Epson Printheads have a great image at being well made but we have no say over the manufacturing process. What we can do is provide our clients with better ways to take care of their Printheads, to prevent Printhead clogging. What is Printhead clogging and what causes it? Here are the biggest problems that our technicians find when servicing an Epson XP600 Printhead:
1) The Printhead is clogged
2) The Dampers are empty
3) There is no electrical discharge
So why do Printheads become clogged? There are a few causes. The ink cap gets worn out, so that the runner that seals the Printhead, is not doing its job. The dampers have filters, and these filters get clogged up, which in turn clogs up the Printhead. The ink settles in the tank and creates a sludge, this then goes through the ink pipes into the dampers, the dampers then get blocked, and some of the sludge enters the Printhead.
So what can AM.CO.ZA do about Printhead clogging?
The first obvious step is to introduce auto cleaning features on the printers. Then for the Printheads, AM.CO.ZA has three preventative options available.
The first is the specialised silicone rubber sealer. The silicone seal surrounds the circuit board and separates it from the Printhead nozzle. This was designed so that if ink gets on the circuit board, it protects it. But it does not stop ink from flowing through the terminals via the belt. To combat this, we can either use a Printhead rubber seal, which separates the belt from ink flowing into the terminal. This method is not fool proof though.
Then we have the XP600 pre-sealed Printhead. This Printhead already has the cables connected. The silicone protects all the electrical parts from ink getting on it. This Printhead has the advantage of having the cables already connected, so you can't make an error of not matching the tracks correctly. For extra protection, you can add the first edition rubber seal to separate the metal casing of the Printhead from creating an electrical discharge since the Printhead can't couch the metal casing.
We have noticed that some opt for refurbished Printheads. While we don't recommend this, we do offer rubber casings which is the perfect choice to protect the Printhead, since once a printhead is refurbished, the Printhead may not be correctly sealed.
