I went to see Kiss at the Capitol Center , Largo Maryland, in 1978 and they really put on a great show. They were supporting their album Kiss alive 2. They played all their hits like Love Gun, Destroyer, Christine 16, God of Thunder and they rocked the place. I was only 13 then but have fond memories of the show. For all the good and bad said about the 4 original members remember they are human beings just like you and I. So weather you like them or not just enjoy the music, or don't.

When i first heard kiss alive with aces blues rock leads. That was it. i was learning drums at the time. A few days later i had a les paul copy guitar and a small amp. Still play guitar & drums to this day. But Ace is the reason i started playing guitar. I still love that album after 40 years. It's to bad about all the shit that went down with kiss. But i glad for the time the original members did have together. The live album is kiss at their best. And will forever remain the best live album ever made in my book.

In the 1970s, Ace was the only thing approaching a guitar virtuoso in the band. Ace was a decent enough lead guitarist. He may not have been among the best, but, his talent towerd over Gene and Paul's. I think that it's sad, and yes, Gene and Paul can be crass, and tend to come off as more in love with money than the music. But together, they found a niche, they filled it and made a mint. Hooray for them. But during the time, in the 70s, the make up, the pyro, the show was over the top and having been to many of them myself there was NOTHING like it at the time. Unfortunate that it has collapsed to this.

Which I did and consider myself to be as about as good as Ace is. Which these days don't amount to crap! lol, but I can totally understand Ace, he's just a regular guy that had decent guitar playing skills (for the times), got in a band , got lucky in the times and had the ultimate rock n roll dream come true. Kiss fan from 1976 onward. Ace Frehley was this bands sound and creativity. Without Ace, KISS would not have ever made it. Gene has a shit personality, Paul is gay and pompous, Peter was a good guy, but a jazz drummer. Ace was the true rock and roller. Gene gets all the press, but Ace is fucking awesome. I have been a Kiss fan since 76 as well and Ace is my favorite member, but he was a drug addict for decades. Paul has been married twice, 5 kids, not one person, not one has ever come forward to prove Paul has ever done anything gay. when Ace and Peter sold the rights to their makeup, it became no longer their makeup. +Pietro Psalm addiction is a disease in your eyes, maybe for half the drug addicts but it is also a choice you make to do drugs, nobody with a gun to your head. I disagree about Ace being the only talent, it takes talent to be a good songwriter, vocalist, and performer and Paul has great talent, he carried the band for years while members ran off or were fired.

+Cee Er well that's your opinion, I happen to strongly disagree about Paul. if you have listened to every KISS album and watched them in concert several times, you might have a different opinion. Paul wrote the majority of the good Kiss songs, and in his prime especially the 80's between his vocal range, stage moves, control of the audience, and song writing, only Roth could touch him, again just my opinion. Ace could have been even better on guitar if he didn't get strung out and practiced more. lol

The relationships among the original members of KISS is truly illustrative of the old adage "Three Sides to Every Story". A lot of what Ace says in these interviews is largely true...as Ace remembers it. But there are multiple sides of what is true in the group. It is also true that Ace could wind up being pretty unreliable because of his addictions--and because he foremost wanted to have fun! But KISS, ultimately, had become not just a band of musicians, but a financial institution...and, in certain ways, a kind of entertainment and merchandising machine. Peter and Ace chafed under that approach; Paul and Gene learned to embrace that. Peter became very uncooperative, feeling he was being yoked under more controlling scenarios--TWICE. Ace, similarly, became VERY unreliable--TWICE. Gene and Paul, while it always appears very cold, simply decided to make a BUSINESS decision, and replace those guys with ones they felt could keep the Machine running. It's a little tragic. It always feels...I dunno...cheap. But in the end, Paul and Gene decided "We're going to do what's best for 'The Business of KISS' to keep this thing running." It's just we hate watching bands be anything other than trying to be musicians / artists. But, ultimately, money tends to make these machines run, and Bands that find themselves successful, ultimately, become Companies.

I read Ace's autobiography "No Regrets". Enjoyable to read the story from his recollections - and in his own words is undeniably irresponsible, unreliable, and completely unprofessional. Watch him performing "Shock Me" (a great song) completely drunk. Then watch Tommy Thayer do it justice. That said, no complaints about Ace when I saw him in Sydney in 1997. The volume was too loud for the venue and detracted from what would have been a perfect concert (apart from loss of audio during the smoking/flying guitar stunt and Paul and Ace stuck on their cherrypicker - it was a fun "Spinal Tap" moment that I'm sure they still laugh about) . Overall, they have a lot to be proud of. Enough with the bickering!

assuming what Gene says is 100% true that there was periods of time when Ace would not show up for practice and or so drunk or drugged out of his mind. I can see why Gene and Paulr would not want them playing with them ever again. I have not heard any of Peters interviews so I can comment on him. But i do feel at some point Paul and Gene should prob really consider putting the guitar down. KISS will always be the original 4 and it is a real shame they cant get their shit together and just accept the fact that the bands best days are long gone.

Ace is an absolute ultimate legend, but he is a volatile man. He doesn't want to play/behave in KISS. It's true that the new show isn't necessarily pure, but I think the ingredients of the KISS show are pretty simple, so the show, in many ways is probably better than ever. I think with new members like Thayer, they should create new characters. That wouldn't take anything away IMO.
