Afraid of getting Stuck in English Conversations? Do this.

These days I say, "what's the word I'm looking for here" out loud so the listener knows I'm searching for the right word. I have mixed feelings about bringing it to the attention of the listener that I'm struggling to find the right word but more often than not this strategy has helped reduce some anxiety.

@@AnasAns-lh1vs hi Anna, thank you, I took some classes about year and a half in a community college and then I’ve been studying English by my self here in KZbin channel almost every day. Watching videos and movies only in English with subtitles and now I’m trying without subtitles. Sometimes I read books or magazines. You can try it, that helps you a lot 😊

Oh, Hadar that happened to me at the TOEFL exam last year during the first task! i felt awful like i blew up the whole thing and I was panicked 😰but somehow i managed to perform the other tasks and got 24 in speaking and a total of 99!🙂

When I get stuck during English conversation I immediately find this word in Spanish (as well not my native language). It is kind of using two languages together. Sometimes it helps as there could be somebody who also speaks Spanish, or some words in English and Spanish quiet similar.

one of the things that makes me stuck in speaking English is my anxiety issue and the fear that I will not be able to perform well. that's when I realized I needed to work on my anxiety issues.😁

When I’m stuck and can’t find a word, I do the same thing as in my native language, I use a paraphrase.

Hi Hadar, When I get stuck I always try to rephrase what I'm saying and once I said it I go to rhe diccionary and look up the word. I don' like to be in doubt😮

This feels wrong Hadar. I understand you need to keep working and showing up not only for yourself but also for your family and your students around the world yet… not a single post about those being slaughtered in Gaza, not a single word about the children. We shan’t use our voices, what for? We shall forget, ignore, and continue with our day to day activities I’m afraid? Because what else can we do? It’s devastating 😔

I understand your frustration, and your expectation of me as a content creator. I have other SM platforms where I have shared my thoughts and opinions about what’s happening, but I have never used KZbin for that and have no intention to, since talking about this in video is practically impossible for Me. Since October 7th my life has completely turned upside down, and I’m still mourning every single day. As an Israeli my views are complex and I feel excruciating pain for both sides, but I’m also dealing with personal trauma and I can’t take on the responsibility of sharing what has been happening. There are better channels that do that every single day. The world seems to expect people to choose one side and share its story but I’m not going to do that. I have friends and family in Israel who lost loved ones on October 7th. I had to leave my home for weeks so my daughters wouldn’t have to live with sirens and missile attacks every day. I have friends and students who live in Gaza and I’m worried sick about them. And they’ve lost friends and family. No matter what I share - I would have to navigate the backlash of not choosing one side. And that is not Something I’m ready to do here. I can only say that when I find the right way to do that, I will.
