Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 Review - Reasonably Priced Laptop

I was always against Chromebooks in the past, mainly because they were underpowered and cheaply made but I'm a convert today. I just picked up the Acer Spin 714 and it's an impressive device in every way.

I'm thinking of making the plunge myself. I've only used Windows since day one, 3.1 I think, yeah I'm that old, LOL! But I'm getting fed up with Microsoft and Windows, I'm ready.

I have the hp Dragonfly Pro, and it is the best chromebook there is (imo). I went from Samsung Book Flex windows, which I still have over to the chromebook, and I much prefer the chromebook.

​@@tonycollazorappo Chromebooks aren't what they used to be. Chromebooks have evolved tremendously. I recommend the Samsung chromebook 13.3 4k. It's a great laptop.

"Old school office editing" I'm a little shocked Lon XD I guess it is old school since most folks are always online with everything nowadays. That Chromebook will be perfect with that i3 and reasonable RAM and Storage

Shocked at how good the webcam looks, usually they are utter crap. Honestly for the money this is terrific. If only they could make it look less cheap.

Thanks for the review on the Chromebook Plus, next will they have the Chromebook II standard, followed by the Chromebook SE standard, and then the ultra powerful Chromebook SE/30 standard....? :). j/k

I really like Chromebooks for how efficient they are, the ones that I have are absolute bargains, but there's just one deal breaker that forces me to choose other laptops, I have to do video encoding using Linux (Crostini), unfortunately there's no way to use hardware encoding on Crostini. Also I think none of the Chromebooks has AV1 encoding.

Next step is Chromebook Pro for actual professional work like photo and video editing and 3d design or coding. They'd have to work with software companies before making something like that but i bet it'd be great.

Not all CX34 are equipped the same. Can get confusing. I3, I5 or I7. Some are touch screen, not all. Some come with Docking Station, not all. Some are backlit, not all.

I believe Acer is the only manufacturer that includes a padded sleeve with some of their mid-to-upper end Chromebooks.

Will these Chromebook Plus devices of today, keep that Chromebook Pkus ststus throughout its entire lifespan of software updates? Have all the extra Chromebook Plus frstures?

Unless you need particular software that is not available on Chrome OS or Android, yes. Google's office suite is very good.

Yes, it was on sale not long after it was released in October. The Costco variant is on sale right now for $349 and I feel it's more desirable because it has a more traditional silver/gray case with black keys on the keyboard instead of the light gray keys on this unit. It's much easier to see the black keys when you need to enable the backlighting.

Lon, is call of duty mobile available on the google play store on this chromebook in this video? I have the samsung chromebook with its 10th gen Intel i5 cpu with 256gb storage and 4k super amoled display, when I go on google and search for call of duty mobile for my chromebook it says it's not compatible. I even tried sideloading call of duty mobile for my chromebook but it keeps on cashing. I wonder if the Intel cpu's will updated to play call of duty mobile on older chromebooks. I wish steam was supported on 10th gen intel cpu's whenever google decides to roll out over the air updates to play steam games on chromebooks. I wanna be able to play steam games from my chromebook 4k display. I got the samsung chromebook specifically because it has a 4k display with support for android apps, I wish the display was 1,000 nits. I have the 2022 razer blade 15 because it has a 4k display with a 3080 ti gpu 16gb vram version. I'm not really a fan of windows 11. The only thing that I like about about windows 11 is support for android apps. I prefer using windows xp and windows 7 over windows. Windows 10 was decent except you need to have a microsoft account to use windows 10. I never liked windows 8.1 and I still don't like windows 11. I prefer chrome os and android. I get more ads on windows 11 and that's even without even when I'm not using android apps. I never got ads on chrome os and android unless I'm using a 3rd party app from the google play store or when I sideload android apps which is funny and weird considering google is an ad company and microsoft is not an ad company. There are certain apps that I still use that are only available for windows so that's why I still use windows. I'm not a fan of mac os, I tried mac os and I always get confused on how to navigate and use the operating system.

There's one of two reasons as to why you've been disappointed. One is because you aren't taking the time to research different chromebooks or two. You aren't spending your money wisely. Just as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for." Here's a list of some of the best chromebooks out starting with the best first, 1. HP dragonfly pro. 2. Asus c434. 3. Acer 514. 4. Asus c433. 5. Samsung 13.3 4k.
