As a dermatologist and long time watcher i truly appreciate how you talked about this treatment. So often patients with severe acne decline or delay their treatment out of fear, mostly based on inaccurate information. Every tip you gave is 10/10. Great work

Hi i’m currently on lymecycline and i’m two weeks in and supposed to be on it for 2 months and i’m not seeing any improvement. i’ve noticed i’m breaking out way more and my GP said i shouldn’t be but told me to keep taking it. I’ve tried a lot of things that’s why i’ve now resorted to antibiotics. My acne isn’t cystic but is moderate and persistent. I was wondering if you HAVE TO take contraception when on accutane even if you’ve never been sexually actively and don’t plan on being sexually active

I also took “accutane” (Epuris) my perception was that a lot of the scary stories that people had were about the drug that our parents’ generation took. My understanding is that there have been a number of improvements to the formula and dosages since then. Like Karima I also had a perfectly fine experience with side effects that I would categorize as annoying at worst.

I just wanted to say women under-reporting symptoms is a HUGE thing in healthcare. its also a reason why many female-dominated professions like nursing just make do with such bad situations in their work environment (although there is of course the problem with sexism towards female-dominated professions and wage etc but lets not open that can of worms). Along with females underreporting, many medical studies in the past were done on majority male subjects and symptoms are sometimes different in women.

If it helps anyone out there: I have been on accutane more than once. My husband has also been on it. His experience...gosh he looked like hell and it tore up his lips but honestly he just wasn't diligent with applying moisturizers and balms. By the second time around I honestly had zero issues with my lips. What I used was a combo of Dr. Dan's Cortibalm (it's nothing fancy but it has hydrocortisone), Palmer's Cocoa Butter Sticks and Nuxe's Rêve de Miel balm (pot not stick, don't do yourself dirty). Cortibalm helps with inflamation and the "tears that just won't stop opening". Palmer's conditioned and moisturized. Nuxe's balm prevented additional moisture loss and to this day I can apply it before bed and wake up with it still on my lips.

Man because I'm post-lung transplant and have to take medication with severe side effects every day for the rest of my life to stay live, it's so interesting that there are people who are afraid of a drug like this. It's a miracle!
@paolaarletty65252 жыл бұрын
I completely understand your point and intrigue as to why some may fear a drug compared to something as intense as an organ transplant. I have family members who have had organ transplants, too. And it is miraculous Though, Accutane is a very serious drug and one must not undermine its seriousness / effects solely because it is targeted to treat acne. Acne is a serious skin condition that alters people’s self esteem, life; their every waking moment. It is also physically painful and uncomfortable. It’s terrible living with acne 🥺 The fact that it causes severe birth defects to a fetus should confirm how serious accutane is, so fearing it is a natural feeling. However, I do believe it is wise to consider it for those with severe acne and even moderate face and body acne like myself. Listening to the horror stories really scares me, but my yearning for clear skin and the medical advances since those specific bad cases, I am willing to try accutane. Plus, this video encouraged me since I happen to have moderate acne like Karima once had. By the way, a lung transplant is incredible. Wishing you well 🥰

Ugh, I'm only 15 days into 30mg of isotretinoin. I had absolutely clear skin just a few months ago but increased mask use and stress led to me breaking out really bad, in fact worse than ever before. So in distress, I took to KZbin and watched all these isotretinoin videos and decided to take the plunge seeing their perfect, cured skin. I was so hoping it was just a freak thing that would go away soon but it is not. The purging now is getting to me, I really don't like to be seen anymore, and the nose bleeds and joint pain are uncomfortable. Although my acne is much more severe than yours was, it makes me hope that I have the same results watching your journey. I hope the process is worth it and that I don't relapse. I have to say, it is quite a process with the derm, the blood work, iPledge, and the pharmacy.

@spongebob115673 ай бұрын
I AM SO SORRY. KZbin didn't notify me of any of these responses??? Idk. But anyway. So, it's been three years. During that round, I was put on a dosage of up to 90 per day, but I can truly say that iPledge in the States was a total nightmare. I remember the website having problems for about a month, and then I lost my insurance, so I was only on this phase of isotretinoin for about four months until I just couldn't receive any more. And for a time, it seemed to cure most of my acne; it pretty much wasn't there anymore, but I had a lot of scarring. About six months later, my acne actually started coming back. I ended up having to purchase my isotretinoin elsewhere (India). I wouldn't advise this method because I had no blood tests or medical checkups, but yeah. I stocked up on six months of isotretinoin for only $150 from an official Indian pharmacy (I have a friend who got me the deal; it's legit. Again, I would not advise it since it was not under medical observation), and my acne went away. It was awful to go through, and I do get small pimples still, but I just put on benzoyl peroxide each night, and I have clear skin now for about 1.5 years, and a lot of my scars have faded. I just have a few, but they aren't so bad anymore. I don't regret the treatment! It's been much healthier for me mentally.

Hey guys I'm a dermatologist. So I'm answering your common questions: 1) purging chances are higher if you take 40mg or higher dose and lesser if you take 20 mg. 2) Don't use in pregnancy. It will cause miscarriage. If you have acne during pregnancy take doxycycline tablet on doc advice. Or use clindamycin lotion. I advice not to take acne medication in pregnancy as it's mostly hormonal so eat well 3) Think positive while taking medication. It has a lot of effect. Think that it will heal you. Pray for yourself. 4) Don't take this unless your doctor recommend otherwise it will cause eye , kidney or liver damage. 5) Best time to take is night. And always take medicine at same time each day. 6) Never chew these capsules . Just swallow 7) acne may worsen in the start don't panic . It damage is severe low your dosage. 8) apply Sunscreen because it makes your skin extra sensitive to sunrays. 9) Avoid wax , bleach , any skin procedures while taking is

What was your dose?
@janosbakos40783 жыл бұрын
I’ve been on it twice, it relapsed twice. 1st at 80mg, the 2nd time on 20mg due to the extreme side affects on the 80mg dose. I was also given it with different info to you, i was told to take a maintenance dose of 20mg per week for 2 years after i completed the main course, i never took the 20mg for 2 years due to those extreme side affects and all its improvements reversed, literally. As for the scarring, it does help, or i thought it did. Examples are small pitted, raised scar, and deep pitted scar. My Drs never looked anywhere else in the skin apart from those scars, they were only judging what it was doing to them. I take the drug, i start getting swellings in the skin, like it says in the drugs leaflets. The raised scar, not nice but as dead as can be starts swelling up, yet it was dead ? It goes extremely sore. Hair growth starts appearing in it. It stays swelled up for weeks/months then suddenly falls down flat like it was never their ever, and just looked like normal skin, but felt sore as hell. The small pitted scars were getting less depth to them, the hole were closing. The big pitted(canyon type hole) all around it was hair less so it was even more noticeable. Their used to be one hair growing out of the hole itself that regularly used to get trapped inside it and i’d have to fish it out with a needle. So again same again, swelling in and around the hole, it looked like mike tyson had smacked me, the swellings were huge. Again sore as hell in and around it. Hair growth popping out from everywhere in and around the canyon. The swellings went down suddenly. Again the hole got far less depth to it, and again was closing up, so looked far better, less noticeable, even more so with far more hair growth in and around it, when their was only 1 single hair in and around before. But although it all looked far better it all felt extremely sore. All of it improvements were reversing/did reverse despite my doctors saying that would not happen if i never took that maintenance dose. So although it does help scarring it does it with complications.

Thank you for this video! Soon i’ll be starting 10-20mg for 10 months+ My acne is mild-moderate but extremely persistent and ive had it for 15 years and been using 0.1% tretinoin for 2 years which has helped alot but I still get some intense cystic breakouts sometimes so I’m finally trying accutane and i’m TERRIFIED, some of these reddit threads are terrifying
@mzjackofalltrades216 ай бұрын
Hi there, please don’t be terrified. Of course there can be risks of side effects, but everyone is different and the most important thing is to be self aware and communicate with your treating healthcare provider. I had severe cystic acne for some years, couldn’t take accutane at the time although I tried (long story) and I felt defeated. Thank God through prayer and a process of dietary changes my body healed and I never got cystic acne again, but I was left with bad scarring. I’ve been clear for about 8 years but I get little tiny zits here and there and am very oily. I want to finally treat the scarring and need to be 100% clear for microneedling /maybe lasers in the future, so I decided to talk to my derm about low dose accutane. He agreed that I should take a low dose every other day for about 6 months. I am so happy that even though I ended up taking this drug I can now do a low dose whereas before I’d need something much stronger with how bad my skin was. If you’re able to do a low dose for your acne and stop the cysts, trust me it’s the best thing you can do to prevent more scarring. Wish you the best on your skin journey, I believe all will go well for you!! 🙏🏼💕

I also did not like being a dry skin gal, I missed my oily skin and my regular skincare and makeup, it completely changed while I was on it. I would definitely recommend SPIRONOLACTONE for the younger gals. I have too much going on to wonder what exactly was doing the funny business for me. Caution - I developed DISH (Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis) decades after using Accutane, and in researching DISH, prior use of Accutane is listed as a risk factor for developing the disease. DISH causes calcification of the ligaments of the lumbar & cervical spine. It essentially fuses segments of your vertebrae together over a period of many years. At the time I was considering using Accutane, one of the side effects listed was “skeletal changes”. In hindsight, I wish I had not used Accutane. My use was low-dose and relatively short, but I suspect it triggered the disease process.

My acne did shift from huge cystic acne on my chin/nose to just acne and bumps everywhere, mostly on my forehead (which I stopped getting after puberty). I've accepted it is what it is and everyone's results can't all be the same. Accutane works wonders for a lot of people, many who had worse acne than me prior. But it isn't a solution for everyone, so if it didnt work for you don't be discouraged. @@hannahr1304 Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Was it because of Accutane? 😯 How is your skin and your health now?
@hannahr13042 жыл бұрын
@@FB-im7zb I think Accutane definitely played a role in it. I’m still not able to digest foods correctly and I’m going back to the doctor soon to get a colonoscopy to see which disease it could possibly be. My skin has minor breakouts but nothing horrible. It is not as clear as it was on Accutane though.

Love your results! One question, did your birth control pill help with your acne too? I’m only in my first month of accutane but I’m already seeing amazing results and i guess it’s because the pills are doing something too(?). I started accutane after having used tretinoin for two months and yeah it kinda worked but i still had crazy breakouts but after only 3 weeks of isotretinoin i was amazed, but still wondering why it’s working that quickly with me

I took it a decade ago but also had super fast results and wasn't on BC! It just us happens to work quickly and really great for some of us

Since BC pills regulate your hormones you will see an improvement with acne.

For majority of adults isotretinoin will not "cure" acne permanently. Relapse is almost inevitable , thou acne might be less severe. Life time treatment with low dose is the only way to retain the results.

Just be mindful this treatment does work but in the long term acne can come back. I had flare ups 6 years later and went on another 6 month corse. Then when I fell pregnant a couple years later rapid the hormone changes came, I was like a teenager again. I decided that in my 30s to focus on diet and regular facials and skincare to help keep the more cystic pimples at bay I could live with the superficial white and black heads. Good luck.

Hi Karima, what kind of beauty products (creams, cleancer,) (gentle, peeling,oil..) did you use? and did you do some cosmetic treatments like microneedling or chemical peelings? thank you a lot!! xx

I started getting cystic acne about 6 yrs ago. (Its hereditary in my case). Always broke out but not until 6 yrs ago did it become cystic. I got on accutane i believe 30 mg. It cleared up really well for about 5 yrs, but since the masks it started getting really bad again. I had to go to a different dermatologist that accepted my insurance and she prescribed antibiotics and creams, but it doesn't seem to help. I finally was able to get an appointment with my old dermatologist hoping i can get back on accutane. I have heard that its in the works for an acne vaccine, and i hope it's coming soon lol

coming from a year after this video was posted. i'm curious, after a year of finishing accutane, did your skin get back to the old normal of being oily & acne prone or did it continue to be new normal of clearing up, no longer oily & normal skin?

My dermatologist sent me 20mg 3 times per week for 2 months (my weight is 50kg), i finished week 3 and acne is still the same, i dont know if 2 months will be enough to get rid of it 😭😭😭

Some doctors are so bad and don’t listen. You may need another one because 2 months is ridiculous lmao even for very mild acne its just too little not to mention youre not taking it everyday.
