OK... haven't read too many of the comments so far, so I don't know if anybody's told the backstory for this song, but how I heard it, it was that after a show early on in their career, there were two girls, two groupies who were drinking with Bon, and they got him good 'n sloshed, one of em was thinner and the other was as described in the song and she told Bon sometime during the evening they were drinking, "I've had 26 rockstars so far !" So eventually Bon wakes up, his head pounding, rolls over and see's this big fat, voluptuous Rosie lying beside him and she sleepily opens one eye and croaks two words to Bon, "... twenty-seven..." and rolls over and immediately falls back asleep. LOL
@rubenmacias10714 жыл бұрын
The song Whole Lotta Rosie is about a groupie they had in the early days of the band. And another fact about the band is their favorite musician that inspired them is Chuck Berry which was one of the original founders of rock and roll, that's where Angus Young gets a lot of his moves from when he's playing guitar, look up Chuck Berry's performance and you will see the similarities.

@c.s.p.schofield22023 жыл бұрын
Music has been “pumped out” in every period since the development of commercial music recording (I don’t know so much about the era of sheet-music). We remember what stood up to the test of time, and that’s mostly - MOSTLY - because it was done by real musical craftsmen (and women) with passion. The tripe dies. We haven’t had enough time to forget the drivel of today. But we will, and in 50 years people will be talking about the few good songs we have now and saying “They just don’t make music like that anymore”. Bottom line? We remember the popular culture of eras past so fondly because, mercifully, we don’t remember that much of it.

I love everything about this song, but what I really like is that it's so affectionate. Like a lot of AC DC songs, it's affectionate and joyful. And I like the way in which, in a way, it celebrates womanhood. It doesn't matter if you're 'not exactly pretty' or 'not exactly small', you can still be 'a whole lotta woman'.
@mvdwege4 жыл бұрын
It's AC/DC. For a band that's so unabashedly celebrating male lust, their lyrics are quite woman-friendly. "You Shook Me All Night Long" is another example, it's about a night of great sex, but the lyrics are not "I had a good time" but "You were great". Tongue firmly in cheek, focused on the fun and the joy. Compare that to late 80s US hair metal, which cribbed heavily from AC/DC, and got this totally wrong.

Bon Scott's song celebrating the 'skills' of an amorous bartender in Tasmania that had a reputation for, shall we say. 'collecting' intimate experiences with musicians as they came through town. Rosie was a big girl (42" 39" 56", 266 lbs) and Bon was a little guy (5'5" or so) so he said (with a smile) that he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. Rosie took him down and 'collected' another. He says that he burned his butt on the lighbulb hanging from the ceiling, but that Rosie had all the right moves! :)

Angus Young (lead guitar) and his brother Malcolm (RIP) (rhythm guitar) were both born in Scotland as was their 2nd vocalist Bon Scott (RIP). According to Bon Rosie was a lady he had been acquainted with! Their 1st vocalist Dave Evans left after the 1974 single "Can I Sit Next To You, Girl" then Bon joined and in my opinion was part of the best AC/DC recordings including Whole Lotta Rosie (1977) right up to his sad death in 1980. Their 3rd vocalist Brian Johnson (on this clip) has been with them ever since and is brilliant but there is something magical about the Bon era that was sadly lost back then.

So the story goes that the band were doing a gig in Rosebury. A mining town on the north west coast of Tasmania. (I am a Tasmanian BTW). So being a pretty isolated town a group of young lasses had driven across the island to meet the band and naturally the band members were happy to oblige. Anyhow one of the young lasses was on the larger side and Bon Scott the lead singer of the band "took one for the team" as they say. Obviously she rocked his socks off as one of the greatest songs ever written is about that night. Rosey is a tribute to the town of Rosebury where the deeds were done that night.

Doesn't remember a thing. Rosie comes in the next morning to check in on him. This is when Bon realizes this was his date for the previous evening. As he stated- she was not exactly pretty-not exactly small, but she had it all. Rosie would not take any money from him. Bon Scott said- "I am going to write a song about you." He left her a very nice tip and yes, wrote a song about one of the best nights in his life! How's that for being remembered! A great compliment.

Rosie was according too Bon Scott ACDC the late singer who died and was there in the band before Brian Johnson the one you see now took the Mic control and joined (: But Both great singer's but anyway Bon said he met this Hungarian bar lady or brawful lady who really showed hi. A good time and prooved to be too much for him too handle and of course she was as big as that giant doll you saw in that live concert (:
