It took me 28 years to be diagnosed with hashimotos disease. It wasn’t until I paid to have a series of ultrasounds done at a health fair in Florida that they turned up nodules on my thyroid. My doctor ignored the first report and three years later I had another set of tests in Florida and my nodule had increased in size. My doctor then ordered the whole battery of tests that showed I had an autoimmune disorder. Three years later I had my thyroid and parathyroid glands removed. I had previously talked to my doctor about my heart palpitations and she put me on blood pressure pills. I have found that doctors have little to no knowledge of autoimmune disorders. You must be your own advocate and do your own research.

A Emily Clarke. Glad to hear that you found it. I've had it my whole life, actually. But was only 11 years old when then 1st diagnosed me with it. I remember how my whole body would change like a yo-yo. I was say, 118lbs today, & the week or 2 after that, i was already 180lbs. Then I'd drop to 145lbs say, & go back up to 175, & up & down. I never stayed the same weight for long. When I was heaftier, I barely had an appetite, was way more depressed, felt exhausted & had no energy what so ever to do things. It took me forever to do things, because I felt like I hadn't slept in weeks or months even. I was out of breath quickly, & had no grip to my hands off & on a lot too. Depending on my level of fatigue, etc... I was always an extremely shy person, & I'd get nervous easily, & dealing with this internal yo-yo state 24-7-365 for years, just added to my nervousness. You have many who think that you eat to much this, or that, etc... & that's why you're the size that you are. Yet, I was a kid who was everywhere when I was young. All over the place where we lived. It was such a small town, you were lucky if there were 25 houses on the 1 side of our town alone. That's how small this town is. I was everywhere, & yet, I'd still gain weight, without changing anything, then lose the same way. Without changing anything. It's been a real headache my whole life. Not being able to keep a normal weight. My Mom's favorite way of describing this problem of mine is, I just look at food & gain 50lbs, & eat all that I want & lose that much or more. I've been 118lbs at 18 years old or even 120lbs at 20 years old, & while doctors told me that I was a good weight for my height (5'3); I honestly felt sick. I felt dangerously thin. I felt like an anorexic girl. As much as it may thin out my largest areas between my waist & knees where I bulge the most, it also took more from my ribs where they were all bones & just sticking out more. Nothing covering them. Not healthy looking at all. I'm a very big boned person, & therefore, doctors think 120 is great when in fact, my body says otherwise. It says, I can weigh between 140 to 160 & I'm fine. With 150 being my ideal weight. But anything below or above those numbers feels like death to my body. That's why I stick to whatever I know about myself, & have always said that I know myself way too well to have a doctor that doesn't take what I say seriously. I already know what my do's & don'ts are weight wise, food wise, etc... I just can't treat myself as they can. If they don't want to co-operate. Nothing I can do about that. Thyroid problems can cause any disease in existence. Don't let anyone tell you any different. My Grandma's battle with it going undetected until the last 2 years of her nearly 73 years of life, said it all. Hope this helps you some. Take care & all the best. :)

I’ve had Graves for first 40 years and my endocrinologist did a heap of blood test I’ve never had before. He came up with hashimoto’s disease as well. My immune system is attacking my thyroid and pancreas. Instead of type 2 diabetes, he said I have T1. Very different meds now. Would recommend seeing an endocrinologist rather than staying with limited knowledge of GP
@vibhaspalding64572 жыл бұрын
Lorraine, yes I shall ask my gp today, if I can see endocrinologist. I have been hypo for well over 30 years. I was on 175mcg levothyroxin. By diet and supplements, I reduced this to 100mcg in 2019. Now trying again from January. So have turmeric tea with black pepper and a teaspoon if coconut oil (recommended by utube ayurvedic) . This actually raised my cholesterol to 5.7. I was under 5 before. Now out of gours gp told me that I should ask my gp to recommend endocrinologist if I would like to heal my hypothyroid. So this is what I shall do today. My thyroid may have shrunk, so maybtake a while. I am not allowed coconut oil by my dietician. Will continue with turmeric tea without coconut oil.

@ Lorrane. I can relate to what you & many others are saying here. My maternal Grandmother had many health issues, which made her a hard patient to both diagnose & treat. Her thyroid played like a yo-yo: going from too high, to too low, & up & down like that for many years. Her weight fluctuated like that, as well as her appetite, etc... By the time they diagnosed her with it, she was a year or 2 away from the end of her life (about 70 years old). She had had this issue since she was in her 40s if not younger, & it was too late in her life to be able to treat her problem. By then, it caused many other health problems: kidney disease, Types 1 & 2 Diabetes, Gangrene, Arthritis, Lactose Intolerance, Heart Problems (her heart would skip a beat so they put in a pacer), Celiac Disease, Food Allergies & Sensitivities, etc.... She couldn't eat cruciferous vegetables because they would cause seizures in her. She also had severe Calcium Deficiency & had Osteoporosis, she had extremely low Vitamin B Levels too. She was low in all of her B Vitamins. Not just B12. When her sugar levels played, it would cause seizures in her. And her blood pressure also played, & would get so low, it would put her in a coma. So, yes. It's possible to be like my Grandma & suffer from both TYPES 1 & 2 Diabetes at the same time. One part of the day she'd start out high, then it would drop. They skyrocket, then drop again. And up & down it would go. It was very frustrating for her & hard to get the proper treatment for it. They weren't as familiar with what to do for her then. Especially, someone like her with too many problems at once. What was good for her thyroid problems, really threw off her diabetes, & vice versa. It was a never ending challenge. Hopefully, tell everyone this will help out some. Take care & all the best. :)

In 1983 I had my first baby, three years later by chance by a GP who had also had it as a medical student, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and admitted to hospital for three weeks it was chronic and took a long time to stabilise and bring my heart rate down. I then also suffered with one eye enlargement my weight dropped significantly my anxiety, panic attacks and hands shook, my heart rate and muscle strength was extreme. In 1994 I had my fourth baby and had post natal depression. By 1995 graves returned each time after each three more babies. After my fourth baby the doctor thought I should stop breast feeding and take anti depressants and thyroid disease medication. That made me feel even worse. By 1998 my thyroid symptoms were recurring. Then by 2008 after a lot of stress, anxiety and depression my hyperthyroidism turned into Hashimoto hypothyroidism.At 58 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia another under diagnosed condition I’d lived with symptoms since I was a child. All in all I have lived with autoimmune disease both hyper and hypo for 38 years. At 63 I still suffer with symptoms trying to regulate and adjust my medication is tricky. Taking thyroxine doesn’t cure the disease it treats the disease and controls it but is volatile, hormone changes, viruses, menopause, periods all affect dose and the impact and changes can take time to show up in a blood test or not show up. It is a fickle and insidious disease. To live a life with your body under constant attack is hard. I took up qigong, practice yoga and Pilates, lift weights, walk, meditate practice mindfulness and went vegetarian then vegan three years ago, I eat very low gluten, grains or high glycemic carbs, low sugar and fast. It’s a lifestyle change and a constant battle. My experience’s with the medical profession has been a struggle, ignorance, tunnel vision and stupid comments. My advice is do as much research for yourself and try, try and try again. Stress is a killer so be aware of how to combat it. Lifestyle past, present and future all need to be factored into your personal journey. Wellness is mind and body listen to what both are telling you. Look in the mirror and love yourself 💜

I am 13 and was diagnosed with hashimotos disease about 5 months ago, but the weird thing is I never noticed any symptoms, except fatigue. I was always tired, I slept in class and slept about 15 to 17 hours a day. I never thought it was weird, I was just tired, but then my mom noticed how swollen my neck looked, then my moms friend thought it was a goiter. I was so confused I had no clue what they were talking about, so of course I asked and they told me all about it. I remember my friend and I joking about how it made since I had hyperthyroidism because of how thin I was, but little did I know it was not that. One day I began feeling sick and missed a couple days of school, so my mom made me go to the doctor. So, I went and they checked me out, but then my mom pointed out my throat and my doctor confirmed it could be a goiter. So, they took my blood (I cried) to test the hormone levels and then I left. A couple days later my mom got a call, saying I had hashimotos and I wanted graves because I would lose weight, but looking back now I know that was foolish. I’ve actually had a cancer scare, they had to do a ultrasound of my thyroid to see if it was cancerous and I was terrified. Luckily, it was not cancer and I’ve been doing much better. I’m take my medicine (synthyroid) and I’ve been doing much better in school. Also, now that I’ve been through this I’ve decided when I grow up I want to be a pediatric endocrinologist because I can relate to the kids and really help them. I’m just happy I caught it early. P.S. this is not a beg of attention, I just wanted to share my story and thank you for taking the time to read it.😘

I am very close to being 20, I was diagnosed at 10. While us having to deal with it so young can be so frustrating sometimes, with all of the appointments and stuff; we are very fortunate to catch it so early and can work to help it early on. I also had no idea, and I don't even think anyone in my life thought so (even though my mom has always had it too), we had just gone to the doctors because I was having sharp pains on the side of my neck, under my jaw. It was so random, and they drew my blood to see what was up and sure enough, I had hashimoto's. I had an ultrasound on my thyroid when I was like 15 (I don't quite remember why) but I just kept calling it my little neck baby 😂 While I still struggle with fatigue the most, everything really has been okay. Hashimoto's doesn't rule my life. You'll be alright, I bet you'll be more than alright, I bet that you'll thrive in life. Just always remember that it is perfectly okay to take time for yourself if you're fatigued or something and it's a bit much; it can happen sometimes, even with the medication and sometimes it is hard to deal with but regardless, things will work out 😊💚 I wish you nothing but happiness and success in life.

I am almost 65 & only recently discovered that illnesses such as thyroid disease are often caused by narcissistic abuse. This very well could have been the case, & cause, for my condition. I was born into a family of complete narcissistic vampires & suffered the garbage they threw at me for some 60 years, (as they started early on the "baby"). I am in process of researching this presently. I've dealt with copious amounts of anxiety coming from a "battle royal" home life. Always physically healthy, it all hit in my later years & I'm far from being healthy now. The medical doctors are useless, for the most part. I have quite distanced my self from the narcissistic vampire relatives as well as so called friends. I live alone; much better than having to be in a constant battle with abusers. I also suffer IBS, acid reflux, & other disorders. If any of you have abusive relatives, get rid of them NOW & never be with them again. Your heart, mind, body, & even your inner spirit will thank you for it, although you have to continue to fight the disease within. And, yes, I have PTSD, too. But, this is possibly the beginning of a healing journey.🙏

The most important exam that triggered the parathyroid\thyroid disease for me was a calcium test. The parathyroid and thyroid test were a little abnormal and brushed off by physicians but they would not run ALL the testing at once which caused many health problems due to physicians delaying testing.. . Started having kidney stones and a great smart doctor ran the calcium test and it was off the charts because my body was throwing off all the calcium and causing stones. By this time, I had already lost about 30 pounds in 30 days and continuing to lose about a pound a day and my muscle tissue deteriorated so much could not walk at all and now in a wheelchair and cant walk. Then by that stage, over a year later, diagnosed with hyper-parathyroidism and hyper-thyroidism and graves disease. All caused from more than a year of being misdiagnosed and delayed testing.. Insurance dictates what tests are run and since the "affordable" care system was implemented, physicians do not run all the tests they should be running and piece-milling tests over appointments that stretch out over a year which caused more damage due to returning every 3 months for more blood testing. Before the new healthcare system, docs were not afraid to run lots of testing at once. The new healthcare system is the reason for my disability! Because insurance paper pushers dictate our lives!

@ J. I can relate to that. I had multiple health issues growing up. The worst of them was my severe Epilepsy due to a crushed right temporal lobe that the doctor gave me when he delivered me. From 3 months on, I was having seizures. In March 1996, I went to London, Ontario, here in the province & they told me that the Epilepsy was caused by this injury. no doubt about it. They ran tests that proved it. MRIs, & all. They also told me that the main cause of my seizures was definitely my Epilepsy. BUT! It wasn't the ONLY CAUSE of them. They said that anyone who had Magnesium Levels & All my B Vitamin Levels as dangerously low as me, would be taking seizures for sure. Even a non-epileptic person. He said that I'd have to watch my levels of them for life. He also said the same about my thyroid problems & Iodine levels as well. They too, were way off & were causing me many seizures as well. He said that the majority of my seizures were caused by the Epilepsy, yes. But the rest were caused by the other problems he mentioned. I was shocked to hear him say that. Only because for years, I used to tell my Mom the exact same thing. And when I went there to see them about what they could do about the Epilepsy issue, that's exactly what they said. The doctors were treating me all wrong throughout my life. They were too busy giving me anti-convulsant meds for the Epilepsy. Instead of taking me off of them for good once they noticed no change what so ever in the amount of seizures that I was having. He said that they should've been treating my thyroid problems, pituitary problems, parathyroid problems, etc... instead of the Epilepsy. They said I was in dire need of hormone treatment, way more than I was these Anti-Convulsant Meds. I had osteoporosis at 16, was lactose intolerant by age 16 (diagnosed that is), but, had problems with milk products as young as 10 or so years old. I was never diagnosed with Gluten Sensitivity, but, know that I am since the age of 20 or so. Yet, when I think back to when I was as young as 6 or so when I tried my Mom's whole wheat, rye, & pumpernickel breads, which made me very sick afterwards. I now realize that I most likely was gluten sensitive my whole life, actually. I never could eat whole wheat, dark chocolate, etc... due to the fact that they're not refined foods. Anything that's too condensed or too pure like Whole Wheat is vs White Bread, are the kinds of foods that I never could tolerate. I'd get bloating, swelling throughout my ribcage, waist & belly button areas, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, migraine headaches, extreme itchiness, a rash from tp to bottom of both arms & legs, sore joints, severe nausea, indigestion, & fatigue. I felt & looked like I ate way too much & couldn't even get up or bend down to put your shoes on. It swelled & cause such pain. I'd have so much acid that it felt like it would take the whole month to rid me of it all. So not comfortable for a kid in school at any age, or for any adult at any age, either. So, yes. Don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong about your health, ever. Because, I went the 1st 11 years of my life without ever being diagnosed with thyroid problems. Yet, generations ago, they called thyroid problems an old ladies disease. Yet, I was 11 diagnosed, but, had symptoms as young as 4 or 5 years old. So, their statistics back then were totally off. In my family, both my parents have an older sister with thyroid problems, my Maternal Grandma had it, & I too, have it, amongst a few others in the family. So far, most of us are women with it. But, a cousin of mine was told that he has it too. So, it's something to keep in mind. Not all problems are genetic issues. Multiple things can cause thyroid problems like: trauma, diet, amongst other things other than having a genetic disposition of it. Hope this helps some. Take care & all the best. :)

I made a KZbin video on this. I was told by one endocrinologist that I had Hashimoto’s. For 4 years I took medication [synthroid) for it. I went to another endocrinologist and he said I did NOT have Hashimoto’s. He said that because my symptoms were sudden, I had gotten a subacute thyroiditis event. He took me off all medication. I am now 1 year off all meds and feeling much better. Can’t believe how two different endocrinologist gave me two diagnosis and two treatments.
@KG-lh5zh2 жыл бұрын
@Lace cocoa if no blood work is being done and routine follow up appointments you may want to consider a different endocrinologist if you have options in your area. That is not the norm. I had to be persistent to originally get tested by my pcp b/c I was young but I knew I had a family history. I was correct & once on medication began feeling better. When seemed additional symptoms were more than what pcp could handle found endocrinologist. Had to switch providers when felt, the first was not a good fit. The symptoms are already uncomfortable the person who should help understand & manage them shouldn't make the process more stressful. Best wishes.

I have all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism and all my doctors I’ve seen only run the standard tests and say my thyroid is “normal”. So they won’t run anymore tests. I’m almost 100 lbs overweight and my weight continues to climb even though I only eat one small meal a day. They say calories in calories out. In other words they think I’m over eating. It makes me so angry and upset because I know that I’m telling the truth. I’ve even taken my temperature in the morning before getting out of bed and it’s low every morning between 93.9-96.5 which indicates a thyroid condition. I’ve even told them that I literally feel like I’m dying because I have chest pain and heart palpitations, anxiety, muscle pain and stiffness, muscle spasms in my legs, back and sides. I have insomnia, dry hair, skin and nails. My memory has gotten real bad, I can’t exercise because my body is so tired and it causes more pain to even walk. Now they want to send me to a psychiatrist because they think it’s all in my head. In the mean time, I feel like I’m dying. I’m to the point that I don’t trust any doctors with my health because I feel that they’re only in it for the money. Doctors used to listen to their patients and if they run the standard tests and they came back normal, they would run more tests till they found out what was making their patients sick. Not anymore. Now it’s a pat on the head and send you to a psychiatrist. I’m beyond angry because I can’t find a good doctor anywhere! 😡

Corina Stephenson Sweetie, you need an Endocrinologist. Also, for your losing weight, I’m doing it now because we’re in the same boat, 1 meal a day is the problem. You need to eat a a healthy balance of meals breakfast, lunch, dinner including 3 in between snacks. Eating actually helps you lose weight! Try MyFitnessPal app to track food and any exercise that you can do. Housework is movement and is exercise!! Good luck!
@corinastephenson62684 жыл бұрын
phughesphoto I’ve tried doing 3 balanced meals a day plus healthy snacks in between for 2 weeks and I gained 5 lbs and then went back to eating once a day because I was afraid to see it go up to 20 extra pounds plus. That was a few years ago. Now I’m gaining 5 lbs a month give or take a lb or 2 and my eating habits are the same. I don’t eat junk food, fast food or fried food. I eat one healthy meal for dinner and my weight has gone off the charts and stupid doctors say stupid crap to me; like calories in calories out! I got my blood work done and it says I have metabolic syndrome and that I’m insulin resistant and he says that’s just a suggestion. And my progesterone is real low and my thyroid hormone is on the low side. He says if I eat one meal a day and drink 2 protein shakes a day that I should lose weight. That’s like putting a bandaid on a bad wound and hope it stops the bleeding! In my mind I’m thinking; why don’t you fix the problems so I can lose weight and be healthy. I know if I do the one meal and 2 shakes per day, I’m just going to continue gaining weight until my medical issues are resolved. But the doctors I see just want to keep me sick. I hope your having better luck with your doctors. Thank you for your suggestion on the app, I’ll check it out...👍🏻😌

It’s one of the factors that causes my mental conditions (my genetics are a main contribution). But it mostly effects my weight and trouble of losing weight from what my therapist and mom assume.

I have hypothyroidism since 2009 but when I got ill in 2016 with severe reflux and not being able to eat, and experiencing severe body pain, tilting to one side and only weighed 40kg going into anaphylaxis all the time and lying in hospital. Scope after scope, no cancer found, my mercury filings was instead removed...After that i could slowly start to eat more so after all the years I still only eat a limited amount of vegetables and I can't even have fruit because of fructose and severe sugar allergy, no gluten and not even a drop of milk then my body will burn inside... So I've learned to eat grilled or cooked low carb vegetables. Herbs, grilled chicken that's antibiotics free and that was free roaming, occasionally eggs and pink salmon... And sometimes gluten free oats...As I got stronger in 2018 I started to do exercises and yoga, Pilate's, meditation, do breathing exercises and walk...eventually today, I've learned to take my pro biotic apart from my thyroid meds each morning... Pray and live with gratitude, take a mindful run . i am getting so strong. I run about 5 km ,6 mornings a week, on Saturday I spend in reflection and meditation and love my veggies, oh and rubbing and scrubbing my body with olive or coconut or almond oils...adding a drop of lavender or eucalyptus sometimes. I have also learned again to love life and stay in the present with a attitude of gratitude, I mean recovering from heavy metal poisoning having hypothyroidism does cost inner strength....

Getting a doctor to listen was the real challenge. 2 nodules were discovered in 2017 after a Lifeline Screening. I was also dealing with some physical issues that interfered with work and home. The doctor I had at the time just dismissed it. I was fortunate to get a new GP in 2020 who did the tests, ultrasound and biopsy. It was caught in time, now there are 3 nodules. My numbers were still in the healthy range but it will be addressed. It's a relief to know what is going on with me. Now it can be tackled correctly.

But i always did fine with mine i was nervous the very first time but I've been through it so much it doesn't even bother me now. I have had hypothyroidism (my antibodies have never been tested for, but it is likely due to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis) for over 15 years. When I first had symptoms like extreme fatigue, mild depression, difficulty sleeping, and cold feet, my doctor completely dismissed the symptoms as due to the fact that I was a working mother w/ two young children. My feet were so cold at night, that I had to wear heavy socks. On my own, I started taking my basal metabolic temperature, which is the temperature that your body is at when you first wake in the morning, before you get out of bed. Normal temperature is 97.7 deg. F. My basal temperatures were 92.5 deg.F. The doctor didn’t know what to make of that-literally. He drew another thyroid test, which I believe was the TSH-a sort of indicator test of the thyroid health. It was 6. He said that to be considered hypothyroid, the TSH should be 12 or above. My symptoms grew worse over time. My thinking was foggy and it was very hard to exercise. I gained weight. Finally, a friend sent me to her endocrinologist who said that he could tell I was hypothyroid coming through the door. He tested the TSH, also, but also the thyroid hormones, T4 and T3. T3 is the active one. Both were so low he said they were in the basement. It took a year to get the medication dose right. What really helped my mood a lot was the addition of T3. There are several brand names for these products: Synthroid is a common brand for T4, or levothyroxine. Cytomel is a common brand name for T3, or liiothyronine. I have had to have these doses changed every so often, but my TSH remains low at about 1. My thyroid hormones are much higher-truly “within normal limits.” In modern endocrinology the upper “normal” dose of TSH is 2 not 6, like I was told by my ex-internist. If you are getting thyroid tests done, make sure they tell you the results of not only TSH, but the levels of the thyroid hormones themselves, which can vary as to your situation, but should be at least 6.
@deepattison93293 жыл бұрын
If your TSH is high and the T3 & T4 are low you need a complete workup. You are testing too low when the stimulating hormone is high normal. As with many things in the body one number is insufficient to tell the story. The ratio is needed for a complete picture.

My thyroid right now is swollen about 3x the size it should be. I’m fatigued, depressed, short-tempered (unlike me!), anxiety, weight gain (no reason) choppy night sleep, dry flaky skin, joint stiffness, extra aches&pains, no energy, no motivation, sallow complexion, cold much of the time….too much to write out. Chronic nerve pain on top of all of this. Plus recent big toe amputation from blood clot.

You need to have your iodine test taken too. No doctors I’ve ever heard of ever takes the blood test for iodine. My son only had one because I insisted and he was very low. I had taken him to several endocrinologist and regular doctors and they kept telling me that low iodine was never a problem anymore in the U.S. because it’s in salt and even if you don’t eat salt, all fast food has tons of salt. So many doctors don’t understand that many people are now eating pink salt with no iodine added and that almost all fast food uses salt that does not have iodine! They also don’t understand that all the chlorine, fluoride and bromine we are a L exposed to every day, takes up the space on receptors that iodine should be on. They said this while they held his low iodine blood test in their hand. Even the Mayo Florida endocrinologist told me that! Months pass and my son gets sicker. Then at Mayo, they did a Pet Scan, mainly to look for tumors in his lungs because he had a Achr antibodies. There was nothing in his lungs but there were several thyroid tumors that lit up. Now he is going in for a biopsy of his thyroid. I knew that thyroid caused goiters and he has had 3 goiters drained over the years but not one doctor would listen to me. I’ve recently read that having a combination of thyroid nodules, low thyroid, and high IGF1, can mean a serious problem in the thyroid. They all knew that he also had high IGF1 too, but because he had normal thyroid, they didn’t look any further. TSH isn’t even a real thyroid hormone, it comes from the pituitary. Finally, it looks like my son will finally get treatment now that he may have cancer. I just cannot believe, with all the information on the internet, that more doctors are not aware of any of this...not even the endocrinologists! Please always have your iodine tested and ALL the thyroid antibodies!

Erin Dowling It’s not just the doctors people! Sure they practice medicine and have paid a considerable amount of money on an education. I’d feel pretty sure of myself once having graduated and paid well over 100 grand for the education. The issue is just that. Most Doctors/MD, are required to do no more 5-10 hours of nutrition annually! They practice medicine that is considered the “common practice” and cannot stray from it or else they can loose their license. It’s the small “health committee”, that is responsible for establishing the guidelines of “common practice” via voting! It’s all a “standardized” practice! Not to mention that all doctors have to follow a federalize curriculum! Doctors/prescribing doctors are Also payed a commission from the pharmaceutical companies for all “medicine/prescriptions” they prescribe! To be a doctor and to practice medicine that is outside the “standardized” practice is not legally permitted! It would require a special type of license that only a handful of states allow.

Most Doctors don't focus on Iodine testing Or supplementing; especially since *Iodine,* has been shown to trigger autoimmune thyroid conditions, and will also _exacerbate_ an existing Autoimmune Thyroid disease, such as Hashimotos. Supplementing with Iodine have been found to actually make a Thyroid condition worse in many patients even though they can make a person feel more energetic.

@@jamesallison7019 All of that still Doesn't Stop a lot of good Doctors from recommending certain supplements and give Nutritional advice. Many Doctors Study Nutrition for years Outside of the Regular Medical School Curriculum. Others Refer patients out to Clinical Dietitian/Nutritionists. Iodine testing is Not a Focus; especially since Iodine has been shown to trigger autoimmune thyroid conditions, and will also exacerbate an existing autoimmune thyroid disease, such as Hashimotos. It is considered prudent to leave iodine out of a thyroid supplement. Supplementing with Iodine oftentimes actually make a Thyroid Condition worse in Patients even though they can make a person feel more energetic. I'm sure Doctors explained that to the Lady about her Son. His condition is more serious with Thyroid Cancer and Nodules which most likely will result in a Full Or Partial Thyroidectomy.

49 years of ‘suffering’ from thyroid disease, I’m just fed-up and totally exhausted from going from so-called professionals to professionals who haven’t helped me in any way! (I’ve had diarrhea for 49 years, since the first day of taking the thyroid medication!!!). I’m not sure I can handle this much longer, exhaustion to the point I can’t stay away for almost 18+ hours every day, but diarrhea 24/7 is killing me. What can you do when a medical‘professional’ tells you, ‘I was never taught to test for TSH3!’ Year after year, 10+ years of just that line, how are they allowed to treat anyone medical? WTH? (I’m blessed my hubby is exceptionally understanding, he’s taken over everything but the housekeeping. Going to yet another g.p. the end of this month, I’m sure nothing will change nor improve for me! I’m just waiting to die at this time, I am leaving my body for medical research, I hope it will help someone as nothing has helped me! I can’t do this any more.

my mum has underactive thyroid, and doctor told me that I have it too, I am taking the hormone substitute medication, but to be honest, the only thing I noticed, the only change, before /after I started taking medication is one thing only, and that I was loosing a lots of hair before I was diagnosed and I kept asking people why s that, my hairdresser said probably to do with iron and that I should check iron in the blood. well, doc said it s thyroid. and i must say that hair is fine now. My opinion is that thyroid got confused when I entered perimenopause at the age of 42, but then again...who knows how long it was there. I started also taking vitamin K2, supposedly good for thyroid function, together with D3 vitamin for immunity (cause of this coronavirus thing too)....in any case, i didnt see much difference, except hair and feeling tired, but then again menopause has the same symptoms.... For some people I heard it does not really make any difference taking or not taking the hormone levotyroxine, and two friends do not even take it even though they have thyroid issue, they said it does not make any difference to them, they feel tired anyway. donno....

My new physicians assistants took me off of my thyroid medicine (synthroid). Synthroid he said, 'it was an infant dose and why am I taking such a dangerous medication' ? I have to go in the blood work ( yes, that's understandable) He has made me wait a couple of weeks before doing it, but I have edema in my legs again, gaining weight, exhausted. I told him going on and off of this medicine affects me mentally and he disagreed with me. I took some thyroid supplements from the health food store an that helped with the mental issues like depression, and thank goodness for that. My blood pressure is high again, and on the medication all these issues were resolved. The hair loss is still frustrating. Thanks, I wanted to write this in case anyone else is going to the same issues.

I have hypothyroid too. After taking thyroid supplements, insteadvof my T3 becoming raised, my TSH also declined. I lost 20 lbs within one year not knowing my TSH declined until I took blood test with a doctor. I went to see an Endocrinologist at anither clinic who told me to come back with another tests (incl. tests of antibodies as I was not tested earlier ) after one and half month later. In the meantime, I saw in one of KZbin posts that coriander leaves and ash gourd is good for thyroid so I started taking its juice every day one and half hour before breakfast. I went to the Endocrinologist again with new test results and learnt that my TSH has been raised from 0.018 to 0.24.

It took me 3 years to get diagnosed the first time. My primary care doctor said he was "Looking for zebras". I had a large goiter. They said it was nothing to worry about so I didn't worry. Problem was I had the most intense itching in the soles of my feet and on my palms. I went nowhere without Benedryl and a PedEgg to scratch my feet. It was horrible. My doctor sent me to an allergist. He told me "You have thyroid cancer." He set me up for an ultrasound. The young man doing the ultrasound lost all the color in his face. He asked me if I would please wait he needed help. He came back in with a doctor that told me I had thyroid cancer. It was the size of a racquetball. I had surgery, lost ability to talk for 3 months and was never able to sing again. I had been a vocalist. I had RIA and was so sick everything I touched glowed in the dark. I took the color out of my leather couch when when I was able to come out of my room. It came back in a new spot in my throat 13 years later. This time I was treated at a fancy clinic out of state. They did the surgery and later RIA. I felt it when I was swallowing. I'd been having the problems with the soles of my feet itching again. I knew this time what it was. No one ever mention itching but was my only symptom.

I had graves with symptoms lasting half my life (people just shrugged it off as me being unfit and I thought it was just puberty and my health deteriorating with age), with potasssium levels so low and T3/4 levels so high it simply read off the charts of > 45 milimoles/litre (I think that was the unit?) and K levels was something around 14, where lethal minimum potassium levels was around 25 and normal range between 38 and 45. Doctor was like "You should be dead" - I had paralysis when I got into the hospital (Potassium is a required electrolyte for neurons to stimulate muscular movement, only my major external muscles were effected, I could still talk, breath fine and feel pain normally), usually my body would recover from it after about 6 hours but that day I had to get 4 IV bags to inject additional potassium and magnesium into my blood. I also tore some muscles whenever I tried to override the paralysis because only a small portion of my muscles would contract. Oh and, aside from the hospitalisation date, I was able to "walk" with wall/table assistance while under paralysis effects with only about 5-10% muscular strength, because I'm not that dumb and know a little bit of basic physics. My family thought I looked normal during the day, and because the paralysis only occured at night, I only walked around under paralysis to get snacks from the cupboard. I also did a bit of my own research and I think my graves was caused through genetic coincidence triggered by abnormal high glucose intake as I noticed I would only get paralysis if I ate an abundant amount of sugary snacks that night. Now I'm stable and sitting on carbimazole tablets that inhibit T3 production

Summer of 2020 I decided to ride on my bike and do something other than sitting at home, but few minutes later my vision turned black and I almost couldn't breathe. I thought my body was just tired because I haven't been riding my bike since the pandemic started. Few weeks later, I was experiencing palpitations and I thought "oh i'm just anxious with all these cases of covid". However, this year I began to have hand and leg tremors and I can't focus well on my clinical placement. So, I decided to go to my family doctor and told him about everything. I also asked him if I can get some thyroid tests since my Grandma had hyperthyroidism. The test came back and showed that my T4 is 100 (Canadian measurement) and he gave me a high dose of methimazole and i've been taking it for 2 weeks now. My journey has just started and I still have a long way to go, but reading all these comments from people who experience the same gives me hope. Hoping to live a normal life again and finish my clinical experience!

I recently had an appointment for an ultrasound of my thyroid and my doctor told me that I have nodules that could potentially be cancerous. I have to get a biopsy in April to make sure I don’t have cancer and I’m terrified. I’m terrified of getting the biopsy and I’m terrified that I might have cancer. If anyone who has been in the same situation as me, please give me some advice.

I had the exact same story. Don't panic. More than likely it's hopefully not cancer as goiters on the thyroid are very common. However, please do everything you can to avoid getting your thyroid removed. That's a whole other issue!

My doctor told me that my thyroid dosage in the past was too high and he believed my a-fib was a result. This was very concerning to me as this diagnosis is serious.

It is hard to find someone that knows what they are doing! I had a wonderful NP that knew so much and did alternative and modern meds together! I moved to TN in 1987 and have not found anyone since! Also if you find alternative here in TN it’s a racket! They charge so much you can’t afford them! It’s all about the money for most alternative practitioners as well so they need to get off their high horses and start helping people,... not sucking the life out of them!

I am trying to reach T4 value of 5 and it's a struggle .I had 3.3 TSH in 2018 once upon a time so I went off the Methimazole for 3 month!My TSH crashed !I should of only been off 1 month!I learned my lesson!
@plumeria83572 жыл бұрын
This was true in my case. I had normal TSH but odd symptoms that seemed like I had gallbladder disease. But I didn’t. Thankfully the doctor did a thyroid peroxidase antibody test and it was quite elevated. I had Hashimoto’s and needed daily medication, and within about 48 hours almost all digestive problems stopped. The thyroid controls a lot of things.

I have been hypo for 26 years. Taking 100mg synthroid. Went to hosp with what I thought was a heart attack turns out panic attack maybe caused by .27 tsh level. They are saying meds too high. Why all of a sudden? Only thing different in my life was a covid shot!!!! Makes me wonder if I made a mistake getting it. Now I have more hair loss, heart palpitations and pressure in my head all the time. Doc says have my blood re checked in 6-8 weeks. Does this sound weird to you???

I need help to see if I have this condition. I've had eczema all my life, And I've developed rashes on my throat. Recently, I had problems with the ecemza around my eyes where they became itchy. And then I got eye conjunctivitis. Sometimes, My thyroid would swell, and it would be hard to breathe. I felt exhausted all the time and very forgetful. Any recommended way to get diagnosed would be great. My doctor truly believes that nothing is wrong with me.

They told me I had low thyroid and that I was going to get fat lose my hair and think stupid as it turns out I didn't listen and I didn't take the hormone therapy and I just asked God to help me. Right now I'm super smart, Thinking Fast, in shape, and my hair is thick and beautiful. Don't look so much for diseases you might find some labels if you do.

maddie musick I have the symptoms too but I’m not sure . My mother has depression and anxiety and I’m also showing symptoms of that so I think it’ll just be that, but I can’t sleep at all and my hands are shaking as I’m typing this, my hair is also quite thin, I’m always tired, no matter how much sleep I get.

I got diagnosed for graves disease 2 months ago but I'm pretty sure I've had it for a long time. My first doctor just thought it was anxiety and prescribed me anxiety and sleeping pills. But years go by I still feel really sick. I have anxiety, heart palpitations, shaky hands, I get hot and sweat easily, my hair is thinning, my nails are super brittle, I have teeth problems, irregular periods, and even though I eat a lot, I cant gain weight at all. I'm currently 83lbs and 4'11 :(

Just diagnosed with hyper. For the last 2 years the symptoms started and progressed: sleeplessness, weakness in the gym, hunger, weight loss, vision degradation. It was when my heart sped up that I freaked out and went to a cardiologist and got diagnosed.

Me too! Sounds like classic hyperthyroidism. Revved up metabolism, weight loss, and anxiety. I need to get checked out bc I’m always starving despite eating a great deal and I’ve lost 16 lbs in the last 9 months. ( the first 3 months I did change my diet, eating much less and healthier, and worked my way back into shape with running/swimming after being pretty sedentary a few years. After that weight came off, Ive started eating a lot more to gain but I’m staying really thin. Also experienced interrupted sleep, periodic muscle tension and occasional heart palpitations. I’m a 50 year old guy btw. How are you doing Khione? Any changes or did you find anything out?

I have hashimtos since my 20’s i am now 51 . I never felt good , saw so many different endocrinologists and I’m sorry but they are useless! I became so sick , that I found an endocrinologist, that did testing and I wasn’t producing cortisol! I wonder how long I’ve been walking around like that!!! Then an mri , yes they found a pituitary tumor, so that causes the adrenal insufficiency. Then I developed severe autoimmune type 3 angiodema- uticara, my body swells inside with so much inflammation, i will wake up with my lips 3 times the size, hands swollen, feet even my scalp ! I tried asking this particular endocrinologist, she said see a dermatologist, well dermatologist didn’t know what it was , nor did endo ! I gave up! It started to get worse , and worse ... i was about to check myself into the hospital, but I said let’s try this immunologist, well thank you Jesus, he took one look at me and knew exactly what it was , however, i am considered now “ treatment resistant “ in other words , nothing at all works , no immunosuppressants, steroids, antihistamines, etc . Immunologist sent me for 17 vials of blood work, well came back I have mast cell and mastiocytosis, type 3 angiodema, uticara, and am now trying new medications, I have to inject myself every 2 weeks to prevent the attacks, and have injections on hand to stop the attacks. Its so frustrating! Think about it, is it so far fetched to think bc I don’t produce cortisol which is so important to protect the body during stress, of course it can be a factor as to why i now suffer from this disease. So freaking frustrating

I was misdiagnosed for 3 years I thought I was going crazy. It became so bad that I could not count change back to customers as I was shaking so bad. 4 different timing ER from blacking out was told it was stress . Told it was panic attacks . All along it was hyperthyroidism Graves disease. Had to have my thyroid removed then 5 years later developed Graves eye disease. People don't realize that thyroid problems are but one symptom of Graves disease. 15 years after being diagnosed with Graves Now have been diagnosed with RA autoimmune diseases often lead to other autoimmune diseases

I have highly elevated TPOAb levels but my TSH and T3 and T4 are “normal”. I’ve had severe progressing symptoms of fatigue, inflammation (especially in my face), brain fog, joint pain, etc. my APRN just keeps telling me to lose weight and it’ll help. Turns out I have Hashimoto’s.
