I bought a previous gen 514 on your recommendation (core i3/aluminum case) in 2020 back when they were battling HP at the $399 price point. It was an excellent choice and has held up admirably, although it does run a bit warm. Loved it so much I picked up a lesser model Acer refurb for knockaround duty- 3 years of hard use on that one and the screen is going now.

That would be great and I'm just waiting for more Chromebooks to come out! because you can't find any decent ones everybody's always out of stock, but the market is flooded with PCs everywhere that you can buy for cheap, but Chromebooks are gold or something can't find them and they cost too much when you do. When I go to Costco they only have one Chromebook on sale and it's always crappy bottom of the line not worth the stuff it is made out of, but they have a shitload of PCs with the full range bottom to top. What's up with that? PCs are passay they are old as fuck, obsolete old technology that doesn't work past the 1990s

On a tight budget, I'm using the 512gb version from Costco instead of buying a new Macbook for software development on Linux with git management. Put it into developer mode, and install Linux, Debian runs in terminal in a Crostini container. In ChromeOS file manager make a git folder and share it with Linux. At terminal bash prompt change directories under $> mnd/chromeos/Myfiles/Downloads/git. Now you have a $1250 Macbook for $250.

I currently have 2 Chromebooks, one Acer 714 and one Asus Flexbook Chromebook Plus, and both support hdmi out with USB-C. This is ok, but I use a 3440x1440 external monitor so I only get 60Hz which is flickery for me. So I bought a usb-c to displayport adapter, and on the Acer it works great. getting 100Hz refreshrate, while with the Asus.... it locks the computer or reboots it trying to use it. Another thing is that both have usb-c charging, but for some reason, if I try the Acer charger on the Asus it does not work, meanwhile the Asus charger works on the Acer. Also if I use the HDMI adapter on the Asus, and try to use the charger port on the adapter, it locks up the Asus.... so Asus is clearly not using a standard interface for their USB-C. I have also tried with an older Acer and that worked great too with both adapters (HDMI and Displayport)

I have a 513 spin and can't figure out how to read an SD card on it. I plugged in a card reader and while I would guess, the info should pop up in the files, it doesn't show up anywhere that I can find. Any thoughts? It did warn me to be careful to (something ??? the message disappeared in a couple of seconds and I didn't catch the whole message) :( . . . when I pulled out the card reader and card. I know you're talking about the 514 but I can't find any other, better place to ask about it on YT. If you can't help, it's fine. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks.
@AndrewTSq3 ай бұрын
Hi, the warning message you got is probably the one that you get when you have not unmounted the sd-card before ejecting it. It can sometimes destroy the filesystem if you are unlucky. In the Files application, there is a "arrow up" next to the sdcard that you have to click on before removing the card (or power off the computer before removing it works also). So there is a little chance your sdcard is corrupt. Only way to know is to test it in another sdcard reader and see if it works. If the sdcard is working in another reader, there might be some fault with your sdcard reader in the chromebook.

not all external media are plug n play. Computer might still be accessing it at the time it is yanked out of port. It's a good idea to see if both computer, external media and OS support plug n play in specifications for any brand and its operating system.

I recently purchased an Acer Chromebook for school and the entire month I had it, which is a month, it worked perfectly. But, now, like, a week into July, it starts to glitch? My desktop started glitching. Cause, you know how if you're using your desktop, it automatically works and you can get out of the whole desktop thing? Mine is stuck and glitching my screen. If I try to use my laptop and open the new tab it glitches. Also, even when my screen has nothing open, it still glitches and wont get out of desktop, my desktop button has also broken off and i think it might be the source of the problem.And right now, I'm somewhere they are unable for me to take it to them to fix it. A different continent. Can anybody help?? Like tell me what to do?? 😭

Another cheap plastic Chromebook. Would be nice if this channel made something other than repetitive review videos of cookie cutter Chromebooks. Show what Chrome OS can actually do. Show Crostini. Show the current state of Android app integration. Show what it's like to use Steam and the various ways to install it. Show why people should consider Chrome OS rather than giving more light to the endless piles of Chromebook e-waste churned out.

That would be nice but that's not what this channel is about There are other KZbin channels that are into what you're talking about just do a search, this channel only does quickie reviews now not like before, so all you're going to see is a Chromebook unboxed waved around the room a bunch of times shook here and there to see how if feels and smells and well that's it for this video. I have a Acer 714 and it is very luxery feeling compared to my Asus Flexpad 5 Chromebook Plus. The 714 is fully aluminium, has a gorilla glass touchpad (so smooth!) and mechanical feeling backlit keys. The Chassi does not bend at all. The Acer.. feels like a plastic piece of s. And for some reason it is much heavier than the Acer, even if its plastic. If I hold the Asus with one hand, you can see the whole chasie flex lol.
