There is no other car in existence that I would do anything to just get a ride in one. Owning one is so far out of the question I would have to rob a billionaire to have enough to buy the one I would want. When I think fast gorgeous cars, there is only one. I know, now there are a lot of very fast cars right off the showroom floor, but, #1 they are priced out of everybody's reach, they are not as awesome looking and at the same time, mean looking and yet just plain beautiful as the Cobra. Just let me come into a few hundred thousand and I will be ordering one the same day. What, you think i should buy a nice house? Why, if I could be the owner of a Cobra, I wouldn't mind living in a cardboard box on the other side of the tracks. Taking a family of five out for a drive in the country, winner: Audi. Taking the wife/girlfriend out for a night on the town, winner: Cobra. Taking a trip to the local track to actually participate, winner: Cobra. Top pick for almost any car to buy/build for himself, winner: Cobra. Choosing a car to buy that exudes "cool" in every respect, winner: Cobra. Choosing a car that is going to improve your image not to mention drastically improve the average guy's chances with the opposite sex, winner (by a really long shot): Cobra. A car that handles well, looks great, has copious amounts of power and makes it's owner instantly feel better about just being himself, winner: Cobra. It’s obvious drag racing isn’t as popular there as is in the states. That burnout wasn’t enough to even remotely put any heat in the tires and the guy in the Audi double yellowed before the cobra could even get to stage. Not to mention the terrible reaction time.

You are absolutely right, although I have to mention a few things: at first it was a race series, where the cobra driver (namely me) knew that he is faster than the Audi guy (who is a cool fellow anyways) so the weak reaction time was because I wanted to give him a jump because it was a sure win if I don't get a red light. The burnout also was so short, this was an unprepped track as you see (the heat was about 95 f) so I didn't think that's necessary to make a heavy burnout for my Toyo r888s. My car was very weak then so the toyo was easily held the dig start. Worth to mention the same cobra and same driver can ran high 10 low 11 later quarter mile, which is pretty good for a naturally aspirated two wheel drive manual transmission street legal car.

@@johnny427 where was this held? It’s cool to see different aspects of the car culture having fun. Also, R888s are great sticky tires for road racing and autocross. I like them. I personally enjoy drag racing more and typically run Mickey Thompson street ETs on my street truck.

@@Huxley2022 Hi, Mickey Thompson unfortunately is not street legal here, so I had to make a compromise with the R888s (now they changed to R888r which seems better), because the cobra is not a trailer queen and I like to go to the race location on it's own. A little more explanation for using semi slick radials instead dedicated drag radials (or drag slicks), I have independent suspension with dana40 LSD differential, and only a TKO600 gearbox not an auto, so if I have to be somewhat careful with the start, with high rev and dumping the clutch is a sure way to break something with sticky tyres and prepped surface. Here is a race against a tesla p100d where I pushed the car harder but of course I was very careful comparing to a trailered united states drag track race car launching on prepped surface. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHnId3yXmcdkpc0

The AC Cobra is not a British sports car. The only thing British related to that car was the chassis by Auto Carrier. The drivetrain and suspension, the stuff that made it go fast, are all American. I would concede that it is a US/UK hybrid developed in the US.

@@Dave3442it is British ,AC even modified the bodies in England and test fit the v8, all the bodies were shipped trimmed with axels and suspension minus the engines as the engines were priced over there , the only thing American was the ford engine AC did all the development work . The whole car was an AC ace to start with already in production, the body suspension everything . And AC is a British company

I have been rather fortunate to have owned both a Cobra & an RS6 (at the same time), and although the Audi 4wd system launches the car like nothing on earth, even with 600 bhp, the Cobras shear torque with 7.0 litres & 550bhp , would always feel much more brutal, and was far quicker over a quarter mile.( even though you were literally hanging on to the wheel at anything over 100 mph!)

The ET of the Cobra is about what they were back in the day (on the tires of the time), while the ET of the RS6 is about what they were back in the day - the current RS6 can run in the 11s on stock tires. (The Cobra could probably get into the 11s...with different tires, a dragstrip surface like you would find in the US, and a skilled driver. The RS6 doesn't require much driver skill to launch well.)

@Shaggy Days Horse Show - The single 427 Cobra Dragon Snake made turned a best 1/4 mile of10.86 @ 127 mph. The 289 version posted a best of 11.73 @ 119mph. Take the AWD out of that RS6 to have it compare more equally to the Cobras and I'll guarantee that they will be much closer in 1/4 mile performance!

I adore both cars given my Uncles (Charles Hurlock etc) owned AC Cars at Thames Ditton and I drive an Audi S6 V8. I still have a burn mark on my right lower leg whilst getting out of a 427 at the age of 6 in 1969 after a very swift trip down the A217 (Banstead) wearing very oversized leather helmet and goggles. A great memory.

Skill levels are somewhat different, you can hear the Audi at the line with the throttle wide open popping on the rev limiter with a neutral drop on the green, the Cobra does damn near a relaxed traffic light launch. Even with the automatic trans doing all the work on the Audi the cobra easily recovered from the initial tire spin and made his shifts and pulled on by and sounded great doing it. It 20 years the Audis will mostly have disappeared but I imagine the Cobras (even the replicas) will still draw crowds.

When the Cobra's rear wheels stop spinning, the station wagon is dead. 4WD vehicles shouldn't be allowed to drag race from still, it makes no sense. Rolling start from 40 kmh makes far more sense. It's not a traction race, is it?

That isn't a real Cobra. It is a Gardner Douglas clone I believe although there are many clones out there. The engine is questionable as there are many combos of engine build/size that go in these clones. A real street original 427 would run around low 13s in quarter mile with tires of the day. I have a Hot Rod magazine article that showed that time also. I know this because when I was in college in the late 60s a classmate had a real bone stock 427 AC cobra (not the 428) and it ran consistent quarter mile times in low 13s. The suspension and tires of the day were very limiting. My neighbor has both a clone 427 with around 500 hp 427 motor and an ALFA Romeo 4C identical to the 4C I have. All three of them ran quarter mile in about same time....low 13s stock. He says even though his has modern tires it is still a beast to get the Cobra to hook up. The amazing part is the ALFA has a 106 ci turbo 4 cylinder (1750 cc) that is rated at 237 hp. Mine now has around 320 hp and it is faster (quarter around 12.9 sec). but in any case it shows how technology has made a huge difference. On the highway I get over 30 mpg on the 4C if I keep out of the turbo ... not easy to do ;-) . That Cobra clone drinks gas like it was free. The ALFAs have a mid engine so easy to hook up.... and light weight. The neighbor finally sold his Cobra clone but kept the ALFA 4C.

Most of the replicas go with a Ford power plant but I saw one the other day here on YT with a 12 cylinder race boat engine lol...Ford makes a 7.0 Liter motor so that's probably what this particular Cobra is sporting

It has a 427 cubic inch block (580 horses) but at the time of the race it was under tuning and set up, so we didn't push hard. Later it ran high 10-low 11 time which is about 2 seconds faster than the Audi, so you are basically right

The moment the Cobra got traction, this was won. Better power to mass ratio. The RS6 was always going to 60-foot better, and would be much better in snow or heavy downpour, but everywhere else on the street, the Cobra will doing everything better.

not exactly boat props and doesn't exactly make it go faster. The props are in front of the radiator, it helps keep temps cool as it forces more air into the rad. As a result u can tune the car to a higher fuel and oxy mixture and still not overheat ur engine. So basically it indirectly helps you attain more power in your car without blowing up the engine.
