Don't know about Indian, but in American English it can be pronounced as 'raaut' as well as "root"......I came to know this in the Netflix series "Stranger things"!

That is the correct way to say it. I’ll still pronounce it as “root” if I’m talking about the highways but if I’m talking about a “paper route” or “running a route” I’ll say it correctly

Looking at all you non-Indians:😂 The accent that you have heard from Simpsons and family guy is "one of the Indian accents". Or the southern India accent (because bengaluru is the Indian silicon valley and most of the computer engineers are coming from there - after already coming from IIT madras and these guy were mostly the ones who went to the US and resided there), or the Punjabi accent as there are many Sikhs in America but there are much more in its closest neighbour, Canada. So you think all Indians have the same accent.😂 And its so weird since America, a country that has a smaller population than India, itself has so many accents. For eg, southern will be different from someone from Mississippi (you get the idea). How can you be so naive to believe that the "Indian" accent you have heard is the "national accent of India" 😂 Similar to the US, Indians have different accents too. North Indian, punjabi, south Indian, gujarati have a different accent, kannada have a different one. Delhi people have a different accent which probably resembles but still is different from marathi people in Mumbai. The simpson/family guy Indian accent is based on just a parody which is hilarious to us Indians (I mean it. We love it). But you know what's even more hilarious? The west believing that ALL Indians have this same accent. 😂
