These proverbs are very impressive indeed. Thank you so much. This is South Sudanese Dinka language proverbs. The beggar can not ask for a big bowl. The meaning is the person who is begging, can not have a say over whatever have been given to them. If what have been given to them is small they would just be great ful, and say nothing at all.

Hello teacher, «A quién madruga Dios le ayuda» "Who get up early, will be helped by God" More or less it means that: If you don't be lazy and work hard, God will help you sooner or later. «No dejes para mañana lo que puedas hacer hoy» "Do not leave for tomorrow what you can do today " It means: Don't be lazy! Thanks for your interesting lessons. I appreciate them a lot ☺🤗

Thanks Lisa! Most of this proverbs are also in Italy! but there Is a country proverb, said by my grandmother which Is: a hen Is faster to undo, than a hundred to put back, that It means: it's difficiult to put in order but it's much easier to mess up

Greetings from Estonia. We say here like this when talking about laziness: The mouse is not running to the mouth of the sleeping cat. And similar to your expression with the hay.... I googled and found the same expression in English: to strike while the iron is hot. Rough translation from Estonian would be "hammer the iron til it is still hot".

Proverbs from the video: 1) Make hay while the sun shines. 2) Failing to plan is planning to fail 3) The harder you work, the luckier you get 4) If it ain't broke, don't fix it 5) Where there's a will there's a way 6) Necessity is the mother of invention 7) If you snooze you lose 8) Don't bite off more than you can chew 9) Nothing ventured nothing gained 10) Hope for the best but prepare for the worst 11) Don't cross a bridge until you come to it 12) Hard work never killed anyone

The head that doesn't hurt, isn't covered with a handkerchief.= If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Losing my head or gaining a hat = I'll cross that bridge, when I get there.

In Morocco we have literally the same proverbs as : the necessity is the mother of invention. Easy come, easy go. Like mother, like daughter. However, - make hay while the sun shines, we say: strike the steel while it's hot. - A leopard doesn't change its spots, we have 2 sayings here: 1. A bad habit always stays. 2. The dancer never forgets the shoulder movement. ( coz dancers in Morocco move their shoulders while dancing)
@AccurateEnglish3 жыл бұрын
I like that proverb about a dancer’s shoulder movements. 😄

A German version of “necessity is the mother of invention” might be “Not macht erfinderisch” (= misery/emergency drives invention) which is often used with a twinkle, commenting on an execution that is rather practical than professional ... Lisa, thanks a ton for these utterly helpful videos that I’ve been sharing with native speakers, too, who deem the grammar lessons equally interesting and sometimes revealing :)

«Dormirse en los laureles» «Resting on one's laurels» It means: Neglecting or abandoning oneself in the activity undertaken, trusting in the successes that have been achieved. That is to say that after having achieved some success, we relax, we do not try any more because we pretend that we are always valued and we are reminded of how good we were.

The dog that barks never bites is pretty common in my country NEPAL too. Other proverbs like : - If you have legs, you can get enough shoes 👟 - Tomorrow never comes [just do it now ] - Sweets on both hand [ more profit ] - A bad man quarrells with his tools - a drop in the ocean. - all worship rising sun 🌞 -beat the dog before the lion /tiger. - see your neck before you swallow bone /meat . - don't play with fire - strike the iron while it's red - the door is wider than the house [ spending more than earning ] - when the snake is old, frog rules - time and tide never wait for you. And Many more.....
