The best part about this is, that you can actually install screens that were never meant to be in the chasis. It's how I uprgraded my display on a Legion 5 Pro after I shattered my display. Previous display was an 165Hz IPS 16" QHD, upgraded it to a 240Hz MiniLED 16" QHD with a 1000nits of brightness. I've documented the process on the legion subreddit for anyone interested and so have other people with similar models that utilize the 16" screen format including legion 7's and other asus machines.

The biggest issue I've had when I had to replace a screen last year, is that I ended up having to purchase multiple screens. So many stores online list screens by the part number of the actual panel, then actually send a cheep knock off, which if just wanting to view the image is fine but colours and brightness are nothing like the original. The issue is that so many stores were listing the original then sending a lower quality part, rather than just stating its a "compatible alternative" for example.

As fellow technician, I'll give one suggestion: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!! I had customers trying to change their screens or whatever, and their computers won't turn on, because of motherboard damage or another component. When I asked that did they disconnect the battery and they say "No, I watch a "X" KZbin video that I follow to replace my screen" or something like that. Instead of replacing one thing, it had to change two or more, depending of the damage.

I think it was a good thing that a 1080p screen was installed. After all, with a 1440p screen, the requirements in games have gone up significantly and the customer could be dissatisfied. Even if he reduced the resolution in the game to 1080p, the screen would not be as sharp because it would not be a native resolution.
@GSBarlevАй бұрын
Most 1440p (and 4k) screens have a 1080p display mode, so I'm not sure that's correct about the sharpness. There's also FSR and DLSS which do really good upscaling for very little performance penalty.
@LordTrashcanRulezАй бұрын
That's only a problem with desktops, where buying a 34 inch 4k monitor and using 1080p on it would make it look way worse than buying a 23 inch 1080p monitor. Here, every panel you get is the same, so they can use 1440p on the desktop and 1080p in games.
@dareczek2974Ай бұрын

The idea is to have 1440p on the desktop and 1080 in games. It would look completely fine operating at a lower res because the size is exactly the same as the old one.

Happy new year! BTW, never travel on a plane with an Omen laptop... Bad things may happen. 😂

Last night my upgrade parts for my laptop arrived. 1tb Ssd and 16Gb ram. Hope you're also having a great new year.

I do miss the days of screwed in screens. repairs just aren't what they used to be. This video did bring up some nostalgia though as I used to have one of the Gateway FX laptops. They LOVED to overheat if used for any length of time.

O the memories doing hardware support. I never liked laptop and def never attempted tablet or phone more than screen or batt replace. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

The move to eDP panels has made these kinds of upgrades so much easier, with LVDS they just did whatever they felt like with the pinout and it was a nightmare.
