@ShamrockNRoller4 жыл бұрын
Perfect comment. I couldn't agree more. I'm from central Indiana, but now I'm having to live in southern Indiana, and it's horrible here. Everyone around me wants to be Southern so bad, but this is a Midwestern state that fought for the North in the Civil War. They're all rude, mean, and stupid here, so they fit MUCH better with the South than the North.
@warreneckels49453 жыл бұрын
Neat! Which Hoosier accent? The I-69 accent from Indy northeast to Fort Wayne? (Granted, that part of the state believes that it _is_ the Hoosier state and that South Bend, Gary, Terre Haute and Evansville are imposters.) Or maybe it's one of the five along I-65 from Gary to Lafayette: The Gary area is the boundary between Chicago Urban and northern Midwest/Great Lakes, which then turn briefly to Appalachian along the Kankakee to North Midlands until you reach Greater Lafayette, where North Midlands and General American dominate, then back to North Midlands with pockets of South Midlands. General American dominates in Indianapolis from downtown north to the suburbs.

I was born and raised for the most part in Alabama, so a southern state. I have a Hoosier accent without a doubt, but my sister has more of a "Southern drawl". My boyfriend is from Indiana and so is his mom. His younger sisters are born in the Georgia, where I am currently living, and they have the same accent as my sister. I know it is common to have your accent change after moving, but I rarely see or hear of anyone born in an area with an accent that is for another region

LOL! Born and raised in 'accentless' Elkhart Indiana! Hey everyone, are we nasal enough for you?? :) :) I've lived most of my adult life in Illinois, so my accent has softened a lot. Now I live in Indianapolis, which is a weird experience--it's really a somewhat Southern town culturally, but with a northern accent. I lived in New Orleans for a time too (N'AW-lins as the locals say). For a time after I moved back, I'd occasionally get an odd look and realize that I had just said 'Ah neoh' instead of 'I know'. But I never said 'Wheh y'at'? instead of 'how are ya?'

this is something ive noticed in myself, especially with us having such a neutral accent. when i lived in florida for a year, i definitely started picking up more of the slur even though it was quicker. im in colorado, i can get a bit of a not-draw, idk how to put it. wyoming gave me the same thing. but when i go home and speak with my buddies, ill notice them slowly pick it up. i feel like we get this propper goofy country accent. now, i hate it, but i have transitioned to soda. but even then, it depends on who im talking to.

I'm a Hoosier born and raised in northeast Indiana, but my mom's side of the family is from Ol' Virginie, so we all have mixed accents. That fits Indiana anyway since our state is a melting pot within a melting pot. Indiana is far more cosmopolitan than pop culture thinks we are. Definitely not a closed-off society (because then we wouldn't be the Crossroads of America). I like to think of us as The Shire and our people are very Hobbit-like (minus the Hobbit tendency toward closed-mindedness). 2:29 More generally known as a pill bug. Technically, they're crustaceans.

I feel like the differences could've been clearer if they'd read the words to camera without hearing each other and then react to the recordings after .. maybe they could've even first talked to someone who shares their accent to imprint it a bit more (my parents are from different accented regions but lived their adult lives in the city and while they usually don't have accents I've noticed they switch to it when talking to family back home on the phone without even realising)
