Could you be so kind as to explain to me how it disqualified her. I’m so confused.
@nyssaramirez37153 жыл бұрын
There is an Olympic rule that only 2 gymnasts per country can compete in finals. So Simone and Jade who qualified at #1 and #2 get to go to finals and Mykayla doesn’t 😫The same rule was in favor for Simone on bars where there were about 4 or 5 Russian gymnasts who got in the top 8 but only the 2 with the highest scores could compete so that allowed Simone to go to the finals even though she was # 9
@sogiki3 жыл бұрын

@nyssaramirez37153 жыл бұрын
The specialists ( Jade and Mykayla) were allowed to see if they could qualify for any individual medal. They only couldnt compete in the team final. But, because they are from the same country, only the top 2 scorers from each country can compete for a medal. That’s why Mykayla was inched out of vault finals. Jade and Simone got higher scores than her. Hope that makes sense! If there was no 2 per country rule Mykayla would be doing vault final and indivodual all around final.

Maybe if she didn't have her foot problem. But no. The pain she had to endure with her shockwave therapy and/or surgery, there's no way she's doing that. She's done with it and I don't blame her. Imagine another 4 years of pain just to have Tom or the next person screw you over yet again.

Maybe she shouldn't have badmouthed Marta Karolyi, who still wields much influence, in a widely watched documentary about what it takes to get to the Olympics in gymnastics. Although the team was chosen for logical reasons in any regard. And hindsight of course isn't a part of that.

It was, ironically, petitioned by the Americans. I think in the 2000 Olympics, the Romanian team dominated the podium and the Americans felt it was unfair. Definitely stupid rule, the best should compete against the best, that’s what the Olympics are for. But, it’s ironic that Americans wanted this rule in the first place.
@annahayden3 жыл бұрын
@@reversethatvideo8813 actually the Americans were not the first or only country that advocated for this rule change. I believe all competing countries took a vote many years before 2000 due to podium domination by several different countries. The majority voted for the 2 per country rule, and it’s been implemented ever since. Makes no sense to keep the rule with the new distinction between team and individual competitors though. Even if they want the two per country rule to stay in place, it should not apply to individual competitors during qualifications to keep things the most fair they can be. Feel terrible for Myk. Loved her performance, it’s a shame she was basically set up to fail by USAG.
@reversethatvideo88133 жыл бұрын
@@annahayden Americans were definitely one of the first or most supported of the petition. But yeah, MyKayla did amazing.
@annahayden3 жыл бұрын
@@reversethatvideo8813 No actually, Americans did not put forward the rule change and weren’t one of the first to publicly support it. They just voted to implement said rule change along with many other countries. Common misconception though! Still ironic they voted for it, but my issue isn’t really with that rule in particular because I do understand it. My issue is how it’s applied to individual athletes. Having the rule implemented during qualifications too (and not just the event finals for who can medal) specifically for athletes competing as individuals makes no sense to me. It doesn’t allow these athletes competing as individuals to really get a full chance to compete at the olympics if they qualify for certain finals and then get two-per-countried because they only get to participate in qualifying (upsetting because even those that don’t qualify for any event finals that are on the team get to actually compete later on regardless). Sucks though, I so wanted to see Myk in the vault final and I really wish her journey would have ended on a better note. She’s a lovely gymnast and has worked hard for it. I feel the same way about several of the Russian gymnasts. It’s a shame they got two-per-countried on so many events.
@annahayden3 жыл бұрын
@@AshleyKarys ??? The rule change occurred in 1976 at the Montreal games. The US was not the first, main, or only push behind the rule change. This was even prior to Russian/Soviet podium domination. Russia was actually a big driving force (at least publicly) behind the rule change, although the majority of the countries competing in the games voted for the rule change. This was something that happened long before the 1996 or 2000 games and the US was not the biggest or first advocate for the rule. You can look up when the two-per-country rule was implemented online and the date should come up along with the articles explaining why it happened and who supported it. It was an attempt to give smaller and less financially wealthy countries a chance to medal and it happened in 1976. It’s a common misconception but please don’t spread false info around if you can help it in the future. The info is easily found online so you can check it out and get the facts :)

Can’t believe or understand how or why she or Jade didn’t get to represent USA in a team final, their floor and vault would have made the difference in qualifying avoiding them to finish on 2nd place. But the logic behind the decisions for team USA always a question isn’t it.

Regarding jade….the public were bashing her and she was discouraged from competing all around at trials and attempting to make the four man team…basically she was bullied into accepting the World Cup-qualified individual position and to give up a shot at the team

If you’re meaning for the Olympics its because they were competing under individual, they weren’t on the team!! So they only got to compete if they qualified!!

@@Chels-fz5uq Jade Carey was my choice for the 4th spot. Given what we faced, with Simone dropping out, and given that everyone was saying that we needed someone with vault and floor high scores (not necessarily all around) then Jade was the right person for the fourth spot. And, look who qualified for both floor and vault! She was totally bullied online for considering Tom's option to try out for the team. People can be so ugly.

The conspiratorial part of me wonders if Simone has not, given her situation, chosen to not compete precisely so the other teammates could shine. She's been to one Olympics and won so much. It makes me wonder if this is not a plan.
