ACE AF1 REVIEW VIDEO HERE: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6POlKGYeLGsd5Y CORRECTION: I was notified that I read my tape measure wrong (thank you Anthony De Rosa), and listed the height as 2.18" instead of the correct 2.125" measurement. From bottom of baseplate to middle of axle, the height would be 53.975mm instead of the 55.372mm I measured (a difference of 1.397mm). Albeit a tape measure is not the most accurate tool to use when doing a measurement such as this. EDIT 4/23: I misread Ace's bushing description. The top bushing is 91a, while the bottom bushing is 86a. The pivot cup is 96a, NOT the bushings.

The rethreading nut is no joke! They saved a pair of hollow Indys. The axle rethreader on my skate tool, and the local shop workers couldn’t even save my mushed axle. My buddy came through with his red rethreading nut and saved them :) Anyways dude keep killing it. Awesome review and skating!

Kinda messed up they couldn't sell you a retreading tool or just let you you one they probably had shits like 8 bucks for separate die cast to attach to regular skate tool don't ever waste money on those 20$ plus ones with it installed already those will fall out and fail

I just got my 55 classic yesterday and I compared em with my AF1 66. 1. classic bottom bushings is 1mm++ shorter than af1's 2. the hanger geometry between both is totally different. It makes the classic wheelbase shorter for about 0.25++ inches. (easier to manual with classic) (af1 WB now almost the same as indy) 3. Af1 top bushings is more tapered shape to avoid top washer's bite.

af1 66 with 57mm wheels and 1/8 riser was wheelbite central. I was really surprised how soft the bushings are and I ride pretty loose trucks. They turn great but I don't want to run 1/4 risers so it's either cut wheel wells or run hard bushings.
@theoriginalrabbithole2 жыл бұрын
I just cut wheel wells. It's takes a half hour with a file, sander and spray paint.

@anthonyderosa95693 жыл бұрын
Great vid bro. Just noticing when you were measuring the height of the trucks you measured 2 1/8 inches with the tape. When converting to mm on your calculator the number in decimal form should have been 2.125 not 2.18. Just nerding out 😂 Keep it up great videos ... subbed!

Darn, I should've been more careful! Thanks for the heads up. Height would be 53.975mm instead of the 55.372mm I measured, a difference of 1.397mm.

I would also suggest measuring on both sides because sometimes the hangers don’t sit horizontally.
@drygulch10003 жыл бұрын
When measuring wheelbase it would be more accurate to measure between axles on both sides of the board and take an average, this will account for any tilt in hanger because of the bushings. Thanks for all the info!!! Great vid!!!

2 1/8 = 2.125 not 2.18! Using that formula you would have a height of 53.975 mm! So that's how you achieve this measurement! If you ever get confused, 1/8 you would divide 1÷8= .125 . You can use that with any fraction! Like 7/8 , 7÷8= .875 Enjoy!

question I'm skating independent forged hollow 149 on an 8.25 deck and I like 149 because they are wider do I get the model 55 ace trucks for my 8.25 deck or the 44?
@TheLivingDeadFormats3 жыл бұрын
I just researched this myself actually, you'll need the 44's for 8.1 - 8.3 size decks. 55's are for 8.4 - 8.5 decks.
@blueskynoise21773 жыл бұрын
You could go either way. I like 149s on 8.25 as well, but i really like the new 44s. Somehow i feel like i should’ve gone with 55 but they’re fine
@reup40233 жыл бұрын
If you want to keep the 8.5” axle size you’ll want the new AF1 55 which is 8.5”. Axle sizes have changed with the AF1 lineup compared to Classic, check the Ace website. They’re one of few brands with a 8.3” axle but that’s only with the Classic 44.
@blackbartsimps0n5603 жыл бұрын
don't forget you can use speedring to get them a lil bit wider so if you get the 55's use like two or three speedrings on the inside of the axle and you should get them to spread to 8.5 (Same as indy 149)

The standard axlenuts are doomed to fail if they're a softer metal ( which they most likely are, maybe grade 3?) then the axle ( chromoly is the standard, harder & stronger then grade 1-5 on a Rockwell scale). They might hold up a few times bur are definitely a clever novelty. A regular die( like in a skate tool) is a high grade heat treated alloy that NEEDS to be stronger then the metal it's working against or the rethreader will get destroyed ( they are fragile).
@johncoleman73082 жыл бұрын
These axle nuts are supposedly hardened steel. I don’t own them, so I can’t confirm or deny. But if you look on the site, they claim to be.
@mr.e85612 жыл бұрын
@@johncoleman7308 The chromoly truck axles are equal to grade 8 steel. The axle nuts aren't grade 8. Maybe the rethreading nuts, but not the axle nuts.
@johncoleman73082 жыл бұрын
@@mr.e8561 you clearly know more about the specifics of the properties of these metals than I do. I just went to the site and read a description. Makes me wonder why they market it that way when it already comes with a rethreading die. Maybe the nuts are harder than traditional nuts, but if they are softer than the axle it doesn’t really matter.
@davidleeashkenazi89923 жыл бұрын
They look better manufactured than Indy's, more refined and slick while Indy's are a bit rough on the edges - maybe I'll finally give them their *turn ;) But I do wish they were a bit lighter, I think that they are almost the heaviest trucks on the market :-/ which is a shame for big tech guys (unlike me lol).
