Acer Swift 3 Power Jack Repair (Broken DC Charge Port)

Thank you so much for this! Fun fact: the Acer swift 3 flagship model (2018 iirc) doesn't have the jack soldered on. It sits in a slot in the same place as the one shown in the video is soldered, and is plugged into the board. Definitely a pleasant surprise there. Thank you again for making this video. I fixed my charging issue by just taking the back off, locting the charging port, and then pushing down on the little metal spring tab that makes connection with the outside of the charging pin. See the metal spring tab at 6:15 of the video. It's just below the 0455 numbers on the charging port. I just pushed down on that spring tab a little bit - essentially bending it a bit into the charging port and now it makes consistent contact with the pin when I plug in my my charger. Vucumpra had the same comment below. Simple fix!

I had the same problem with my Acer Swift 1, after watching this video and others, I opened the back of the laptop to have a look and I didn't fancy taking the components out in case I broke something but looking at the port block I could see what the problem was. I could see the contact and the centre pin looked fine but the spring tabs were not making decent contact with the jack plug so I bent them in such a way that the contact would be better and it works, it's not perfect but way better than it was because before any slight movement would make me loose my sweet spot, now I can move it about a bit before it loses good contact. I know that it's a bit of a redneck fix but I'm better at mechanical things.

i had same issue with power jack i got this problem after i use dublicate charger 2 different ones.now i tried usb c charger but it start same problem beep sound of connect and disconnect any soultion?or do i have to buy new laptop?

I wouldn't say it's more common than any other laptop. Another thing is I believe Acer is selling a lot of these models. I will see more in for repair sometimes when a popular model is released.

@@pomeroypowerjackrepair I was initially planning to get the Thinkpad E14 G2, but im worried now after seeing some reddit post that the usb-c charging port dies within a year. Is the usb-c port dying a common Thinkpad issue?

@@garrtrigger yes, I'd be much more worried about that because if the Acer jack breaks it can easily be fixed. If the USB c breaks it's near impossible to fix.

@@garrtrigger they're just delicate when using them as a power source that you are constantly plugging and unplugging. They are also very hard to fix.

What specific acer swift model did you use in the video? I think we almost have the same model. Maybe this DC power jack I ordered would still work.

For those without soldering skills this laptop can be charged via its USB C port provided you have a 65W charger. The regular charging jack with its barrel connector is so flimsy it will break again. So USB C is the way to go. Great and informative video though.

Actually you need to check which (exact) model number you are using. Not all of them can be charged by USB C as the port is data transfer only.

Sad that there is no way to replace this port on USB-C one(just charging), doesnt seem to be enough space seeing that it's part of the board. Would've been a lot better to use it and USB-C chargers than Acer's crap.

Yes, the usb c can fail too and they are much more difficult to fix.
