Acer's 317 Touch Screen Chromebook: With the 1st 17.3" screen

I purchased one secondhand about 1.5 month ago so i could take my Acer Chromebook 315 15 inch with me and use the Acer Chromebook 17.3 inch at home. Love the screensize and the backlit keyboard. It also has a MicroSD card slot which the 15 inch did not have. Love it!

I just purchased mine last week, I was perfectly fine until I opened up Zoom and Google Duo, I have a nice lighted office and I was still dark. I brightened up the screen, but it did not affect or change the video quality. The adaptive setting could not be changed, so it kept going in and out. I tried to angle the light to make it lighter, but after trying it with the two apps I mentioned, and my video editing software WeVideo, I was still not happy. It's going back to the store. I have been a Chromebook user since 2014 and while this one is nice, I don't want to sacrifice the video quality - going back to my old HP for now. At least until someone else comes out with a 17-inch laptop Chromebook. :-)

First of all, thanks for checking out my little corner of the interwebs. And thanks for your support. Every sub helps. Now, personally, it's not my cup of Java because that's a big flipping screen for a chromebook. I don't mind it on my gaming laptop because, well, gaming. Lol! But as far as the camera. I think I had decent lighting because of the lights in my studio. Not everyone has that. So I can see your point. As far as editing, I haven't found any software that I like for Chrome OS. But that's just me. I just use my PC for that. I feel like it was well built but just too big for me. Thanks again for your comment. Have an awesome week. Cheers!

It isn't the only largest chromebook ever made. I just got the ASUS 17.3 Chromebook for $150 last week during Best Buy's deal of the day. The Regular price is $379.

Try the ASUS 17.3 chromebook for an alternative. It has a large great screen. It's on Best Buy and Walmart. It's got full HD and long lasting battery 17 hrs. It isn't touch screen though. But I couldn't argue with the price I paid for it, only $150 when it was on sale.

What camera and app are you using to film this video? I noticed that each time you reach for your phone, your camera zooms in or out. Thanks in advance!

That particular camera is the SONY FDR-AX43 4K HANDYCAM and the Imaging Edge app. I also use a much cheaper camera for different angled shots. But good eye. I do control that camera from my phone (until I can find a camera person for future content. 😁)

the only reason I'd want this is for music - it opens "all the way" so you could use it on a music stand vertically. The only reason I wouldn't want it is the speakers. Still, it's this or a 1500 17" android tablet, lol.

I just ordered this version. It's currently on sale at Best buy. You can also connect external BT speakers or wired speakers to the chromebook for better sound.

Since the screen is only 1080p,I'm going to say, it downgrades it. The picture quality is pretty nice. There's no glare seeing as the screen has no glossy finish. The sound could be better for my liking even with the upward firing speakers.

It's a huge chromebook only. Lol! I personally didn't see much logic in a chromebook so big, but since I've had it, I've gotten more than enough inquiries to make it relevant.

I checked into this, and for its size, I was disappointed twice. One, the speakers on something that size have got to have better sound, and there REALLY should have been a 4k option for this.

The thing about this is that in the end its still a chromebook. And am affordable one at that. So I'm thinking they wanted to got the touch screen and convenience of usability that is the basis for chromebooks. It has more power, for the brand and it is, of course, large. 4K couldn't happen at this price point, for something so new. At least that's what I'm thinking. 😏

It's not really a bother for me. 1080p is satisfactory enough for me and most people. I cant even use it in 4K if I wanted to because most internet connections wherever I'm at can't handle it. And you can always connect an external BT speakers or wired speakers for better sound. Just the fact that it has a very large touch screen and has 8gb of ram is a win in my book.

speakers? With all the great headphones or earbuds with bluetooth? Who even needs speakers that? I don't think I have even used my TV speakers in the last 8 years. Much better sound through headphones you can hear it in most of the house like you are still in the same room and the neighbors, or heck, even your wife in the next room trying to quietly paint doesn't even know that you are absolutely blasting a Hollywood block buster? Or at the library or on a plane...listening to some good old rock n roll without disturbing anyone? The best. Get yourself some nice, over-ear headphones for home tv watching and in-ear ones for on the go. Best investment for media ever.
