A couple episodes ago, we were talking to Pierce about Selena's fiancée. Phoenix asked him "So where is her fiancée now?" to which Pierce responded "...Good question. I wonder that sometimes myself." The way Pierce said that - now that we know that *he* was the fiancée - kinda seems like Pierce is at least somewhat aware that he's losing control of his life. He wonders "where" the fiancée is now, not literally, but metaphorically

The hidden in plain sight bits of evidence are always so satisfying to finally see click into place. The revelation of the pocket watch is that much more impactful when you realise how many times we've seen Pierce gazing at it as we've talked to him throughout the case. It's not just that we know he owns it still but that it is something he constantly finds himself focusing on.

Larry would have been a great character if he developed over time. But he becomes gradually more immature, and is more an obstacle that sets certain parts of the plot forward, and just an overall trouble maker, even after 7 years later. It’s a shame given he is supposed to be important to Nick’s backstory and part of the reason he became a lawyer. He had that one moment of awesome helping Edgeworth’s trial, but since then, he’s just a liability

So, the pocket watch was the FIRST thing I noticed about Pierce, especially once Selena's picture was added to the court record WAY back at the start of the chapter - once I made that connection it immediately solidifed to me that Pierce was gonna be important somehow, because I went- "Why would we have something like that? Shouldn't Sorin have it?" But once we learned about the "surgeon" that was present during Selena's death, it all clicked for me and I had been WAITING for this moment for the entire case.

33:58 Yeah I’ve thought about this too; if Selena was engaged to the fiancée, and the fiancée was actually Pierce, then it’s weird that no one knew that beforehand, unless Selena hadn’t introduced her family to her fiancée yet, and wasn’t planning to do so until the engagement party. It’s also weird how, if Pierce was the surgeon on that day, Sorin never questioned how he suddenly appeared as his butler all of a sudden later (although, it’s possible that Sorin has no memory of what exactly happened that day due to his condition. And he probably wasn’t writing things down in his notebook yet at the time. So he probably doesn’t even remember that Pierce was the surgeon who operated on him and Selena.)
@FatalHog2 ай бұрын
Eh, thats one of those narrative things that generally gets swept under the rug, if the characters in the story dont acknowledge it, it doesnt really exist, especially with the idea in mind as well that the people who worked under Sorin and the like dont exist to us the player due to not being important for the story's goals. Thus, swept under the rug.

Another note that I feel like isn't addressed enough is this. Why exactly would Pierce KNOW what Selena's final words were? More particularly, why would she directly tell him? We already know based on that Pierce told us previously that "She told the surgeon to take care of Sorin" which granted would be taken as a double meaning thing due to the fact that its suppose to be like "save sorin, not me" but now its the literal thing. The reason I mention this is the fact that Pierce knew these final words was suspect enough from the get go, without telling us directly.

22:30 Now that we know the victim was struck twice, possibly by two different people, and that there was most likely a lag between the two blows, something we’ve learned may make sense. It’s possible that Sorin was the one who actually wrote, “I struck and killed Dumas,” in his notebook, but it’s because at the time, he believed that to be true. In other words, he’s the one who delivered the FIRST blow, but he believed that blow killed Mr. Gloomsbury, while it actually only knocked him unconscious. So what he wrote in the book was actually what he believed to be true. But then, Pierce later removed the page, maybe to make Sorin doubt his own memory and confess to Ellen being the killer instead of himself(which ultimately, did, end up happening.) Although, the reality is even weirder, because since there was a time lag between both blows, it’s possible that NEITHER of them was the real killer.

@nickmathur59504 ай бұрын
33:49 Also, think about this, for someone to want revenge on Sorin for Selena’s death, that person would have to KNOW that Sorin was the one who actually caused the accident. Obviously we know that Gloomsbury knew this, since he was made to take the blame. And we know that Sorin’s father knew this, since he’s the one who made Gloomsbury take the blame in the first place, but what reason would Sorin’s father have to do all this? That leaves the fiancée. The fiancée would know, despite what the newspapers said, that Sorin was the one responsible; since he was the surgeon on the day of the accident, he would know what ACTUALLY happened that day. In other words, he would be one of only a few people who knew that Sorin caused the accident, not Gloomsbury. And as Selena’s fiancée, that would put him in a position to want revenge.

After all this time, we finally have an Ace Attorney case where we can proclaim that stock murder mystery phrase: the butler did it. Honestly, Pierce either thought no one would connect the dots about his relation to Selena, or he couldn’t let go of such a sentimental trinket, but if it wasn’t for that watch, I doubt anyone would have made the connection. Also, damn, Larry, making yourself look even worse by saying we should’ve accused Sorin just so you could have a chance with Ellen. You may not have it in you to commit murder, and you may be a talented artist, but you’re still not a very good person.

It's funny you mention Edgeworth seeming grumpier than usual at the start of the episode, as that's the exact complaint I've heard commonly and consistently used against the case. That Edgeworth is *too* nasty, to the point of being out of character. Yes, you could argue that he's taking the stress of his position and cleaning house at the prosecutor's office out on Nick. But even in Dual Destinies, when he had this whole "The truth isn't pretty" mindset his performance in court was, at worst, bickering with Phoenix like they were an old married couple. And it did feel like he pivoted to working with Phoenix to tee things up for Blackquill to take over. This case, though? It almost feels like they forgot Nahyuta isn't in this case, because Edgeworth feels similarly nasty and mean-spirited. It does genuinely feel out of character for me, and it's one of the reasons I'm lukewarm on this case as a whole. It's a pity this is, currently, the "last" case in the Ace Attorney timeline, because it felt like a much weaker note to end off on than Turnabout Revolution. I generally skip this case if I'm replaying Spirit of Justice. It doesn't do anything for me. If we do get an AA7, I'd rather they have Edgeworth function like he did in that case, using his position to help in our investigations. Have Blackquill or Franziska or Klavier or, hell, even Nahyuta serve in the "past rival prosecutor returns to the bench for the last case" roll. Or, hey, now that AAI2 has been officially localized, throw us a real curveball and show Eustace Winner as an actually competent prosecutor.
@bengarrett49843 ай бұрын
I disagree. I think Edgeworth is the same as always. In Dual Destinies he helped Phoenix because that served his agenda: setting Blackquill free. Edgeworth has never shied away from expressing blunt or even hurtful criticism of those around him. Phoenix, Gumshoe, Franziska, various rivals from the investigations games. People just romanticize Edgeworth as kinder than he actually is.

26:35 you can tell by the smudging of the ink. If it smudges towards the right, it means the hand was on the right side of the pen. Of course, a skilled penman writing calmly on an even surface won't smudge the ink, and most modern byros don't smudge, but a note written in haste with a fountain pen will almost always have some smudging.
