Charles II was the elder brother, not the father of James II: Charles II fathered many children but none by his wife, who was sadly barren. Therefore, there being no legitimate issue the late King's brother James ascended the throne.

My bad, must've made a typo whilst writing the description, fixed it.

Not before old Monmouth tried to take it. I'd rather have had Monmouth than Billy.

King Jim, rather dim, Made it clear he liked the Pope. Britons told him: "Push off, Jimmy! Catholic Britain?! Not a hope."

@@kingkarna7168 "Ne'er such courage yet was known" James famously fled England. "Foreign foe shall dare no more to trespass on our British shore." James II was deposed by foreign King William of Orange after he invaded. The part about James fleeing is especially funny because King William didn't mean to make him flee. He was planning to invade London and force the King to proclaim his Protestant daughter heir (instead of his catholic son), but James got scared and ran away

Isn't Islam quite common in Britain today? It seems like religious freedom may not have aged very badly.
