Moog Matriarch soundscape - What we wish for

It was a little challenging to pull the Matriarch out and do this. First because I haven't played it in a long time, and second because it's only 4 paraphonic voices (and doing a soundscape like that is hard, for me at least). I had a track that 'fits' from a few years ago, but I guess I'm just a bit rusty with this thing. Anyway, here it is.

I love the Matriarch sound. I know it’s limited in many ways, but it does lend itself to expandability for modular explorers (I haven’t gone that route, but I do have the moog sound studio). It’s actually the synth that opened my mind to how patching works. And (despite the opinions of many others) I am very fond of the color choices which make it instantly recognizable; the front panel is segmented beautifully for my adhd mind. If only those rear patch points were on top! 😅

I love the color scheme. The dark version looks boring to me. I'd take this version every time. Oh yeah, those rear patch points are awful! I can't see them! Matriarch is great. I'm fine with not patching though, it sounds good as is!

I have the dark version 😆 and use it for the modular connection but there is a lot of capability there it’s a very interesting synth

I’ve got the dark. I use mine with the Mother 32, DFAM and now the Spectravox (which is fab).

It really is amazing. I love the filters and the paraphonic nature. The Pro-2 is similar, but I think this has it beat for the filters.

@MIDERA my favorite thing about this synth is how far you can push it into the distortion without any extra effect pedals. And the character of this distortion is very pleasing.

@InnerPeaceSounds oh yeah, me too. I love the delay too. It’s such a unique synth. I would have said there was nothing like it, but the pro-2 is for sure the same uniqueness and territory. Like, in a way, I feel the matriarch may have grabbed some concepts from the pro-2 (I think the pro-2 came out first). But the matriarch is a little more striking and a little more “immediate” Depending on whether you use the patching of course.

I only saw a few posts about the Model 15 from synthtopia… is it also a paraphonic 4 oscillator synth? I mean, I don’t see them overlapping with who will buy one or the other, but if there’s no copyright infringement or IP stealing… I guess I don’t know. Can’t blame someone for wanting something for a good price. I haven’t watched the Starsky comparison video, but what I heard from comments was that they sounded pretty similar, with the matriarch just having a better interface, which makes sense given its size difference. But also, being big can be a downside.

I like the Matriarch, but I don't think I've ever called it a top 3 synth of mine. I put the Prophet 10, Virus TI, and SY77 up there. The Spectralis 2 is as well, but it's more of a groovebox - but it is my favorite device.

@@MIDERA There's a Prophet 5 desktop version (expandable to 10) for sale around here... Would that be an option or do you think the keyboard version is the way to go... if the way is to go of course... ;-)

@@wouterwiels4593I’m kind of a fool and just love keyboard versions. I bought a JD990 to replace my 800, but the interface is so much nicer. Now the P10 desktop is very similar, but more compact. For me, I like the overall experience of the keyboard version. However, paired with a Virus Kb Keybed….. that would be amazing too. Don’t think I could give up the keyboard version myself. But my studio is just stuffed with keyboards now :/

@@Ikon_SoundI will need to pull out the 3rd wave again and see what I think. It really sounds delicious. I will admit that only using it and not having bought it, it’s easier for me to discard it (ie, to tell myself I don’t need it), but frankly, it’s an amazing synth. Great UI too. The screen is nice as well. After having played the SX-240 though, I can’t get it out of my head how amazing that filter was. Sigh………..
