Chubzdoomer There wasn't anything called "rock" back then, they had different personalities and different tastes of music, that's part of the reason of why i love the medieval era.

I'm not sure about the veracity of this but, i heard a medieval recreationist say that "hurdy gurdy" is supposed to mean "rock your bottom", therefore Chubzdoomer's comment wouldn't actually be far from the truth

So it's like an accordian? NO MAN it's got, like, 7 strings on it. So it's like a violin then? NO, none of that bow bullshit. This has got a fucked up wheel spinning in it and you spin it with a crank on the bottom. You're drunk. No such instrument could be built. Yes I am. And I built it yesterday.

Maybe I'll hit the string with some wooden blocks. Yeah, that's go good. I'll put it in the church so we don't have to hear my shrew of a wife." "Tobias, you're drunk. You can't just put a wheel on some strings. I'll sound terrible, and the church services are far too long already." "I can't? I already did it."

So? the Israelites walked around this really large city playing their music and the "walls came tumbling down", so bad music or poor walls? Now the FBI played the same sad music night and day in Waco, Texas and they gave up without a fight. So bad music or poor ears? Music just how powerful is it? Your birthday without a song? Christmas without a Merry Christmas song, lets see...a dog barking is for your birthday and the wind blowing is for Christmas and a mother looking at her new born but never thinking about a lullaby. Maybe the world would be better without some bands and or some singers or some instruments, however you decide is how you should live in your cave on your mountain all by your lonesome self, because I like music the noise and the instruments noise, you know...the music.

@@JanWollring Honestly, the horo is harder to recognise. Medieval instruments have very rough and rich sound. The melodies then were different too. May be people didn't bathe every day, but had a lot of imagination:)

The Hurdy Gurdy is over a thousand years old. It is called zanfona in Gallician Portuguese. It figured prominently in the middle ages & was a main instrument of the Troubadours. It can be found all over Europe in folk traditions from Poland & Hungary to France & Spain. Check out videos on KZbin by German Diaz, Gregory Jolivet & Efren Lopez.
