Good for you.
@dontbanmebrodontbanme54032 ай бұрын
While I personally like learning languages and agree with you, it can be harder to learn one when you're not forced to. Assuming her dad lives in Miami, it's very easy to only need to speak Spanish. It's much easier to learn when you're forced to. Btw, this is the whole point of "ex pat" communities: groups of people (usually English speakers, let's keep it real), that get together and are able to get by in a country without having to learn the native language.
@nataliaalfonso26622 ай бұрын
He knows the primary language of Miami. It’s Spanish. It’s even in a state called “La Florida.” It’s not called “the florid.” Lmfao Florida was colonized by Spain way before it was ever part of the USA. IF THE WHITE CRACKERS that live in Florida don’t have to learn any Native American language, why should the people of Spanish descent from a few miles away in cuba who moved to what used to be another part of the Spanish empire have to learn English? English isn’t even the official language of the United States. And Miami remains the gateway to Latin America. It’s where tons of Latin American corporations have their headquarters It would be weird to live in Florida and not speak Spanish.
@cjc22 ай бұрын
Interesting point. There are so many English speaking expat communities in southern Europe, Latin America and SE Asia of who get by just fine without learning the local languages. I knew an elderly Italian lady who immigrated to the US when she was in her 40s and still could not speak English fluently at 80. It happens.
@karenayers6793Ай бұрын

I have a Mexican friend who is a classic makes really good money and her mother is one of those Mexican women who never learned to speak english but yet got a good job. Whenever my friend gives to a charity, she will only give to charities that are in Mexico. Yet she grew up in America when to American colleges served in the Marines, but she will only give to Mexican charities in Mexico. Also has no interest in american history, American media, American food, has no interest in friends who are not mexican.. The funny thing is she really doesn't even have any friends. I'm. Her "friend" but i'm not mexican. But I have. To ask myself what kind of friend is she?I've been to her house many times she's never been to my house once, Probably cause i'm not mexican. Isn't it nice that you can go to other countries and enjoy their culture? But What is American culture? What is American culture? America is a place of many cultures. So I just get tired of that pushing of the american culture the american dream..... Because it seems only white people are clear on what American culture is. Because at this stage in American history, it's like that's just fiction.There is no such thing as American culture.

I don’t understand how someone move to a different country and don’t even care to learn the language. 50 years? That’s sad.
@kitty_s234562 ай бұрын
It can happen, esp if the person migrated as an adult. My mom is an example. She was very busy - being a mom to 2 small kids, working a job, studying at night. For her, it's not English/ Spanish, but it's a similar situation. The country where she/ we now live in - that language is her 3rd language. There's her mother tongue, then English is her 2nd language, then my dad's language is her 3rd language. I spoke to my dad in his language (I consider it as my mother tongue), then dad & I both know English as 2nd language. I would rate my mom's knowledge of her 3rd language as ~25%. She knows a few words & phrases. I speak to my mom in a mix of English & the 2 other languages.
