There;'s no enable macro feature anymore - it's called event procedure and it opens you up into VBA (macro) and you have to figure out the language, etc. I don't see an easy way to do it.

+canefan17, I had the same issue, but I researched online and found the following code that will work once the VBA window opens up with the dialog box asking for code/prompts. DoCmd.Close acForm, "Add_Case", acSaveYes The code was generic, and I simply added "Add_Case" to follow along with this video. Based on the video's example, you'll want to enter that code in between the lines that read "Private Sub Command8_Click( )" and "End Sub". Save it, return to Access, and switch to Form View. Key in the info., and press Save. The form should automatically close, but be sure to click the Refresh All from the Home tab, or close and reopen the ticket_tracker_table, so you can see your the information you just keyed. I hope this helps!

I am struggling with a insert query StrQuery = "insert into journal (date, act1,act2, amount,narration) values (#8/23/2021#,'cash a/c','bank a/c',5000,'being cash dream from bank');" Shows issue into 'INSERT INTO' STATEMENT. Tried inserting without date field and value, it executed, ad the row was added. So issue is in date field value.

Best two tutorials that I have found that do not use a company name & produce. I have other uses for mine such as a data base of published books. Used to use Access ages ago and so many changed have been made, I no longer remember how to set up or use a query. So this first tutorial certainly looked promising. Hey, I have be following you on access 2016 a while now. My problem is I can't get the command wizard to function for entering stuff. I'm at the end of the rope with this one. Once I enter stuff to go to next record it does nothing. You use command button. I try to do same thing and nothing. It does button but no function. I need your help big time. For the date the form is filed, can you also list it so it displays the exact time in minutes that the form was filed? (i.e 6:46PM)

I haven't yet figured out how to make it display the mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss AM/PM Date/Time format; however, I have found that by using a new field (with the data type set to Date/Time), you can display the exact time by setting the Default Value in the field properties to Time() instead of Date(), then click the Format dropdown and select long time (hh:mm:ss AM/PM, i.e. 6:46:52 PM), medium time (hh:mm AM/PM, i.e. 6:46 PM), or short time (hh:mm, i.e. 18:46 [24 Hour format]). Hope this helps.

Hi, I was able to enter data in forms and it reflected in ticket_tracker_table as well . However, after creating/recording macro whereby clicking 'save' button will close the form, when i clicked 'save', although the form gets closed but the record does not appear in table. I did manually enter my choices on the Lookup Wizard under the Data Entry. You had 2 choices and I typed in all the choices. So when I was looking at my Table and entered some data the drop down box was complete with all my choices I typed in. But when I'd go to my form one of the form fields was incomplete. The other 2 form fields were alright, just that one. Weird.

Hi! So I have to this database for my job, and they want me to work with this form that students need to complete online like in a pdf file or other type of forms format. They want that the information that the students complete there to go directly to the database. Do you know how this works? So far I used the Access 2016 to make the database tables. I know that they have already an PDF file for the form but I don't know if the only or best way to get the data there will be by making the form here. I would love some advice haha

How would you go about designing a database for a home library?? For example I have over over 1000 books in my library, and I am constantly purchasing seconds or thirds because I forget what I have on my many shelves. Would love to be able to build database where it shows, Book Title, Author, Edition, Publisher, Year Published, Book Condition, Book Category (eg: Health) an Sub Category (eg. Aromatherapy) and the ISBN number. Would also love for the database to have a central search function where I can search the database by entering a book title and it will show if this book has been coded into the database, or if I search author, it will pop up a list of all books by that author, etc. Even having access to a book profile view where if I select an option near the book title, it will give that books details on one page, including area to lay notes, a picture of the book, etc.

Ultimately, its really an inventory database you describe. So even though it is for personal use and specifically books, the mechanics are the same. So up to this point in the series I have covered how to add records to a table (ie you bought a new book). In the next few videos I review Queries which is the search functionality you describe and Reports which allows you to see search results in a user friendly format.

None of the info it seem in how to deal with Forms makes sense to me or works. There is no way in Forms to view previous entries and the Forms lack a lot of basic functionality. I've gone thru Access 20016 training, first 4 modules and it has not helped me .. I need someone to look at what I have and fix it or make it work like should be! Thanks . .

It is functioning how it should according to this amazing video. however, I am trying to make it where previous records, are displayed in the form and the end users have the ability to see only the form and nothing else. Again, I want previous records to be seen using the "navigation arrows" at the bottom left. Is there a way I can do this?

When I add my record and enter "Save Record" it goes blank. So if I want to enter a 2nd record, I have to open the form again. Is there a way that the form can save the entry and let you go onto the next entry without reopening the form again?

Yes!!!! I just figured it out. Reset the macro and pick RecordsGotoNext. The record will be saved and the form will go blank w/o closing the window. Hope it helps!

Not certain. Make sure the table is closed because Access has a way of not refreshing tables if they are open.

There's a button under the "Home" tab that says "Refresh All". Hit that and see if it doesn't populate on your table.

Also, one of the properties for a field in a record is "allow multiple values" or similar and by default is "no." If your form is adding a record to a table and one of the fields "x" in that table were not allowing multiple values, you couldn't save more than one record to the table with the same value in field "x." if that's not clear... say your table is employee schedules. you make a field for employee name and you use lookup wizard to connect employee name to an employee directory. directory has Bob and Tom. you do not go out of your way to change default property of this field to "allow multiple values." you make and use a form to enter a schedule for Tom. you use the same form to add another schedule for tom and hit save. if you made the save button like in this tutorial, I believe it wouldn't save but it still would close.

I was never more frustrated with Access till this last weekend. Everything seemed to be going along great. I created a table where on 3 of the 6 fields I used a Lookup Wizard at the very bottom under “Data Entry” to create a drop down box. These drop down boxes are essential as data is easily entered. I learned this trick from watching another KZbin video. When I created my form I used your video to create my form, which worked really well. I even added a button like you to add the data into the table. So yesterday while I was entering data I noticed on the form, under one of the fields that has a drop down box, some of the data is missing. The last 7 items that can be picked were totally missing on the form, but when you go to the table, and select the appropriate field for a new entry, the data is all there. The table has a correct drop down box, but on the form the drop down is incomplete. So not knowing how to fix this problem the logical choice was to delete the form and start over. But not knowing if the problem would persist into the new form I opted to delete both the form and the table and start over. How does this happen?

I thought about this and I really can't think of a reason why. You have confirmed the source for the drop down box is indeed the table with all the choices and not the table with the lookup wizard? And you did not manually enter your choices in the dropdown box?

Is there a way to make multiple forms which follow on from one another in such a way that the subsequent form is more specific to information provided in the first form? Example: injury database for a retail store with multiple franchises. So first form is general information on incident and you fill in which franchise it occured at. Then submit and a second form automatically opens which is more specific for that particular franchise. Thanks!

There are a few ways to do that. Might be simpler for the first form to create the new record in the table and then the user opens the second form and selects the record that was just created from a combo/dropdown box. The combo box would effectively act as a queue showing only the new records that need the additional information.

The simplest way is simply change the database file extension from accdb to accdr. This has the added benefit of also shutting off the ribbon along the top. The downside is it disables right click functionality.

Hello, I hope you can help me. I've been creating a video game concept for the last two years, using only pen and paper. I'm currently in possession of so many notebooks and binders dedicated to this project, their stored within two large book cases. I've been searching for something that I can use to not only store, but to manage, organize, catalog, list, link, etc. etc. all the possible information written for my project. I thought a database was what I was searching for, but many videos have me questioning that. I wish to know, what should I or can I use to do the task that I need done, that is free?

Not sure what the best approach would be because no matter what you do there seems to be a massive amount of data entry you would have to perform to transcribe your notes into a digital repository. Wonder if just scanning them into pdfs would be best. Then you could have a Word document with hyperlinks to the pdfs. That would reduce data entry and provide the linkage you need.

@@designanddeploy5991 Sadly I have no way to scan them. I don't mind typing them all out, at least I'd have them more organized, that's my main concern. The amount of time needed to do so, isn't the issue, finding a way to do it is the issue. I need a way to organize and manage damage types, weapon types, weapon names, items, enemy factions, enemy ranks, named enemies, status conditions, skills, powers, player stats, armor sets, etc. etc. you get the basic idea I believe. So what would be the program that I'm looking for? Like I said, I don't mind typing it all out, just want to get it started. I appreciate you helping me with this, I've been looking for at least a couple weeks.

I really wanted to use Access to create my own personnel database. It's a really simple table and form. My table has been created and after watching Part 2 on how to create a form I thought I had it licked. I did everything according to your video on how to create a form and adding a button to submit your entry to the table. When I click on my submit button the entry doesn't populate the table. I went into the macro like you did and closed form after clicking on submit, however when I go into the table nothing is there. When I created the form and tried it out for the first entry, it worked. But subsequent entries won't populate. Can anyone help

Leslie Houser, I'm not sure if you got yours fixed but I had the exact same problem. I'm not exactly sure how this worked but what I did was save record, save the whole database, then switched to my table. At first it did not appear but when I tried to change my table view to design view I got a pop up box that read that my table was open by another user. It asked if I wanted to open the table as read only and I clicked yes. Once I opened the table back up under Data sheet view, the new record appeared. But now there is a problem of not being able to edit the table in Design View. Not sure if that is a problem for you but I hope this helps.

He thinks the form is like an online data base, kinda like a search engine but isn't this limited to the main access data base? Isn't the form just a duplicate of your access data sheet right? When you create the form, you specify the data source, such as a table. So in short the form just gives structure to data entry.
