Long time ago I learned Access 2000. And THAT had a lot of stuff in it. Took me a few years to learn about 3/4 of the things it could do (self-taught), so I imagine 2016 has a ton more. I actually loved learning how to create a database. It also showed me all about forms and how to design them, and how to create drop-down menus, dialog boxes, links, shape and move objects around, hover tips, create parameters in form fields....amazing stuff.

Thank you so much! I am learning Access to help make sense out of my chaos and the books I have don't seem to get down to basics! I was so frustrated thinking, "HOW DO I ADD ACTUAL INFORMATION to the database???!!!" You gave me just what I needed. I've taken notes (because I know I'll forget) on my ipad as you're instructing and getting ready to head to your second video. Again, thank you!!!!!!!

To re-size all field names at once, first select the entire table by clicking the very top left cell. Then double click in between any of the field name cells and the table will re-size all fields to fit the names. No need to manually drag the cells.

I am trying to make a Database for partnumbers. And right now I have a form for each table. And I was wondering if I could use one form for all tables? The part numbers have a format of 88-XXXX to 106-XXXX and I want to have the first two-three digit number assign where the part number goes in the tables.

When changing the Case_Status Field name from Short Text to Lookup using the Lookup Wizard. I do as the video does but when I go to save the Database I get a "Type Mismatch" Error in the default Value. Cant figure out a way around it and thus the Case_Staus field remains Short Text

In access the formulas or the computations refers to the enter columns, not specific cells(fields). You can only use Col A plus Col B. In excel you can input formula in a single cell in which the components are located in a different row. ex: in cell A1=B1 + B2 or A1 = C2 + B3. If you copy cell A1 and paste it on cell range A1 to A10, this will paste the formula to each cell from A1 to A10 with each cell's related components in the formula. Is this possible in access?

Thank you so much for these videos. I am in the Air Force and though they supply us with the whole Office Professional with all of these shiny tools, we are never trained and stuck using excel for everything we do. I started watching your videos and in 4 days I've already created a pretty useful database and am trying to do more with it. I have a question if you would be so nice to answer. I have 3 tables, one of the tables loads from an outside source. I import an excel spreadsheet every time i need to update it basically. The other 2 tables are static and rarely change. I have three queries to give me 3 values. The 3 values are the count of basically 3 count-ifs statements. What I need to be able to do is to use these 3 values at the same time so that i can do math with them. ie % of tasks completed, etc... Do you know a way? Right now, I use these queries to get the data, then use excel to manipulate it, but I feel like I should be able to automate it. This is important because I am the only one in my shop that understands what is going on with the database right now and I need to dumb it down to press and button and it gives you the answer for the rest of my shop. Thanks again.
