don't see why anyone would need that amount of detail from an headphone when you can just use an In-Ear for that and buy an headphone that has more "Sensation" and "Wow" with just marginally less details for 50% of the price

i'd say, why don't you just watch the video and find it out by yourself? 15:19 there you go! ;) and about bad words, it's about time to stop being a snowflake, if you don't like the way he talks you can check other channels, youtube is full of audio gear reviews.

Your reviews are funny and i respect your opnion on the sound qaulity but holy moly is your statement about power nonsense. They are 50 Ohm 88db/mw Headphones. That means with 80mw (2Vrms), they are shouting at 107db so you can drive this with an Sony Walkman. With an FiiO M11 Plus (ESS) you're already at >114db on High-Gain With an FiiO M17 in Desktop Mode, you're at >120db At what volumes do you listen to music? And before someone sais thats bullshit, i test driven these at an audio store (which was not quiet and they dont isolate well) and i could drive them perfectly fine on 4.4mm on my WM1ZM2, even on low gain for most songs. There were only a few songs where i had to switch to High-Gain, on an 250mW @ 16 Ohm DAP. Even the Moondrop VENUS needs more power then these (and i could also drive this one perfectly fine with the Walkman).

It looks like you paused time or disabled gravity, and the headband just won't flex. If they made headphones for Minecraft characters, they would look like this. And there's no height adjustment?! You're telling me that the banana hammock strap thing can't slide up or down? I guess that wouldn't fit their tolerances.

One of the hardest headphones to drive, need a super powerful amp (10w+). Please don't use high gain. Wonder if you've heard the Raal = better hf and soundstage, worse bass.

Hello, how are you? I do have a question for you. I have a Denon AVRS530BT receiver with elac B5s, Polk s35 for my center, bic America F12 sub, and some generic satellite speakers. I’m looking to upgrade my receiver to at least support Dolby Atmos and move the elacs to the rear and upgrade the bookshelf’s. Any suggestions on receivers and speakers that won’t break the bank?

Listened to them at last year's canjam. Not a big fan I like stax more. And the new hedd headphone that they had on show floor just stumps on these like if it was nothing. But still I consider all the abyss headphones to be better than audezes, but less impressive than the focals clear and utopia.
