Ace is someone who doesn't express how much he cares about someone. He tends to mock and annoy his friends to show his affection and I can understand that honestly. The thing is that it still can be hurtful and after that scene in Book 5 I noticed that Ace wasn't mean to Deuce anymore. He said it was okay for Deuce to keep his money after the festival and in Book 7 you even see him studying with us grim and Deuce and not making any silly remarks. I think Ace is growing little by little and the fact that he changed so much in the main story show how much he cares about his friends :) And soon enough when we will have a close up shot on how much he changed, we will see his unique magic

Ace defintly has a large ego, leading to his teasing i think, but i do see them as really good friends. That might just be because their dynamic reminds me heavily of my 2 best friends tho, you'd think they were rivals of the highest caliber just from hearing them talk, all the insults, until ya find out their roomates and do nearly everything together And Ace teases most everyone (although not to their faces if he fears them), Deuce and Grim i think get the brunt of it tho because they ARE very close, he even takes jaba at the prefect. I think the best illostrator of how close they really are is Aces halloween vigenette, where he has a whole conflict where he felt stupid for worrying so much over his "friends"(he uses the word begrudging although its clear to others they're all besties), he clearly cares for these individuals deeper than he wants to admit

i can't take EN translation as gospel ever... but even seeing it here, it's a bit confusing how people think they're friendlier to each other than they are 💀 anyway it's interesting knowing how ace actually worries about people, so there's probably some insecurities too - i just wish he was more emotionally open. deuce is an earnest type, so it's pretty easy to understand him - and i feel frustrated every time the others call him stupid (highlighted in Jack too, that part really annoyed me) sigh................... they're always gonna be yuu's best friends (coughyuusboyfriendscough) love em to death despite their stupid moments

Why do i think Ace's dream would be of his exgirlfriend and him having a fairy tale romance or reveal that he is a prince? Idk why but i feel like either is possible. I keep imagining that the Queendom of Roses has some rule that prevents mages from inheriting the throne as a reference to the Queen of Hearts not being a mage and probably justifying it as how power can corrupt or his ex broke his heart when his powers manifested, probably during a particularly traumatic moment for the both of them, because she had an irrational fear of mages. Either possibility could say alot about Ace. Being wrongfully punished or hurt for having magic and deciding to be the jerk he is as a way to cope.
