They are, however, or were the backbone of the strategic bomber formations of the usaaf along with the b24 and they were in the top 5 of causing the most damage and losses suffered

You should be sideslipping the bombers on your return to base. B-29 doesnt do it well, but it helps slow down. BV-238 sideslips like a chad though. Also to help land the B-29 you can set up custom camera controls. I use a modifier key and numpad, change it to or from relative control, and reduce sensitivity. This lets you adjust the third person view to be more in line with the fuselage, allowing for much better control flying at treetop level and getting gentle landing angles. Those same camera controls can let you dogfight with less parallax on other planes as well.

If you want to do carpet bombing correctly, needs to be a tighter formation. And only the lead bomber need to be in the sight. All other drop on leaders drop. Should try that and see how it works.
