That's pretty cool to be able to see a side by side comparison! You could even choose the same camera angle in ACC to make it perfect. The real steering seems a bit more lively but maybe that's due to your choice of a safe setup in the game?

RE Setup: I don't think so, generally in all sims you need to be almost linear smooth to be fast. In real life there's more room for some 'flavour'.

Nice, some ACC content. I've been waiting for these guides. I caught your big grid race yesterday. That was a joke of a race. I had a feeling it was going to be a crazy race just because of the sheer amount of cars. Even Jimmy Broadbent got murdered in the race. That bug you received which started your race with damage was rough, but still made me laugh when you pulled a 2:19 anyway. I can't pull a 2:19 with a perfect car, mostly because I don't really understand how to set my car up yet. Anyway, thanks for the great content Dave.

I agree about the grip levels in ACC, it seems a bit lower than it should be. I hope the devs take your feedback on this. It's more fun to drive with grip!

@David Perel Great content and a amazing to have real insight as to what you see/feel vs what we as simracers see and feel. Really enjoyed having you on in the Big Grid Spa event, I hope to see you online more often as it would be pretty nice to race against you. I was the Huracan that overtook you on the exit of Pouhon rather closely, was fighting to keep track position ahead and wanted to take advantage of some traffic. I'll be honest, not many back markers I would've attempted that move on, it was aggressive but calculated as well. I was tense as were you one stream. Good fun, I hope you enjoyed it, many of us enjoyed having you over. Cheers.

I for one am glad with ACC sound design, I like the fact that you can hear way more auxillary sounds compared to IRL where you are wearing earplugs, especially the crackle when you lift off.

So true, I find that sims make the 'hard to drive' part a bit too hard. At the end of the day you don't see GT cars spinning out of the pits etc. in real life. But in iRacing and others it's quite common 😂

Would be a dream come true if they can find a way to get rid of that annoying in cockpit engine noise with the help of some good samples. The tone in the Porsche is much more lifelike. And for that loose feeling at slow speed turning, considering the improvements they delivered, release after release, we can only wish for "more and more and more and more". That side by side is awesome! And proof! Finally! You can see that the movements your hands make on the real life steering wheel vs sim wheel looks exactly the same. That is the test! I knew you would prove it! We non real life drivers do not really know if what we are feeling and doing would be the same RL. Just so that we know what it takes.

How is that your take? That's exactly what he was pointing out was most different. They do not look exactly the same at all, he says in the video itself that real life allows much more correction and movement.

Nice Video David ! The feeling you said at the last two corners where you had to do the V line and late apex was exactly wut I thought earlier, I had watched lots of onboard and your previous onboard at this track, and I also try to replicate your real-life line perfectly, but after a conclusion, I could say the Mercedes sometimes does these two corners better than Ferrari in ACC, probably the Mercedes setup of turning is a bit lazy and sluggish while Ferrari is much more sensitive in rotation, and my current thought is to reduce the stiffness of the front damper, and lower the steer ratio , hope I can get it more closer to your onboard line💪

Thanks mate, in real life we cannot change the steering ratio so I prefer to keep that as is in the game. In terms of the Merc: In real life it also dominates around this track as it has superior torque compared to the Fezza. Thanks for the comment.

Oh man, this was my favourite car/track combo in ACC ever since it came out in early access. I could never get the times close to real life because the curbs were so brutal back then. Thanks a lot for the guide! PS. When you talk about not being able to 'feel grip' in sims: The only two that I've felt have actually rendered grip feel adequately in game are rFactor 2 and KartKraft. Both amazing FFB engines. With ACC I feel like I'm driving an ice-skating tank, even on the newest versions.

I find the chicane in the Ferrari is a bit of a lottery with a more aggressive set up in ACC, sometimes you ride it ok, other times you are launched into Austria for taking the seemingly same line. - Also, the game is very strict on track limits.

Hi David, awesome video! Watching the comparison it seems like in real life you can trust way more the grip, particularly mid turn. In ACC if you enter too fast or too slow in a corner, you either understeer or can't rotate the car fast enough or the game will punish you and you have to be really careful and smooth with the steering, while in real life it seems like you have more space to play with (like being more aggressive with the steering input). What do you think about that? :)

From what I can hear, ACC sounds more 3D, in that they sampled all the engine and other sounds in stereo. It gives the cabin an ever so slightly reverby sound. Your onboard camera is in mono, I'm pretty sure, and so will not convey those minute details you would hear in real life

From what I know they haven't put a mic inside a 488 yet. A lot of the sounds you hear in the Ferrari came from onboards I shared with them. I would love to stick a 3D mic in the car for them to use though.

Awesome video. Hungaroring is such a fun track i often just drive various cars on there in the evening, when i don't feel like MP racing. Managed a 46.9 as my best last night actually. But anything in the 47's is good for me there. I am quite intrigued why the ingame sound has that blowback popcornsound (M8 as well has very loud valve sound) while you don't hear it, like at all onboard? Any chance you will do some community racing on ACC on a managable server size (30 max or so)?

Hey Dave! I am very interested in performance psychology and I was wondering if you, as a racing driver, do mental training for improving your focus or skills for example. Are there techniques you know of that can improve your focusing abilities or do you think a person needs to be naturally strong minded in order to become a racing driver?

Hey mate, I spend a huge amount of time thinking about the psychology of competing. I think it's like any sport at a high level, you have to have a good mental game to be competitive. What I've found that's unique to motorsport (and maybe also Golf) is that your event is not just one day. The emotional rollercoaster starts on Friday during FP1. The highs and lows over a race weekend are incredible and if you're not used to it, or don't have the mental fortitude, you'll arrive exhausted on race day. So to combat that you first need to be as self aware as possible so that you can manage the stress and pressure. I've read a lot of books about this stuff the best one being "Endure" by Alex Hutchinson and "The Core" by Aki Hintsa. Those two are my bibles.

Seems the 488 is very sketchy in ACC, it wants to spin very quickly. Wish it had more confidence like in other sims. I have yet to master the car in ACC. Love your video though, keep it comin!!

ACC sounds seem a few pitches higher than the RL Ferrari but i guess it's very hard to get it exact but probably doesn't need to be bang on.

It’s a pity the brake telemetry doesn’t work in RL footage. Braking correctly I think is 80% of the lap time (once you know the track)

That's true but to be fair, even when that brake indicator works it still doesn't show the same level of detail you see in sim games or the real data we get from the car.

GTsport needs to sit down and have a convo with real racing drivers like you. When your car touches an apex in GTsport with too much throttle you spin out.. or when you see fastest laps in an Audi R8 drifting through every turn is stupid and needs to be fixed

What? Aliens can do 1'43s! I can barely do 1'49s consistantly in the GT-R! I'm going through Career Mode atm and I find that if I want to push harder, it slides around more and goes past max grip level and the rear end slides out. I use the default dry setups. Must be a I can't drive.

Simply because the sensor doesn't work with the onboard camera. And since we have the detailed data, we don't need to see those inputs in the onboard anyway.

although the ACC engine sounds are a bit overdone, I'd love for GT Sport to be more 'alive' here and there, especially when going over curbs. Which should be a bit more unforgiving in GTS as well

I think GT Sport have done a very good job with engine noise but the auxiliary stuff could be improved, no question about that. Gearbox, curb strikes and (big one) braking could do with some sound. Question is how much of that is limited by the PS4 processors? Let's see what GT7 brings.
