David Clark : the Beatles have always struck me as a boy band that later got high when it was popular. Alongside the music of the 60's-70's the Beatles are just a pop band. Their music pales in comparison to Hendricks, Sabbath, Pink Floyd etc...KISS and the Beatles are pop bands with catchy tunes for the time period. The Beatles were far more successful commercially though.

I always wondered why Kiss had lost their edge rather than progressing much more than they actually did. When you have a main player who loses interest in making better music because he's spending most of his time pursuing other interests, it's definitely going to negatively affect the musical progression of what should've been his main focus. The Gene Simmons I met was very kind. At the last minute my high school age daughter and 3 of her friends begged me to take them to the Gene Simmons appearance in Durham, North Carolina. I play and listen to bluegrass music and never listened to "Kiss" but I relented. The place was packed and we had to wait for a while in line. The event ended and the crew was packing up to go. I asked one of his handlers if the girls could meet him even though the signing was over. Gene Simmons overheard and waved the girls and myself up on the stage. The girls had a very sweet 15 minutes visit with him. He was a complete gentleman. As we were leaving the stage, he turned and smiled and asked me if they all were mine. I answered no, just the one, and then he thanked me for coming out. He did not need to make that extra time for us after a long day. He was and is a very nice man.

Paul's rant in his book is the worst in my opinion. I read Gene's book. He trashes ace and Peter, but has a whole chapter talking about what a great guy Paul Stanley is. Paul trashes all the other band members in his book, and takes no responsibility for anything that went wrong in the band.. He admits that he didn't want to be the band's spokesperson on the Mike Douglass show, then complains about how Gene handled it.

Through the years it became clear Paul thinks HE's the star in Kiss. Ok, he helped Kiss survive in the second half of the 80's with his poprock songs and ballads.
