Thank you so much. I certainly will try to keep up the good work. The cold days are holding me back a bit, though!

I've only got 2 Acers. The one I keep in a Japanese pot is kept indoors and still had its leaves. The larger one which is about 18 inches is still in its pot and that's currently outside with no leaves. I've heard that if you cover the pots with bubble wrap, this will protect the roots and help stop the soil from going completly solid. I haven't tried it myself yet, but temps got down to about -5 in Glasgow, so I'll have to do it at some point. Cheers buddy 👍🏻

This year I built some boxes to keep them together and next to my house. I was thinking of filling the spaces between the pots with a load of coconut coir for extra protection. I've seen videos where nurseries take pots off their benches and put them onto the ground so the cold winds don't get underneath the pots, and keeping them huddled together also helps to protect them. Hope your Acers do well. Cheers.

Great update Bill, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. No problems with me from the technical side. All seemed ok with the microphone. I love your biggest and oldest katsura. Did you buy that as garden centre stock or from a bonsai specific place? You've done a great job with it.

I honestly can't remember where I bought it but I can tell you it was either from a garden centre, supermarket or diy store and probably didn't cost me much at all, just like the others in this video. They usually arrive in the shops early May. You asked for an update video, so I made it with you in mind. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.

I would definitely make a feature of the dead part of the Katsura. I would use some lime sulphur to whiten it up even though lime sulphur is seldom used on deciduous trees. The internodal length on acers must be kept as short as possible for ramification, as you are well aware.

White parts do look good on some trees. Not sure if you could make a jin on one of those 🤔

I've tried to tidy up the scar in the past hoping it would callus over, but that didn't happen. I suppose one either loves it or hates it. I agree with you about the internodal length. Cheers.

yeah the old katsura has some great character. I must have well over a 100 bonsai/pre- bonsai including many maples but know katsura!

I like the orange dream too. Quite similar in some ways. I think I want more of them! lol

Since its fall this is probably normal sometimes Japanese maple leaves go brown rather than fall color /dry on the tree due to weather conditions it even happens on mature trees and all trees aren’t equal even if they are the same variety just leave it be it’ll be fine come next spring

@isaacsteinsgarden I'm afraid it's too late to leave it alone. I've hacked it already! 🪓
