I love Ace for what he played and how he looked in 1974- 1977 and the 1996 show. That's it. He didn't learn anything new on the guitar, and he didn't have to because people just hung on to the hero he was in the 70's.

I saw Ace last Friday in Marion Illinois. it was a strange show. He arrived 35 minutes late didn't thing he was going to show. he kept telling the soundman that his guitar was not loud then it got so loud it was over his vocals so he complained and belittled the sound man for 10 minutes. Told the light guy to shine spotlight on whoever was singing. then said to the crowd this isn't a nursing home its a rock show, took a drink of water and threw the glass bottle in the crowd twice saying this might wake you up. Then grabbed a can of silly string and sprayed it on the audience came back 3 more times but had canned smoke he was mad it wasn't silly string . His set list was pretty good opened with shock me ,played rocked rock several kiss cuts and 2 new cuts from the new album. it was great to see ace but a very strange show.

Seeing the elder rock stars still hustling and gossiping about former bandmates is part and parcel of trying to keep up the lifestyle they took for granted in the good old days. They have to earn the big bucks to pay for the real estate, the cars, the staff, the alimony, the manager, etc. The tough econmics hits them just as hard if not harder. Some bow out gracefully and live comfortably within their means, others not so much - their name and talent becomes an expendable commodity while their bodies and minds wear out trying to keep up.

Great show Ralph and I actually believe Gene when he says he makes more per show doing this solo stuff, as the KISS production was so huge and expensive that Paul automatically got the same as Gene, then paying Tommy, Eric and even manager Doc took a nice chunk right there, plus the road crew and the expenses of the pyro can't be cheap, so per show he's probably right, but KISS merchandise will forever be their bread and butter even without playing, as it will always be a goldmine. Love Ace, as he was my favorite back in the 70's, but with him wanting to come and go in the band as he pleases and with all his issues with drugs or alcohol, that ship sailed for me, although I still wish him the best and hopefully he's not back into drinking or drugs again, as it's hard enough to still perform in your 70's without being messed up. Ace talking crap about KISS at his shows will just piss off the hard core KISS fans and his shows will suffer in ticket sales eventually. Ace needs to just worry about his playing, putting on a great show and stop talking about his ex girlfriends and ex bandmates, because not many people actually care. Happy 4th of July Ralph and to all the Americans on here from your Canadian neighbor.

Ace Frehley has not improved as a guitar player since the 70s. He had a great style that fit the early KISS, but once the 80s rolled around he stopped improving. He was no match for the "shredders" of that era. He was simply living off his name as the former lead guitarist of KISS. I think all these guys like him, Guns And Roses, Crue, Sebastion Bach, Joe Biden... should just call it a day already. None of them can play anymore.
@stanleybroniszewsky85384 ай бұрын
If you ask me, one guitar player from the 80s that would blowout Ace and still can would be Jake E Lee. He's a very well rounded musician. Jake can write songs and is awesome on guitar. Gene and Paul should have hired him when Ace left. Jake is a monster on guitar and he doesn't use drugs. He always practiced martial arts, so that would have been a colossal boost for the band. Jake's only issue is he doesn't sing. But has Bruce ever sang a song on stage? Never. Only the one song on COS. Had KISS returned to the non makeup band, maybe Bruce would have sung it.

I was at the show at the Hard Rock in Orlando last week. This was my daughters first Ace show, after seeing Kiss 4 times on the End of the Road show, including the 2nd to last show in NYC. It was embarrassing. I have seen Ace 6 or 7 times over the last 10 years. None of them are perfect, but I always have had a great time. This show...I was worried about him. He kept leaning against Ryan for support, he almost fell over 2 or 3 times (and them shockingly did a leg kick with Jeremy later on LOL). He was forgetting what he was talking about, forgetting what songs they were going to play. My daughter kept asking me when it was going to end, and I was thinking to myself, not soon enough. There was a solo where he hit his open e string and it kept ringing out, drowning out his solo. It was all just so sloppy. Ryan, Jeremy and Scottie were tight, but once Ace got in the mix, it was a mess. The other thing that really surprised me was last time he played Hard Rock I had 2nd row for about $45 a seat. That show was so awesome. This time, those same seats were over $200. I knew what the show was going to be, no way I'm paying $200 a seat for that show. Hopefully that night was just an Anomaly for Ace. We all have off days, and I can't imagine being on the road and going through a breakup. Also, might be something about Orlando. He was a complete mess when Kiss played the Farewell tour here, but the next night in Tampa he was fine. I will always love the guy, and hearing about the breakup a day before the show I was kinda prepared for a bad show. But people need to be honest, that was a bad show. Hopefully it's not the last show I get to see, and the next one is great again.

When it comes to whether or not Gene is correct on making more money than KISS, I would say maybe his net take is more because of the costs KISS had when paying for a lot of things that maybe Gene doesn't pay now. I wouldn't think the gross pay is more. I would think it is less but also less costs so it might be true he's taking more pay doing solo tours. When it comes to Ace, I was amused watching that Orlando show and I saw it from start to finish and I thought it was funny how bad he played but then after a while it was getting boring like a joke told too may times. Chuck Berry was touring with just his guitar FIFTY years ago. The promoter would supply local musicians in each city to back Chuck as well as backline for the band.

😂🎉 this is the ONLY sorta KISS take I want to hear. The TRUTH!

Definitely would not let kiss. Use the song, Beth.. Peter Chris wrote that song way before he even joined Kiss and it is a masterpiece of a song from the band. It’s my favorite song from kiss .

The things Ace was saying between songs, he's absolutely unhinged. It's either drugs or his mind is going from old age, there's no in between.

Gene net worth 400 million. Peter net worth 5 million.

I would imagine that Gene's net worth has gone up now since they sold off the rights to everything for $300 million bucks.

Gene might be making more... he's keeping more and not paying the guitarist 300 a gig.
@ChampippleD4 ай бұрын
Gene is probably right about his share of take-home pay for playing the gig, but bands like Kiss make more money off the merch than the ticket, so overall he’s making way less.

Can't we just let these prehistoric hasbeens disappear into obscurity? People speak of them as if they're still relevant. Nothing new under the sun...same drama for decades.

I saw Ace on the last tour and it was bad I decided then I won't see ace again

He is from Planet Jendel, and he never got it together with gravity here on Earth. The Cosmic Rays are heavy in Florida this time of year. Space Invader!

Regarding the recent Orlando show you referenced, I checked it out myself. All I can say is I bet Ace is taking the breakup between he and Lara very hard. I think they were together 5 + yrs. That's no fling.

One of Gene facts is that it's based on per capita. He pockets more on his solo shows . Bigger piece of the pie. Low cost Ect.

He's worth over 300 million dollars...how much money can he need?

Supposedly, and he said it on his show, Ed Trunk talked Ace down "off the ledge" about throwing dirt on Paul. IDK. I can see Ace ready to throw Paul under the bus, but he will listen to Eddie, so who knows?

No wonder Gene spoke at Chuck Berry's funeral.

Yeah Gene, that may have something do with, Paul, Tommy & Eric not being paid!

Solo wise, ACE was best with Frehley’s Comet….especially live while Billy Ward was on drums! Saw them with Y&T and it was an incredible night!! Even the club tour w/Scarlet was good in the mid nineties…maybe someone should offer him a drink and a bump before going on??!!
@chrisdher654 ай бұрын
Chuck berry invented that while Gene was trying to make it with cheerleaders

With how much a KISS concert must cost I can believe that Gene pockets more money because it's not wrapped up in paying for all the expenses of a Broadway Level staged show and what it takes to pull it off.
