6:00 That part of the riff played at the slower tempo sounds like the basis of 'Strange Ways'. Its really amazing how you can hear different part of their other songs incorporated in to their other tunes, and subtlely!

That was definitely one of the best .

One of my favorite Kiss tunes. Thank you John so much for every second of your time. You break these songs down beautifully and explain things in plain English. I hope it's not April 2014 before we see another....thanks again!

Thanks John, your lessons are always so helpful. Hadn't considered Parasite, but now it's next on the list! I've been working on a number of KISS songs lately... Jakob and I got God of Thunder down (thanks for that) and then I went on to Firehouse, Detroit Rock City, Christine Sixteen, Love Gun & Rocket Ride. I'm working up to taking a shot at Black Diamond if you would be interested in a lesson on that beast..

Hi. Ace is also my main influence as a lead guitarist. I own an Epiphone Les Paul standard Plustop Pro and a Line 6 Spider Classic 15 amp. I wouls like to knoq what guitar and amp settings to tweak in order to have Ace's sound and tone? Thanks Sheldon.

thanks so much. I know 2 of the 3 main riffs. the riff that starts it I couldn't figure out. now I got it. thanks bro. I watch wlphantom for my kiss videos. they are not tutorials but I have figured out about 15 or so kiss songs or parts of them. only a few songs I can do all the way. thanks a ton. been 1.5 years playing. I don't play a ton and learn mainly from wlphantoms videos. but I just learned this from you. thanks

Great lesson! Which amp settings did you use here?
@flashboy202011 жыл бұрын
Great lesson, John, as always. But I think you're mistaking with the 1st part of the solo. At 7:33 or so you say it's 5, 3, 0 (on the D-string) and 5, 3, 1 on the A-string, but it's 5, 3 (on the D-string) then 5 on the A-string (same note of course as open D-string like you play it) and THEN 3, 1 on the A-string and 3 on the E-string (according to me and all the TABs I've consulted, including a KISS guitar tab book I bought). Let me know what you think and can't wait for the next video!
@kylehammond834511 жыл бұрын
Hey John great to see something new from you. You were gone quite a while. As I listening to your playing I got to wondering what kind of amp your using. Just such a great sound. I've been looking for something a lot better than what I currently have which is just a little modeling modeling amp.
@AceFrehleyLesPaul11 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle !I use a Traynor YCS50, 1x12 combo amp. Made in Canada ... so it's one of the only North American made amps that ISN'T in the boutique-type amp category. Not that a boutique amp is a bad thing ... they're just damn expensive. Lol !! My Ace setting are pretty simple ... Treble = 7, Mid = 10, Bass = 8, Gain = 4 - 6, Reverb = 4 - 5, Presence = 4. These are the settings I've always used in the videos and even back when I was doing the Kiss tribute stuff.

Hey John, do you got any info on how did Ace set the action on strings back in the seventies?
@AceFrehleyLesPaul11 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam ! To be honest, I have no idea how Ace set up his guitars in the '70s. I know that the Budokans and The 300 were pretty much set to Gibson factory standards, which is 2/32" for the pickup heights on both strings as well as at the 12th fret for the high E string and 3/32" string height for the low E string, at the 12th fret. Obviously, the middle pickup was always dropped way down, to get it out of the way.
@thenewyorkpauls8 жыл бұрын
Have read interviews with Ace where he says he doesn't like super-low action for lead playing, but that was probably in the late 90s?

It ain't as easy as he says,it's easy to say when you have been playing for years, it would take at least 12 months of playing that everyday to get it perfect.
