I've had moderate cystic acne for years. I started low dose accutane in 2018 which continued for 1.5 years. A decision that I won't regret for a bit. Although I was hesitant at first due to harsh side effects. But let me warn you Karimma, accutane won't guarantee you your flawless skin back. I've become vegan and on glutamine and collagen to heal my gut because accutane couldn't help the root issue which is my gut. I started getting my acne but much more smaller and easy to treat. Which isn't an issue. Your skin looks amazing! Very happy for you!!!

Not accutane but severe acne story: I had cystic acne on whole of my face when I was 17. I went on a birth control for almost 6 years, it helped with the worst but I had more smaller breakouts on whole of my body. I stopped taking it 3 years ago. About two months ago I figured out that my acne was most likely caused by a mix of allergy to milk, very poor tolerance of sugar, atopic dermatitis and overall dryness of my skin. Since cutting out milk and sugar my skin improved a lot. I had to change whole skincare routine, so I won't irritate my skin. It is so simple now, it's only micellar water, lightweight moisturiser and sunscreen in the morning and micellar water, gentle cleanser and the same moisturiser in the evening. The only thing that my skin will tolerate once a week is very gentle enzyme mask. I can't wear foundation, because every single one that I've tried is making me have rash over my whole face. At least it's not that case with concealer. It was really trial and error, but at least after 9 years I finally figured it out.

Hey Karima ! I have been on accutane twice (at 14/15 and 17/18) in the past and I suffered from acne (hormonal and once fungal) on and off (accutane gave me some free years) from 14 to 24. I completely understand the decision to try accutane and I genuinely hope that it will clear your skin for good !! However IF your acne were to come back within a year or two after the medication, (do not dispair!) you may want to check certain vital parameters : gut (microbiome analysis), hormone levels (at all stages of the cycle) and insulin, thyroid, liver, cortisol variations, heavy metals and essential minerals levels. In my case, the acne was a sign my body was sending for much bigger underlying problems and I wish I would have had the tools I have now to interpret it and avoid making them worse with certain treatments (like weakening my liver and gut even more and my hormonal system with birth control). The last time I went back on birth control my gut gave up and it now took a lot longer to free myself from acne. Depending on what the issue was my acne changed in form and placement; I'm saying this because the last time I had acne almost exactly like yours it was fungal one, so if it were to come back it might be worth checking out if you have a fungus in your gut. I'm not saying this to be a know it all!! Just wish someone would have given me this advice back then and I just want to broaden your toolkit too :) Lastly, if all fails : NAET Total Reset. It's the therapy that healed me for good. That advice goes for anyone with acne or other health issues. But everyone needs to decide what suits them best depending on resources and lifestyle, just wanted to share my experience and maybe help you and others too !

Coincidentally I am also on accutane (finally did it at 27) and also dealing with the side effects- except I am taking 80mg/day. Everything is a desert! My best friends: aveeno eczema balm (basically glycerine, fatty alcohols, and other boring goodness), aquaphor, and illiyoon ceramide cream. I cake on the moisturizer and aquaphor all day long and stay away from showering more than every other day because my body skin and scalp just gets dry. I can seriously go a week without showering and my hair will still look decent. I only use soap in "dirty" areas and only wash my skin if I wear any makeup or if I just feel like my face is grimey. Also worth noting- if you are on accutane, you really aren't supposed to use any kind of exfoliators or retinol products. Using something like the REN glycolactic peel on accutane-d skin like mine would 100% cause a chemical burn. It's the same reason that chemical peels, lasers, etc are contraindicated while you're on accutane
@nabila58443 жыл бұрын
yeahh, last year when i take 20mg Accutane, my skin superr sensitif, that time i do exfoliating just otc product, toner glycolid acid 7%, with lactid 1,2% and Bha 2%, and my face is burn.. after that i feel maybe i’ve damage skin barrier, i don’t know it happens because i’m on accutane. but now i know the reason, so last month i’ve lots of acne again, i take 10mg accutane, purging, and i use exfo toner and nothing happens (not burn at all) but i was scared my face will burn sometimes, and i use azelaic acid gentle acid, safe for sensitif skin, every morning

I did high dose for 6 months for minor but persistent acne. BEST.THING.EVER. Lol. It's been a few years and I've had like less than 5 zits since I finished. And yes, it's true. Accutane will make the skin healthier and younger looking and fuller. It's Vitamin A after all. My derm told me lots of celebrities take a low dose 1-2 times a week for anti-aging benefits and just to keep the skin refined and poreless.

I did an 8 month round of it a couple years ago and have NOT regretted it for a second. Also glad to hear your symptoms have been minor! I experienced all the horror story ones - constant bloody noses, repeatedly catching pink eye, terrible joint pain and stiffness, sensitive gums, post traumatic IBS after a stomach bug, and insane dryness that lasted at least a year after I finished my course. Still, worth it. Now I only really get breakouts when I'm off my birth control for those placebo days. For anyone curious, my holy grail products included aquaphor on my lips (the OG formula is thicker and has more staying power than the one actually advertised as lip balm), first aid beauty moisturizer (the richest one they offer), and Elta MD sunscreen (again, the richest one you can get). I also got a few UPF shirts and jackets for when I was going to be in the sun - it was easier than reapplying sunscreen and kept me protected while I was super sensitive.
@KLLGGG3 жыл бұрын
@@LipstickCafe it's only really just begun to get "oily" again, and it's a pretty small amount of oil. I was a grease slick before and now I still consider my skin to be dry and only beginning to slightly push into the normal category. I still need to use the super rich FAB and Elta MD products I was using while on Accutane, but my skin is definitely beginning to produce a bit more of its own oils. It's not enough for me to need to blot throughout the day, though. It's worth noting I don't wear foundation and can get away without setting my concealer if I want to, but sometimes use a light finishing powder to blur pores. If I wore foundation, I think I'd be oilier.

Did the accutane cause the IBS?
@KLLGGG Жыл бұрын
@@MissMichixo hard to know if it was what caused the general IBS I’ve had the last few years because it’s something that you can develop at any point in life, however, I am sure the post traumatic IBS (which lasted a few weeks) I experienced when I got the stomach bug while on accutane was caused by the accutane. The mucous membranes of my lower digestive tract just could not protect themselves from trauma during the stomach bug or repair themselves very well while dried out from the accutane.

It’s in the baby section because it’s actually marketed as a nipple cream when breastfeeding, but it’s amazing as a lipbalm. Comes out clear and glossy, can be used under or over other lip colours or also at night... Its thick but not sticky, stays on for ages... The best, and so cheap. I wish more people knew about this.

I am one of the young cousins so guess its my turn! Thank you at putting me at ease before my appt today. I was felt like I have had "pizza face" lol (and body) for far to long and it was beginning to make me shy away from physical affection from anyone because I was embarrassed, felt disgusting, and felt dirty even though I had to shower every day because of all the dang OIL! With 21 my skin again started to breakout very badly even worse then before - so I started another isotretinoin lowdose cure which I was on around 8-9 months. At the same time where I stopped my isotretinoin I also did come off the pill. I didn‘t have any breakouts for around 6 months and then it slowly started to flare up again. It‘s again getting really bad at the moment and I‘m just sitting here thinking of going back on isotretinoin, since having acne is just so frustrating. But always remember you‘re not alone!

And try to skip makeup as often as possible. Don’t pick your blemishes and try to keep your fingers away from your face! And please don’t try out so many different products! My chin and around my mouth is the worst broken out, with the deep painful cystic bumps. Another thing I've noticed is every pore on my nose and inner cheeks are packed with blackheads. However... The oiliness is definitely gone and my skin feels like it's getting smoother in areas where it's not purging.

This was similar to my experience. A month after my acne came back and I had a ton of closed comodones and forehead acne. Last time I had this much forehead acne I was a teenager. I finished my course over a year ago but because of Covid-19 I haven't gone back to my dermatologist. My skin is much oilier than before and I had oily skin to begin with. Sigh, having hormonal acne kind of sucks haha. I think I have accepted it is what it is 😅 Hopefully, I dont have more breakouts when I get married 🤞

I was on a super low dose of Oratane for about 7 months. I broke out SO bad around the 2-3 month mark. I previously had acne for 12 years spanning from teenage acne to adult hormonal acne, and it was like hundreds of cysts all under my skin. During the purge phase all the cysts came to the surface and it was really satisfying but my skin looked terrible :/ after that it was a slow improvement until maybe the 6 month mark where I was finally clear! My lips definitely suffered the worst but my skin was actually doing ok! And I didn’t have to wash my hair for weeks at a time haha I lived on the Hamilton’s Urederm from chemist warehouse and rosehip oil and for lips for some reason paw paw cream was the only thing that worked. Wishing everyone who is on it atm the best of luck! It’s so worth it!!

@@karimamckimmie No worries!! My full treatment period was 7-8 months, I started on 10mg a day for the first 2 months, then up to 20mg the third and fourth month, and then I stepped up to 30mg for the last few months. Normal dose is usually around 60mg per day but apparently if you go that high you definitely get more side effects. I was happy to do a longer treatment with less side effects :)

I was on acccutane too. I got prescribed for 6 months but my acne was gone by 20 days. I still kept taking it. My skin was perfect. I used lots of acids, retinol, and moisturizer at that time. Few months after i completed i treatment, i got into a little birth control pill issue. I got acne again and i was put back on accutane for 2 months. Now it has been 2 years since. My skin is great. Hi Karima I am a little late to the video but if you could reply!! I am about to start accutane and am so thankful to see your video since I have been frightened by a majority of what I see online.... one thing you did not talk about in your journey video was any sexual related side effects... I’ve watched your Chanel for years had no idea you started to get adult / hormonal acne that sucks! I went on roaccutane when I was around 21 best thing I ever did. I’m not 28 and had a bad bout of acne and it was the protein custard I tried. For some reason I’m fine with whey protein powder but can’t have casein protein. Must be something to do with the type of dairy. Anyways just thought I’d share that in case you have protein shakes too :)

Hey! It is so nice to follow your accutane yourney. I am from Amsterdam, we call the roaccutane here. My skin was similar to you, my dermatologist said it was hormonal acne and I am on a dosis of 30mg a day (and I am tall so that is a low dosis too). Are you aware of the 'minimal dosis' of 120mg per kg body weight? My dermatologist uses a different approach: when my skin is clear (which is now), than another 2 months of accutane. But I am afraid that the acne will come back, because on the internet I find so many people who reach the minimal dosis of 120mg per kg body weight. I am really curious if some people have other experiences with this! Let me know!
@niigata41583 жыл бұрын
Hi. I have just started taking reaccutane. And it’s 120/150mg per kg. I am 66kg. So you do 66kg x 150mg=9,900mg in total I need to use of this medication. It’s accumulative dose. Dermatologist told me to take 40mg daily. So you multiply 40mg x 30 days=1200mg a month. So all in all I need to take it 8 and a half months.

My dermatologist asked me to do more 6 months. Let me quote her: "It's simple, if you're still having breakouts after 9 months, then it means we can't stop yet...So we need to do 3 to 6 more months....The full protocol is actually to use roaccutane for 6 to 18 months." . Read as many of the Oral Isotretinoin studies as you can. I know they're boring but it's the only real way to educate yourself on the risks. I am on 80mg! I got on it shortly after your first video. You kind of inspired me to to go ahead with it and am so glad I went for it! My back is currently clear and face is much better!! The purge of all the clogged comedones was very satisfying... I have noticed joint pain and a lot of dryness (of course) and very minor bloody noses! I used to create POOLS of oil and now, my makeup looks so much better and I only have to wash my hair twice a week! I love looking ‘clean.’ I am so glad I am on it and wish I did it sooner (I am 23) but subconsciously can’t wait to get off of it (medication scares me). Also, if you’re on a low-dose, how many months will you be on it? What sunscreens do you use?! :) P.S.-Just now saw the sunscreens! My favorites are the hydro peptide solar defense spf 50, and the Verdio spf 50 Japanese sunscreen! ALSO, Do you watch Dr. Dray here on KZbin?! 😀💐

I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this but my skin now can’t stand foundation - it settles around my pores and looks horrible!! I’ve also experienced eye and lip dryness, and joint pain.
