well the rank you get depends on what you placed the previous season. I know this was over a year ago, and a lot has probably change, but my friend and I did our placement matches, and won 7 out of the 10. Because he placed plat 3 last season, he got placed in plat 3 this seasons. Because I ended in silver 1 last season, I got placed in gold 3. I got placed higher because I was playing with and against golds and plats. Also, the amount of elo you gain or loose depends on the amount of games you play. Because I played less games than my friends, I gain and lose about 80 elo per match while they gain or lose about 30 elo.

The anxiety mixed in with wondering who will best the other is a great feeling. It comes down to strategy and teamwork at the end of the day, it's what changes the tides of the round. One of the most satisfying matches where you don't mind losing, but also really appreciate the win.

@Ben Clarkson I agree, and that is how the game is supposed to be played, but I think it would be interesting to see this because they could stratigically deny information from their enemies, which would cause them to be more careful about their positioning and callouts, and with realistic settings, it would definitely help the immersion factor (I realize that's not the main point of Siege, but I have never seen it before, and I think they could pull it off, while making it entertaining)

If anyone is wondering the new soft rank reset takes into consideration your last season's rank. So if you were at bronze last season your MMR starts at bronze level which is very low. Before the soft reset everyone started at gold 4 MMR. This makes it better for gold players because all the new or really bad player wink wink won't be playing at gold level which is good. Good players that are trying to go plat and diamond would get stuck at gold ranks if they were solo queing because there were a lot of carried noobs playing on their teams. This is not good for the carried noobs either because they go up against way better players that will easily stomp them and they won't learn anything.

you are almost right. IIRC it resets you to the mmr in the middle between gold IV (2500) and what you had last season. But to a maximum of plat 3 (so if you were diamond last season it still only resets you to the middle between gold IV and plat 3)

soooooooo .... what happend with the ranks? i looked up everyones MMR from last season and found out, that everyone except Geoff and Jeremy had 1 abandoned match where they left before the match was over (Maybe a disconnect). This lead to the two having 36 mmr more than the others in total. In this Season the soft mmr reset was introduced which lets you start your placement matches in the middle between gold IV and where you were placed last season. Jeremy and Geoff therefore started out with a little bit more mmr than the rest. Since they placed so high up in copper 1 (1691/1700 with 1700 being the border to bronze IV) the two just about reached bronze IV since they had their small mmr bonus from last season. So they are still at about the same mmr (+- 16) but they got "different" ranks).

It then considers the mmr of your opponents, the number of points you get, the number of games you have played, and how many wins and losses. Rank is not based on how it expects you to play compared to how you actually play. Siege uses Microsoft's trueskill system.

Your teammates have MMR as well and combined, you have a team MMR that ideally should be roughly equivalent to your opponents' team MMR. Now, the player with the highest MMR on a team should perform the best. If the lowest individual MMR player performs amazing and does as well as the highest MMR player, the low MMR player should be given more points if the system is taking individual performance into account. Essentially in this case, the game may have expected Geoff and Jeremy to be the bottom of the team, but they performed much better than expected, resulting in higher MMR gains. I think the point of the "expectation" is that given the MMRs in a game, you are expected to perform a certain way if the MMR if accurate.

This is why they placed Copper: Probably said in the comments below somewhere, but it still deserves a mention. Up until this season, Siege's rank (ELO) has reset entirely every season. Meaning that no matter where you usually place on the board (copper all the way up to diamond) you will have the ELO of a high silver/low gold player at the start of your placements. As you progress, your ELO will go up or down from there based on if you win or lose. However, with the most recent season that has all changed. The way it works now is the placement matches retain your ELO from the previous season. So, despite saying 'Unranked', the guys had the ELO of Copper players even before their first placement. And because they started from the bottom rather than the middle, their improvements didn't seem to have as much of an effect. Some originally thought this change was for the worse, but it stops lower skilled players getting matched up against gods and getting destroyed. Ultimately, this is a welcomed change. Just was bad timing for the type of video AH is trying to make. I feel bad for them, though. As you can tell their morale took a huge hit since they didn't know this.

"This guy's got G-Sync, HDR, 65 inch, 144 Hz!" No resolution, huh? The size is mostly arbitrary when it comes to level of detail. HDR describes the color space of the pixels. The frequency says how many times a second a pixel refreshes and can update. G-Sync... is only good if your computer is not strong enough to provide a stable 144 frames per second image, which shouldn't be much of a selling point for what sounds like an all-in-one. But how many pixels are there? What does it help anyone that it's a huge screen that refreshes quickly if it's just 720p? Alfredo says he didn't know something like that existed, but he's using 144Hz screens regularly. It shouldn't be mind blowing.

For those of you that are confused about their rank being different/low it has changed so that it’s only a soft reset of elo each season. The average between your old rank and a mid point is taken and that number will be the elo you start with. Geoff and Trevor placed higher because they had a higher rank last season.

I was expecting Bronze 4, they are clearly that skill level on a good day but that end result confused me as much as Alfredo. Did they change something with ranking? Also if these guys actually made a full on attempt at becoming good at this game, like dedicated time, practice and constantly playing with this group and learning they could 100% get to Gold or something decent. They have the ability still which is cool.
