I literally fail to see how a baby swan was considered an "ugly duckling" in the story; it is TOO CUTE
@marioncapriotti15145 ай бұрын
I think it's because adult birds are SO beautiful, the babies are often considered "so ugly, they're cute." Scrawny little necks, big swollen eyes that aren't open yet, goofy big feet and scruffy feathers -- they sure don't start out as beautiful as they will grow up to be.
@jelly.41254 ай бұрын
I believe the story is about being judged by the standards of others that someone cannot live up to. the swan was considered ugly because it was being judged by the standards of ducks. the swan learned in the end that it was never ugly- just different! using a creature as beautiful as a swan for this story emphasizes the lesson that anyone will feel defective if they're placed in the wrong environment and judged by the wrong standards. I apologize for responding so late to your initial comment, this was just one of my favorite stories growing up and I like talking about it!

So Cute awww. But that would actually be quite normal in waterfowl. While swans and most types of ducks choose a specific partner to mate with ducks and swans live in flocks and never leave thier flockmates behind. They always stay in the same pond close by. I've even seen different types and species of ducks form friendships between eachother and I've even seen little ducks befriend huge Canada geese and be welcome in thier flock. I'm sure this swan and duck will be best friends swimming and flying together for life, so sweet awww

Man imagine thinking an infinite hub of the planet's shared information has nothing educational to provide though, that'll never not be wild to me. It's the same as real life, it's not like everything you can experience is equally new and wholesome there either, totally depends on what you're doing.

Kid learns to call a cygnet a ‘swanling’. Parents: dammit, that’s not a word! Kid: oblivious forever to the dumbing down of society
