As someone who has struggled with Hashimoto's for 12 years, this is by far one of the most important videos on Hashimoto's on the internet! I recently moved from Los Angeles to Chicago and wish I'd found you when I lived in LA. This video is more informative than the last decade of visiting my endocrinologist. I finally did my own research (years of it) before learning the exact things in this video and finally getting on the path to healing. I started about four months ago and have gone from 150 mcg levothyroxine to 88 mcg (as my thyroid began to heal I could no longer tolerate the dose I'd been on for years). My inflammatory markers have gone down and anti-TPO has gone down but still elevated (I was still eating dairy...cheese was so hard to give up). Now that I'm gluten, soy, and dairy free, eating a nutrient-dense diet, engaging in stress busting activity, getting the right amount and type of exercise, and taking thyroid supportive supplements, including getting my vitamin D and iron up (both were severely low) I'm feeling so much better and still have a ways to go. I believe weight loss is important because fat is not just a dormant storage system. It behaves more like an organ, secreting hormones and contributing to inflammation. I've lost 20 pounds since starting my health journey 4 months ago but have a ways to go. Thank you so much for this video. Your patients are lucky!! If I ever move back to the West Coast I know who to see. You are changing lives! You are a Godsend, you are an amazing example of the approach physicians should take when treating hashi's.

I just have to add, D3 is amazing for autoimmune disorders. I suffered multiple food allergies for 2 decades and am now 99% recovered due to higher dose D3 (13,000 IU/day) and other cofactors such as K2 (mk7), Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium. I used to be hospitalised with anaphylaxis after eating a tiny amount of egg, but can now eat several with no allergic reaction whatsoever. Many other foods, too. It's literally like living in a new body. Just wanted to share with people, as I think it's important for people to know the immunomodulating effects of adequate/optimal levels of 25(OH)D.

Actually, so it’s still a very new process. I’ve cut out a lot of gluten, trying to dairy and soy, but my levels are very high. So I looked into it more and synthroid and levo both have gluten in the medication. My Dr. found a capsule called tirosint that is actually a capsule that I’m waiting to get approved - it’s gluten free. Because if you have a gluten intolerance, that could potentially affect the way your body processes the medication. That’s the farthest I’ve gotten so far. Also, if you’re low in B1, this could also affect you ( I just found out today)

Hi doc, My endocrinologists said TPO number doesn’t matter, once you are positive for Hashimoto’s that’s it.( she gave an example- the size of the mole on your skin does not matter, sometimes the small mole may indicate a dangerous cancer )She also said Celiac diet is not for Hashimoto’s, I don’t see any improvement in Hashimoto’s patients who followed the celiac diet unless they have celiac disease. Any suggestions on this? Thank you.

Thanks, this was so helpful! My naturopath told me to take selenium for my Hashimotos but didn't explain why, so I stopped taking it. I will resume taking it now that you explained why it's helpful. I stopped eating gluten and my anti TPO antibodies went from off the chart to close to normal. I still eat soy products, but almost always eat organic soy. It sounds like maybe I shouldn't eat soy products. If I still want to be vegetarian what foods would a good diet be centered around besides the obvious vegetables and fruits?
@drrajsree3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Julie! If your TPO is close to normal despite eating organic soy, you might be fine.... Best way to know for sure is do a trial off soy for 4+ weeks and see if there is a big difference in your labs. If not, then you can continue the organic soy. Best wishes, RN

I have hashimotos. Going gluten free and soy free sounds super easy to me. Maybe a tad tricky in some cases, but mostly doable with only minor effort. And I've already been sugar/sweetener free for 4 years. So no issues there. Going dairy free on the other hand... I just haven't found a good milk replacement, I suppose. I've tried LOADS. Almond, coconut, oat, flax, macadamia nut... Nothing can make things like coffee as enjoyable for me... And cheese is pretty hard to replace as well. Not to mention butter. Making eggs without butter kinda sounds like sacrilege lol I don't drink much milk (1/2 cup daily). 2 tbsp of cream daily. And between 38-50 g of cheddar cheese daily. And 1 tbsp butter maybe once a week. But I'm sure even that small amount is too much for hashimotos... Anybody have any tips on how to make coffee/eggs/sandwiches/etc still taste good without milk/cream/butter/cheese?
@drrajsree2 жыл бұрын
Yes giving a dairy can be challenging. I have found that adding more olive oil to eggs give it the creamy texture. Using other fats like avocados also helps. For coffee I’ve gotten used to vanilla almond milk, but some people like to blend MCT oil into the coffee to resemble using a dairy fat.
@chanchan53492 жыл бұрын
I use a good olive oil in eggs. I really like it a lot. I gave up on dairy for coffee, and then cut way back on coffee. I started drinking tea with fresh lemon instead. It was a huge deal bc I was so addicted to coffee/cream. Now I really don’t miss coffee at all. I use avocado in many dishes, including eggs, to add richness that butter used to add. Good luck

Great explanation and I found it very helpful. There is one thing that happened right after i stopped eating gluten that has been a problem. I lost 15 lbs. and I was 118 lbs. at 5' 5". Went down to 103 lbs. A few months after that, I got bit by a tick and was very ill from it. Took anti biotics and got better. That had put me at 95lbs. It's been 4 years...still 95/96lbs. I look almost emaciated. No one seems to know anything. All they come up with are pills...

@June The Joonebug My mom is in the similar situation as you. During the pandemic mom didn't visit the hospital due to overwhelmed health workers and danger of going to the hospital, so she didn't think her weigh was down. Then one day, a traumatic event happened, pectic ulcer and later on found out it was h.pylori infection. So she underwent PPI and antibiotics and eat liquid food for a month or two. We thought it was due to temporary onset of anti-biotics and liquid food that caused her unintended weight loss, but after a year her weight stays low, which is about 15~18lb lower than pre-pandemic time. I did some research online and it seems like in general, an infection or any inflammation triggered point caused some anti-body to increase, making it become autoimmune disease. However, hypothyroid should cause one to gain weight, not lose weight. All her blood work seems normal, no sign of neck pain, nor lump. No goiter, just a lot of muscle loss and fat loss. however, it's at a lower "stable" level similar to yours. I also cannot find anything online, but some say that weight loss might happened. Levothyroxine side effect also added "unintended weight loss". So that's my only conclusion right now. Her family doc only test for TSH and T4, but we went to other labs to do whole extreme endocrine test and found out her antibodies and rT3 is high. Anyways, you're the only one I found online that also have weightloss as a hypothyroid patient.

I was sent for a thyroid ultrasound due to high antibodies. The ENT I was sent to see for the results said the nodules I had were extremely small and that they would see me in one year to monitor them. When I asked about the inflammation that was attacking my thyroid. He said my thyroid tests were all normal and my thyroid was working fine. He didn't seem to be too concerned about the inflammation which I found very odd. I asked if I should be seen by an endocrinologist. He said he could refer me to one but that they would probably tell me the same thing. The medical system is very frustrating. I experience fatigue, brain fog and restless leg syndrome. According to this video, It sounds like these symptoms are all due to the antibodies my thyroid is producing. I'm going back to the Keto diet I was following which helped reverse my tsh level from 4.08 to 2.8 in 3 months. Hoping avoiding gluten and eating healthy carbs such as green vegetables will lower my antibodies.

If you are in a hyper (vs hypo) thyroiditis stage, you can naturally suppress the thyroid by drinking freshly squeezed broccoli juice. Broccoli is in the Cruciferous family, and in large quantities blocks the thyroid, just like the synthetic meds do, but without side effects. Juicing the broccoli is the best way to get the benefits, it’s a pain to eat it raw in larger quantities on a regular basis. I’ve been maintaining my thyroid like that for 11 years. In addition, take Enzyme supplements and probiotics, plus vitamin D… no meat, gluten or dairy… stay away from sugar and alcohol, processed and fried foods. I tried going vegan for awhile but I was hungry all the time 😂

Yes, right now my TSH is normal and I have Hashimoto’s. With Hashimoto’s, your thyroid hormones can swing in both directions or hold steady. I was hypothyroid for at least 15 years and on meds. Right now I am holding steady without meds, but my antibodies are still high. I am fighting some fatigue and weight gain, but I am not having other symptoms. I am doing an elimination diet starting this weekend to try to get those TPO antibodies to come down.

Love the well explained video. Informative. I went to many Endocrinologist and told me I had Hashimoto while another doctor said I do not. However, there was a duration of time. I also was put on Levithyroxine and was told to get off. Now years later my TSH is about 6.8 and my doctor wants again to put me on medication. Why is it most doctors want to push medicine? My firm belief is Thyroid disease can be treated without any drugs. Because drugs are just a bandaid and do not get at the root of the problem. Plus, all drugs have side effects.
@drrajsree2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Typically I also prescribe medication when TSH is elevated. Correcting the thyroid hormones is important since the thyroid is the "thermostat" of the body. However, the approach outlined in this video is helpful for lowering the TPO antibodies and inflammation seen in Hashimoto's.
