Wow, it looks like Acer knows how to market an appealing Chromebook with touchscreen and backlit keys and fanless build. A clean machine!

These Chromebooks look more and more appealing for lightweight to medium use, I've even heard of System Administrators using these machines for remoting into servers. That being said $400 is about the limit of what I would spend on one.

Yeah and lower end windows laptops have always been pretty problematic. I think if you're looking to spend less than $500, chromos is the way to go.

One nice thing about Chrome OS is if you pair an Android phone with a chromebook you can set to unlock when the phone is near and unlocked. Nice on an inexpensive CB that lacks a fingerprint reader.

The lack of a micro SD slot makes this a no go for me. Important to add capability and take off old items from main drive.

Not having a micro SD card on a device like this is mine of inexcusable. I was interested in showing a friend until that came up. He's in need of a device in this price range.

This is a bit strange but I seen reviewers review the new 2022 514 and it must be the higher end model I'm not sure but it has the companio 1380 I believe I'm not sure that number but it's in a thousands and it does have a bunch of ports there's the full HD version and then there's the 2K version screen I do have to say if you're on a budget full HD versions more than enough however if you do have a little more money to spend get the 2K version because it's the same screen as the Acer spin 713 which I personally have 2021 model and I love it the screen I noticed you didn't mention much about the speakers if you could have put like that audio test or play a video or something The main thing people care about a Chromebook says is performance battery life screen quality and speakers at least that's what I look for when I was shopping for one and yes the bezels on the bottom chin is pretty chunky but it's look it looks good

Great. I don't think you mentioned stylus support, so can I assume this doesn't come USI enabled? Sad seeing it's touch enabled... Thanks!

No stylus support as it's not a 2-in-1. It would be nice though as the display does go flat.

I work for an architecture firm and we use a remote desktop application to work on our work computers from home. I have a pretty capable desktop computer at home, but if I were looking for a portable laptop to work remotely via that remote desktop application, would this be able to handle that?
@diezgp
@diezgp 2 жыл бұрын
You need to check if the remote desktop application has Chrome OS or Android support. If it's TeamViewer, i think it's possible.
@LonSeidman
@LonSeidman 2 жыл бұрын
Without knowing what you're using for remote desktop it's hard to say. If it's something like VNC you could install a linux client for that. But you might find a windows machine easier to deal with for that project especially if you're using Microsoft's RDP and need a VPN to log into first.

"The Intel processor is more robust than the ARM..." Huh? "Robust"? What the hell does that mean? 😜
@cobaltblue5523
@cobaltblue5523 2 жыл бұрын
In most cases it just more powerful but then it would require well I recommend putting in a fan with these are fanless and I believe it'd be better with a the Linux applications and all that The difference is really that the companio the media took processes are our arm based so they just like as they stayed in the video they work better with the Play store apps and that's good and it's a much more power efficient processor so it doesn't just drain the battery like crazy for example I had I'm not certain on this but I did have my oh there you go The Lenovo 314 Chromebook it's on Best buy You can look it up which had a media think 8183 and the performance on that was is pretty solid basic tasks easy browsing media consumption maybe light gaming so pretty good and if you get on sale it's really good for the price I got it touch screen model for I think 180 so really damn good anyways I also tested out the Acer's in no no sorry the Acer 315 which had an Intel Celeron n4020 both of those Chromebooks had 4 gigabytes of RAM so they're same performance and the battery life on it on that and the Lenovo was actually really good like I was surprised 10 to 12 hours That's with me you know putting almost max volume KZbin I having like some taps open and I just had the KZbin in the background well I did other stuff 1080p video running and it was really good battery life just ridiculous anyways I'm not sure that that was the Intel Celeron processor so I'm not I don't think that's ARM-based but it was a very low-powered chip so that's why I could last so damn long these are both full HD screens Lenovo was a 14-inch one The Acer was a 15.6 inch screen now they were both IPS touch screens okay now the reason why I did that was to establish kind of like a baseline for low-powered chips so for the the media tech processors they're all ARM-based so they do not require a fan they have passive cooling so is honestly if you're looking for a Chromebook chances are you're not a big like 4k or 8k video or photo editor If so I'd actually just recommend getting a MacBook Air and one chip m1 chip or higher it's just better for that right but if you're looking for a basic needs browsing media consumption you know Facebook I don't know messaging email all that crap Chromebooks are very just intuitive fast and they're great The reason why I got it was mainly because of the battery life now I got those two Chromebooks to establish like what a low-end one could do and it was more than enough for me cuz I was going to manage some Facebook business pages my businesses and manage them with the you know like Excel sheets so like what was it Google Google spreadsheets Google sheets that's what it's called Google notes Google sheets Google docs all that crap anyway I saved up and I got the Acer spin 713-2021 model and this was the highest spec Chromebook at the time for the lowest price for example It has 8 GB of RAM It has an Intel i5 11th Gen processor it has 256 NVMe SSD storage no other Chromebook has NBA or SSD they're all EMCC so slow and it had just a bunch of ton of good specs to thunderbolt port 4 the USB-C things it also had a 2K screen with a gorilla Glass antimicrobial with a touchscreen and I do have to say the best part about this Chromebook is the screen absolutely stunning Love it what else I mean it had all the ports aging my full HDMI USB c thunderbolt USB type a headphone jack micro SD card slot so all that good stuff back like keyboard 4 is it full SRGB color crap damn it I don't know Gambit there you go no gamut never mind stupid I'm using a voice text so the point of that just establish the specs of that high in Chromebook and that one was $6.99 MSRP however I bought it for on sale it was 529 so it was the best Chromebook to get for those specs no other Chromebook has better specs and if it does that's like you know the i7 or i9 maybe and maybe more RAM but those are over $1,000 and it's a Chromebook so sorry but an overpowered phone book is still a Chromebook so yeah anyways with that chip it does have fans and it's very powerful it's very fast very snappy all that good stuff however the battery was advertised on every other platform they said oh you're going to get about 10 hours battery life makes usage I call absolute b******* on that mixed usage because as I said I usually do basic things KZbin email Gmail sorry Google sheets Google docs couple chrome tabs open and that thing clearly lasted me 6 hours around 6 hours and I had to turn off the Bluetooth I had to turn off the phone hub I had to turn off all other things on the Chromebook that was it so I just had a Wi-Fi on and oh phone hub is where it connects to your phone and then you can unlock it with your phone and have like a cross messaging and all that crap so they advertised around 10 hours or 12 hours whatever and my other Chromebooks which were the Acer 315 easily got 10 hours with me pushing it and that was I think it was 3:30 on regular price but on sale I got it for 220 the Lenovo is about 300 I think 300 or 3 something I got it on sale for 179 so keep in mind though that Lenovo was the only arm processor I believe so if I did game on it the the battery would last a little bit longer than the the Intel processors especially the 713 expensive one I don't know why I can't really tell you that but it just doesn't handle those simple programs I don't understand that it makes us sense to me but maybe it's something else but yeah our processes are typically better for because the Play store is designed around phones you know that's phone specific so if you put place the play store onto a like you know based which is supposed to be what do they call it x86 or 64-bit I don't know all the the crap but it doesn't run as it's supposed to you know it's not as smooth it's not efficient it was never built for that or built around that so when he goes into detail about that I mean he doesn't but this is what kind of means
