I wanted to extend my gratitude for the incredibly insightful videos you’ve been sharing on KZbin. Your detailed explanations of construction codes, particularly the IBC series, have been immensely helpful. I’ve noticed that you cover various codes across different playlists. It would be wonderful if you could compile all your channel episodes, from the first to the latest, into a single playlist. This would make it much easier to follow along and ensure I don’t miss any valuable content. Thank you once again for your fantastic work and for making such complex topics accessible.

Wow, You explained the necessary code, but it was tedious and the best most attractive way; great job 👏👏👏👏

Glad you liked it. That is always the challenge. The building code is sometimes "boring" so finding the most entertaining/attractive way to present it is very hard. But we are trying!! Thank you again.

Thanks for the video! I think what would be helpful is describing some real life examples of each occupancy group types. Like airports, parking garages, theatres, prisons, etc.

can you provide examples of the following three types : A change of occupancy shall include any 1)change of occupancy classification, 2)any change from one group to another group within an occupancy classification or 3)any change in use within a group for a specific occupancy classification.

Amazing video as usual! I have a question, if in a commercial building, a room that used for break, “ break room” and it did not have oven or range, so no cooking, and it only has around 10 people, which group this room should be specified? Thanks
@archicorner3 жыл бұрын
Normally the room name “break room” would still be aceptable even if no cooking was happening. Most jurisdictions would require a 1:15 load for such a room.
@marianawassef79933 жыл бұрын
@@archicorner Thank you for the quick response. Sorry I did not get it. Acceptable? Which group?
@archicorner3 жыл бұрын
Ok, sorry I did not understand it at first. As it relates to occupancy groups, occupancy groups refers to the “big picture”. For example: an office building (“B” occupancy) may have a break room. Therefore the break room would also be be “B” occupancy. Therefore you need to ask yourself; what occupancy group does my building fall into? Restaurants, hospitals, places of worship, schools, etc. They could all have a break room. Therefore the occupancy group would belong to the use of the building. Occupancy does not necessarily change per room (that’s a whole other subject). In your case you need to establish what your “commercial building” is used for to determine occupancy group, not what each individual room is. Your break room would be the same occupancy group.

Thanks you are great breaking that, question What difference between IBC and IRC book? I will have CSL exam but I still have this question, How I know what book to use
@archicorner2 жыл бұрын
International Building Code (IBC) is mainly used for all commercial building applications. Internation Residential Code (IRC), as the name indicates, this is for RESIDENTIAL applications. Therefore, if you design homes, the IRC would be helpful. If you are doing a commercial building, the IBC would be the book to have.

Parking is classified as occupancy Group S-2 per IBC section 311, which is further defined and regulated by IBC section 406.

Airports come under which group ?
@archicorner7 ай бұрын
I have never designed an airport before, but I would guess that it is a "B" occupancy. Note that this is different than the hangers where the planes may be parked, stored or worked on. It's simply a big ol' office building being used for business, where it just so happens that there a bunch of airplanes flying outside 🤣.
